Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Minnesota Timberwolves vs Phoenix Suns
The Phoenix Suns are set to return home to Talking Stick Resort Arena after playing 4 straight games on the road and they will welcome in the Minnesota Timberwolves in a Western Conference clash, the opening tipoff is slated for 9:00 PM. Phoenix is in the middle of rebuilding their franchise which has led to some unfavorable results while Minnesota is trying to find an identity as they have not shown playoff promise but have future all-stars on their roster.
Minnesota Timberwolves's Latest Performance :
Minnesota is a young team who is playing under a young coach but they have lacked an identity as an organization as they have the all-stars necessary to compete in the West but also have looked to rebuild around what they have. The Wolves are currently out of the playoff picture in the Western Conference but they are looking to build on a recent win over the Phoenix Suns as they hit a last second shot to win 118-116. Karl-Anthony Towns has been playing lights out for Minnesota and his game against Phoenix is just another example of his production as he recorded a double-double with 30 points and 12 rebounds. Towns is in prime position to make the all-star game as the 3rd-year pro out of Kentucky is averaging 22.4 PPG and 12.2 RPG. Minnesota has also revitalized the career of Derrick Rose as he is contention for an all-star game bid as he is averaging 19.3 PPG and 4.8 APG off the bench, and he was able to capitalize on his hot streak with 31 points and a game-winner against Phoenix. The Timberwolves have been trying to untap the potential of Andrew Wiggins as he has shown the necessary skill set to be an all-star but he has struggled to find consistency this season and his latest outing was just another example of that as he only recorded 10 points and 6 rebounds. The Timberwolves are playing without a key piece as Robert Covington has been out with an ankle injury which is a sizable blow to this team as he averages 14.5 PPG and 5.7 RPG.
Phoenix Suns's Latest Performance :
The Phoenix Suns have not made the playoffs since the 2009-2010 season which has prompted a complete franchise rebuild and we have seen that in full effect this season as the Suns currently only have 11 wins through the first 48 games of the season. The Suns enter this matchup on a 4-game losing streak with their most recent loss coming on the road against the Minnesota Timberwolves 118-116. 3rd-year pro Devin Booker looks to be the main building block for the Suns as he is averaging 24.5 PPG and 7 APG, and we saw him have a solid outing against the Timberwolves as he pitched in 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. The Suns were without their #1 pick of the 2018 draft as Deandre Ayton has been nursing an injury which is a big blow considering the former Arizona product is in contention for ROY as he averages 16.4 PPG and 10.6 RPG. T.J Warren was able to have a solid outing for the Suns as he contributed a team-high 21 points, but this should come to the surprise of no fan as the 25-year-old is quietly having a good season as he is averaging 18.3 PPG. The bench was able to have a solid outing in the Timberwolves game as they gave the Suns a total of 56 points. Kelly Obrue was acquired in the Trevor Ariza trade and he looks like he can be apart of the future plans for the Suns as his 1/20 game against Minnesota was an example of his skill set as he contributed 18 points and 8 rebounds off the bench.

My reason for the pick :
It is hard for me to back a team like the Phoenix Suns especially after watching their performance throughout the season and now add in the fact that Deandre Ayton is out with an ankle injury which makes things even worse for the worst team in the West. These two teams just saw each other a few days back and while we can expect Karl-Anthony Towns to post yet another double-double we should expect to see Andrew Wiggins have a much better showing. The difference in this one also rest with Derrick Rose putting up insane numbers over the recent weeks as he looks like his former MVP self. Phoenix has the tank rolling as they would like to get a guy like Zion Williamson or RJ Barrett while Minnesota is still in contention for the 8 seed in the West. Minnesota wins and covers on the road.
