Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Cleveland Cavaliers vs New Orleans Pelicans
The Cleveland Cavaliers will travel to Smoothie King arena in New Orleans, Louisiana, to face the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. After an extended losing streak, the New Orleans Pelicans have certainly found a bit of confidence and momentum as they are winners of four of their last six games, overall, as they were able to pick up the victory versus the,,,,,well, the Cleveland Cavaliers in their last outing as they were able to pick up a 35 point road victory as they shot well over 50% both from the floor as well as from the field while being led by Jrue Holiday along with Julius Randle with 22 points apiece in the much-needed victory. On the other hand, Anthony Davis also chipped in 20 points while also pulling down 10 rebounds in the blowout victory.
On the other hand, in this matchup, the Cleveland Cavaliers shot just 40% from the floor while making good on 12 3-pointers as Jordan Clarkson win 3-6 from long range while going 8-23 from the floor in leading the team with 23 points while Collin Sexton also chipped in 15 points in defeat for the Cavaliers.
The Cavaliers have not been successful against the spread at Smoothie King Arena as well as they are winless in their last four meetings. On the other hand, the over has been the play in the last seven meetings amongst these two teams in New Orleans.
Cleveland Cavaliers's Latest Performance :
As stated, Cleveland shot just 41% from the floor in their last loss versus the Pelicans on January 5th as Jordan Clarkson led the team with 23 points while Collin Sexton along with Jalen Jones chipping in 15 points apiece on a night where Cleveland could not get anything going on the offensive end throughout the contest. On the other hand the team allowed New Orleans to catch fire from the perimeter as they not only shot a whopping 58% from the floor but were responsible for 14 3-pointers on the night as the Pelicans possessed seven double-digit scorers on the night including three 20-point scorers in Jrue holiday, Julius Randle, along with Anthony Davis, as stated.
In all, there were not many positives to which Cleveland could take from this contest at its conclusion. It is for this reason that they will look to write this game off, altogether, while playing much better in what will be a rematch on Wednesday night versus the New Orleans Pelicans. Of course, Cleveland will look to rely on their leading scorer for the season in Jordan Clarkston for this matchup in which to lead the offensive attack; However, the 23 points scored by Clarkston versus the Pelicans was the first outing to where he eclipsed the 20-point mark in his last six outings. Also, Rodney Hood is out for the Cavaliers in this contest as he is battling an Achilles injury.
So, the Cavaliers will certainly be short-handed and will certainly need to step up on both ends of the floor in which to compensate for the lost production. As stated, Cleveland has not played well on the road recently as they covered the spread in 11 of their last 19 road games, overall.
New Orleans Pelicans's Latest Performance :
The New Orleans Pelicans have regained their offensive touch as they have erected themselves from a rough patch to where their offense could not gain any type of consistency, in which to average 125 points during their recent six-game stretch. And despite allowing 126 points to the Brooklyn Nets in a road loss recently, the defense for New Orleans is allowing teams that averaged just 102 points per game during this time. They will certainly look to continue their dominance over the Cleveland Cavaliers in this matchup at home, where they are winners of three of their last four games, overall.
Anthony Davis has been a huge catalyst to the recent success for the New Orleans Pelicans as he is averaging 32 points per game while has recorded a double-double in four of the last six outings for the Pelicans, overall. On the other hand, Julius Randle has been a centerpiece for their success as well as he has scored 20 points in five of the last six games for the Pelicans while recording double doubles in four of these contests as well. Finally, Jrue Holiday has stepped up as well for the home team as he has scored 20 points in all but two of the last six games for the Pelicans while racking up an average of 8 assists per outing.
They will certainly look to continue this success in this matchup vs a Cleveland team that simply cannot get things right from an offensive standpoint. Nonetheless, they will be looking to put in a much better competitive matchup vs a New Orleans team that certainly looked as though they had their number in their last outing only days ago.
How Cleveland Cavaliers & New Orleans Pelicans Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Cleveland is 18 – 22 against the spread while the OU is 19 – 21
New Orleans is 18 – 23 against the spread while the OU is 22 – 19
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This will certainly be an interesting matchup between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the New Orleans Pelicans as the Pelicans will be looking to expand their momentum in which to pick up their second win over the Cavaliers in four days. One should certainly look for the Cavaliers to perform much better in this contest than what they illustrated at Quicken Loans Arena only a few days ago. On the other hand, also look for the Pelicans to look to get their offenses kick-started early and often versus a Cleveland defense that has allowed 117 points or more in four their last five games, overall.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: New Orleans Pelicans
My reason for the pick :
I will back New Orleans in this contest as Cleveland has shown no semblance of playing any type of defense lately. Combine this with the fact that the Pelicans are continuing to heat up from the perimeter, yet again, at a pivotal point in the season, and one will certainly conclude that the Pelicans are indeed the strong play in which to pick up a convincing victory, once again, versus a struggling Cleveland Cavaliers squad that is not play well on the road at all lately.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over
My reason for the prediction :
Again, with the way in which the Cavaliers have played defense lately, look for the New Orleans Pelicans to have yet another productive night on the offensive end. And while the Pelicans have certainly picked up some wins and momentum due to their play recently, they have also been known to give up points to opponents in bunches as well in 2018, despite not allowing their last two opponents to eclipse the 100-point mark. In all, look for the over to be the strong play in this matchup as the Pelicans will look to light up the score board early versus a Cleveland team that will indeed struggle for yet another contest on Wednesday night.
