Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Chicago Bulls vs Portland Trailblazers

The Chicago Bulls will visit the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon, to battle the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night at 10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Blazers come into this matchup winners of three of their last four games along with two straight after picking up a home win versus the New York Knicks in their last outing as the home team was able to shoot 47% from the floor while also connecting with 11 3-pointers on the night. Josef Nurkic led the team with 20 points on the night while Damian Lillard along with CJ McCollum chipped in 17 points apiece in the victory.

The Chicago Bulls lost their fourth straight game as they came up on the losing end versus the Brooklyn Nets in their last time out as their struggling offense woke up a bit in shooting 47% from the floor; However, allowed a tad over 50% shooting for Brooklyn in this matchup as D’Angelo Russell torched the team for six 3-pointers while also ending the game with 28 points along with dishing out five assists as the Bulls defense  have allowed 112 points or more in their last three outings. Unfortunately, the Bulls are only 1-4 against the spread in the last 5 meetings versus the Portland Trail Blazers.

Chicago Bulls's Latest Performance :

In all, the Bulls are losers of seven of their last 10 games, overall, as they enter this game losers of four straight, as pointed out, after they fell to the Brooklyn Nets by 17 points in their last outing as they not only allowed the visitors to shoot 51% from the floor.  Nonetheless, Brooklyn was also able to make good on 16 3-pointers on the night led by D’Angelo Russell who went 6-14 for the night with 28 points along with five assists. The Bulls, on the other hand, shot a respectable 47% from the floor while connecting 7 of 18 3-point attempts as Bobby Portis went 3-4 in this area while ending with 17 points on the night while Zach LaVine also went 2-2 from behind the arc while leading the team with 27 points in the loss. Kris Dunn also chipped in six points along with seven assists for Chicago in defeat.

”They made shots,” Bulls coach Jim Boylen said. ”They got to where they wanted to get to. And they made shots. We can’t give up 117 at home.” Of course, one can certainly feel the frustration in Coach Boylan’s comments as this game came directly after the Bulls allowed in 119 points in their prior outing to the Indiana Pacers. Nonetheless, the Bulls will take to the road for a five-game road trip beginning with a matchup vs a Portland Trail Blazers as they hope to find success on the defensive end in this matchup as they have allowed just 93 points in their last three road games, overall.

Portland Trailblazers's Latest Performance :

The Portland offense has certainly not been overly spectacular while the team has won four of their last five games. On the other hand, their defense, which was atrocious only weeks ago, has certainly stiffened up  recently in allowing just 101 points doing their current streak. In the last outing versus the New York Knicks, the defense for Portland allowed just 101 points to the visitors while the Knicks shot just 40% from the floor while connecting on 7 of 23 3-point attempts on the night.

Enes Kanter came out of his funk in which to lead the team with 18 points along with pulling out 14 rebounds while Emmanuel Mudiay went 7-17 from the floor while ending with 17 points along with dishing out seven assists for New York. On the other hand, the Portland Trail Blazers were led by Nurkic with 20 points on the night, as stated, while Lillard and McCollum also chipped in 17 points apiece for a Portland team that also received a lift off the bench from Seth Curry along with Jake Layman who combined for 23 points for the contest.

Portland will continue its five-game homestand with game 4 versus the Chicago Bulls in the hopes that this defensive intensity will have a carryover effect as the Chicago Bulls have truly been awful on the offensive end all season. And while their defense has been the tip of the spear in ensuring that the team remains competitive on a nightly basis, even they have regressed lately as they are allowing an average of 116 points per game in the last three outings.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will be an interesting matchup amongst these two teams as the Chicago Bulls will look to string together some victories on the road, where they have play slightly better than at home recently, as they seek to make some headway versus a resurgent Portland defense that has truly been locking down opponents in recent games. Of course, the Portland offense will also be looking to increase their overall production in this matchup versus the Bulls as Chicago has certainly not been as efficient on the defensive end in recent outings.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Portland Trail Blazers

My reason for the pick :

The Portland Trail Blazers are winners of four of their last six home games and will certainly extend their streak in this matchup versus a Chicago team that is beginning to struggle on the defensive end of the ball, as well, lately, as stated. With that being said, look for Portland’s offense to light up just a bit more in this contest while the defense will remain consistent in preventing quality looks to a Chicago Bulls team that, aside from Lavine, does not possess the type of offensive output that is consistent, in which to continuously stay competitive with in this league.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

In all, one should certainly look for Chicago to have a much better defensive showing than Illustrated in their last outing versus the Brooklyn Nets. I am sure that they received a mouthful from their coach after their horrible stretch of games, recently, and will certainly get after it on this end of the floor versus the Portland Trail Blazers. With that being the case, Portland has played much better on the defensive end lately and will likely continue these trends versus an anemic Chicago offense that does not possess any type of consistent scoring from any player side from Zach LaVine, as pointed out.
