Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Charlotte Hornets vs Memphis Grizzlies
The Memphis Grizzlies are set to return to the FedEx Forum for their 2nd consecutive home game where they will play host to the Charlotte Hornets in a cross-conference clash, the opening tipoff is slated for 8:00 PM. Memphis has been as bad as anyone in the NBA as of recent as they have lost 9 of their last 10 games while Charlotte is fighting the .500 mark but still sit within the top 8 in the Eastern Conference.
Charlotte Hornets's Latest Performance :
The Charlotte Hornets have failed to find their identity over the last few years as they have an all-star in Kemba Walker but have also paid big money to veterans who have not exceeded expectations in their time in Charlotte. The Hornets are currently within the top 8 spots of the Eastern Conference with a losing record but they showed the separation between them and the top portion of the conference in their recent blowout loss against the Indiana Pacers where they lost 120-95. Kemba Walker has played well in his contract year as he is averaging 25 PPG and 5.6 APG, and he was able to match that stat line against the Pacers as the 7th-year pro recorded 23 points and 7 assists. The Hornets acquired the big contract of Bismack Biyombo this past offseason and the results have not been as expected as he is only averaging 4.6 PPG and 5 RPG, but he was able to have a solid outing against the Pacers as he recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. The Hornets have lacked rebounding ever since Cody Zeller went out of the lineup with an injury as the 5th-year pro is averaging 6.2 RPG and 9.3 PPG. Although the Hornets lost against the Pacers they were happy to see the production out of their previous two 1st-round picks as Malik Monk was able to contribute 11 points and 3 rebounds while Miles Bridges pitched in 8 points and 3 rebounds. The duo has not gotten off to a great start during the early portion of their Charlotte career as Bridges is averaging 6.8 PPG and 3.6 RPG while Monk is averaging 10.2 PPG off the bench.
Memphis Grizzlies 's Latest Performance :
Memphis has struggled more than any other team in the NBA over the past few weeks as they have lost 9 of their last 10 games and now sit 1 spot above last place in the Western Conference. Memphis comes into this game looking to break a 6-game losing streak as they most recently lost at home against the New Orleans Pelicans 105-85. Marc Gasol was able to have a big game against the Pelicans as he contributed 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists, Gasol is averaging 15.3 PPG and 8.5 RPG. Veteran Mike Conley has been the face of this organization over the last few years and he was able to have a solid game himself as he pitched in 20 points and 8 assists in the loss, Conley is the leading scorer for the Grizzlies as he is averaging 19.8 PPG and 6.1 APG. The duo of Gasol and Conley were responsible for 49% of Memphis points against New Orleans but management recently announced that they are accepting trade offers for the veterans which means they are looking to blow this team up. This would make a guy like rookie Jarren Jackson Jr. the main building block which wouldn’t be a bad thing as the former Michigan State product is having a solid season as he averages 13.5 PPG and 4.7 RPG. The Grizzlies have also dealt with injury issues this season as Dillon Brooks is out for the season while Kyle Anderson is expected to miss 2-4 weeks with an ankle injury. The one positive for the Grizzlies has been their stingy defense as they currently rank 2nd in the NBA in team defense.

My reason for the pick :
How can anyone trust the Memphis Grizzlies after the effort they have given over the last 2 weeks and to make things worse they have now stated that they are looking to trade 2 of their best players in Conley and Gasol. Charlotte has been nothing special this season but Kemba Walker is playing for a contract next season and has been playing lights out this season. Charlotte has also been a much better scoring team than the Grizzlies this season as Memphis is barely scoring 100 PPG. Memphis has dealt with injuries as of recent and I think the deeper Charlotte bench will get to the Grizzlies who have already played twice this week. Take the Hornets to win on the road.
