Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Houston Rockets vs Golden State Warriors

The Houston Rockets will visit Oracle Arena in Oakland, California, to take on the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night at   10:15 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Golden State has recovered from losing two straight games in which to win their second straight versus the Phoenix Suns on the road in their last time out as the Warriors were able to go up by 20 at the half while shooting over 50% for the game both from the field as well as from three-point range while holding Phoenix to only 43% shooting on the night.

The Houston Rockets enter this matchup on a 5 game winning streak as they were able to pick up yet another home victory versus a struggling Memphis Grizzlies team as James Harden continued his stellar streak of play in going for 43 points on the night on 8-19 shooting along with 6 of 12 shooting from long range in addition to pulling down 10 rebounds in addition to having 13 assists for the Rockets. The under has been the play in four the last five meetings almost these two teams at Oracle Arena.

Houston Rockets's Latest Performance :

While James Harden continues to tear it up for the Houston Rockets on the offensive end,  in their last outing vs the Memphis Grizzlies, Harden committed nine turnovers on the night while finishing with 43 points, 10 rebounds, along with 13 assists in the victory. Nonetheless, Mike D’Antoni  found reason to continue to give praise to the shooting guard. ”I don’t know how you get any better than what he’s playing,” D’Antoni said. ”Defensively, too. He comes up with steals, triple-doubles like it’s nothing. So yeah, he’s playing at a different level.” Clint Capela also racked up yet another Double-Double in scoring 19 points along with pulling down 13 rebounds while Joe Greene also contributed 18 points to the winning effort for Houston.

Defensively the  Rockets continued their stellar defensive play as they have allowed opponents to score less than 110 points in their last five games, overall. Kyle Anderson along with Mike Conley finished with 20 and 19 points, respectively, for the struggling Grizzlies while Jamychal Green went 3-3 from long-range while ending with 18 points for Memphis as well. Nonetheless, the Grizzlies were not able to hit much of anything long range as they only went 6-25 for the night while Houston connected on the 11 3-point attempts.

Nonetheless, the Rockets will be looking to embark upon a short, two game West Coast swing versus the Warriors while ending with the Portland Trail Blazers. They certainly seek to begin their trip on a positive note by having a repeat  performance of a blowout victory over a Steph Curry less Golden State Warriors team in November.

Golden State Warriors's Latest Performance :

The Warriors are seemingly on a roll again as they have won their last two games, as stated, to where the offense has averaged over 120 points per game. On the other hand, their defense has also stepped up during this time as they are allowing opponents the score only an average of 107 points during this time. In their last outing versus the Phoenix Suns, Golden State put in a dominating performance as they shot over 50% from the field as well as from three-point range as Steph Curry scored 34 points to lead the Warriors while Kevin Durant added 25 points as the Warriors beat the Suns for the 17th straight time including 7 straight at Talking Stick Resort Arena.  Furthermore, curry went 5-9 from three-point range as Golden State ended with 14 three-pointers, total in the win.”Pretty much the whole second quarter and beyond, we were just disciplined defensively and played with a purpose on offense,” Curry said. ”Created good shots. It was a great night.”

On the defensive end, the Warriors held the Suns to only 43% shooting while connecting on 9 of 26 3-point attempts as DeAndre Ayton led with 25 points along with 10 rebounds while TJ Warren had 24 points. Devin Booker also chipped in 20 points for the Suns in the loss. Nonetheless, the Warriors will certainly be looking to continue their recent momentum on both sides of the court when they matchup versus a Houston Rockets team that has been on a tear lately both at home and on the road in winning two of their last three, overall.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will certainly be an interesting game as both teams will be looking to continue their recent success moving forward. On one hand, Houston has won two of their last three road games while Golden State has been successful in three of their last five home games at Oracle Arena. Of course, Houston will most certainly want to ensure that they bring the focus on the defensive end as Golden State has scored 115 points or more in four of their last six games, overall. The other hand, the Houston Rockets are only allowing opponents to score 103 points per game during their current five-game winning streak.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:   Golden State Warriors

My reason for the pick :

Look for this to be a highly competitive, back and forth game throughout to where both teams will certainly be giving their all in which to pick up a much-needed victory. However, I will back Golden State in this contest due to to the fact that they will be looking to atone  for a blowout loss to the Houston Rockets in their last meeting to where Steph Curry did not play. It is for this reason that one should certainly expect Golden State to get some critical buckets in the second half in which two separate themselves from the visiting Rockets while also picking up the all-important victory in the meantime.

Totals Selection: Pick: Over

My reason for the prediction :

The Houston Rockets can be given much credit for the way in which they have played defense recently; However, look for the over to strong playing this instance versus Golden State as I certainly see Golden State pouring it on early and often on a Houston team that will certainly put up some points as well throughout the contest. With that being the case, look for Golden State to out-shoot the  visitors over time while  also ensuring that the total does indeed surpass its set limit for this matchup.
