Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Boston Celtics vs Miami Heat
The Miami Heat return home to the American Airlines Arena for their 2nd consecutive home game where they will welcome in the Boston Celtics in an Eastern Conference matchup. The Miami Heat have played well enough over the last few weeks to put themselves back in the early playoff picture while the Boston Celtics once again look like one of the top teams in the conference.
Boston Celtics's Latest Performance :
The Boston Celtics are one of the favorites to win the Eastern Conference as they have one of the deepest lineups in the NBA and after a slow start to the season, Brad Stevens finally has his team playing at a high level and back in contention. The Celtics were able to kick this current week off with a blowout win over the Brooklyn Nets at home 116-95. Sure the Celtics have all-stars on their team but what makes this team so appealing is their depth and we saw that on display against the Nets as 8 different guys touched double-digits in the scoring department. Sensational PG Kyrie Irving is the top Celtic on the season as he averages 22.9 PPG and 6.6 APG, and we saw that on display to start the week off as he dropped 17 points and dished out 6 assists in the win. 2nd-year pro Jayson Tatum has continued his growth as a player and he currently sits 2nd on the team in PPG with 16.1 and we saw how truly versatile he is in their win against Brooklyn as the former Duke product dropped 16 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, and dished out 4 assists. The Celtics have one of the best bench units in the NBA as they have been bringing former all-star Gordon Heyward off the bench as well as PG Terry Rozier who can very well start on most the other NBA teams, the duo was able to combine for 22 points against the Nets.
Miami Heat's Latest Performance :
The Miami Heat may still have a losing record but that is still good for 6th place in the Eastern Conference as the conference as a whole is experiencing a down year without a LeBron James led team. The Heat enter this matchup in the midst of a two-game losing streak with their most recent coming against the top team in the Western Conference, the Denver Nuggets. Despite the Heat dropping this game 103-99 they were able to show how much scoring depth they have as 8 different scorers contributed at least 10 points. Dion Waiters has only been back for 2 games and he has already made his impact felt as he led the Heat in scoring against the Nuggets with 15 points while also contributing 4 assists. The leading scorer on the season for the Heat is SG Josh Richardson as he averages 18.1 PPG, and he had a nice all-around game against the Nuggets with 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Starting center Hassan Whiteside is a double-double machine for Miami and he did just that in their last outing as he recorded 12 points and 11 assists in the loss, Whiteside averages a double-double on the season with 12.8 PPG and 12.6 RPG. The Heat expect more production of Tyler Johnson and Rodney McGruder as both players average over 10+ PPG but they only combined for 9 points against the Nuggets.

Against The Spread Selection: Boston Celtics*
My reason for the pick :
The Boston Celtics are as good as anyone in the NBA especially when they are clicking on all cylinders as they have a top-notch defense and all-stars who can score at will. The Miami Heat put together a nice stretch of games to get themselves back in the playoff picture but they have been slumping over the past few games as they got beat pretty bad by the Atlanta Hawks and then went home and lost to the Nuggets. The Heat have a terrible offense especially with Goran Dragic still out and I think the Boston 3rd ranked defense ratches up the pressure in this one and gives their offense more opportunities to separate this game. The Celtics are the healthier team and are slowy getting back on pace and that shows in this one as they win on the road.
