Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Houston Rockets vs New York Knicks
The New York Knicks are set to return home to Madison Square Garden for their 2nd consecutive home game where they will play host to the Houston Rockets in a cross-conference clash, the opening tipoff is slated for 7:30 PM. Houston has stayed afloat in the Western Conference without 2 all-stars as they are sitting 5th in the standings while the Knicks are in contention for the 2019 #1 pick as they have dropped 6 consecutive games.
Houston Rockets's Latest Performance :
The Houston Rockets have remained relevant in the Western Conference despite losing two stars to injuries as they have battled a .500 record over the last few weeks. The Rockets enter this game 5-5 over their last 10 games and their lack of star power showed against the Philadelphia 76ers on 1/21 as they were blown out 121-93. SG James Harden looks to be the early favorite for MVP but his monster outing against the 76ers wasn’t enough as the 9th year pro recorded 37 points and 6 rebounds. Harden enters this game as the leading scorer in the NBA as he is averaging 35.7 PPG but he has also been effective in other categories as he is averaging 8.3 APG and 6.4 RPG. Starting PG Austin Rivers has played well ever since he came over to the Rockets this season as he is averaging 11.7 PPG, but he was kept silent against the 76ers as he failed to record a point in over 27 minutes of playing time. Veteran Gerald Green stepped up off the bench for the Rockets and delivered 18 points which is well above his season average of 9.4 PPG. The Rockets were able to pick up Kenneth Faried after the Nets brought out his contract and he played well during his 1st game as a Rocket as he contributed 13 points and 6 rebounds off the bench. The Rockets should once again be a threat in the Western Conference once they receive back the services of Chris Paul (15.6 PPG & 8 APG) as well as Clint Capela (17.6 PPG & 12.6 RPG) but for the meantime, the Rockets will need other guys to step up.
New York Knicks's Latest Performance :
The New York Knicks have put on the tank mode as they are now starting to look forward towards the upcoming NBA Draft and obtaining a generational talent like Zion Williamson or R.J. Barrett. The Knicks enter this game on a 6-game losing streak with their most recent loss coming on MLK Day against the Oklahoma City Thunder 127-109. 5th-year pro Tim Hardaway Jr. was able to have a solid outing for the Knicks in this game as he recorded 23 points which is slightly above his team-high 19.6 PPG. Former 1st round pick Emmanuel Mudday has been playing well ever since he came over to NY as he is averaging 14.7 PPG, and he was able to touch that mark against the Knicks with a 14-point performance. The Knicks have started to allow their youth movement to take over but they would like to see more consistent production out of their 2018 1st round pick in Kevin Knox as the former Kentucky star only recorded 8 points in their last outing, Knox is averaging 12.3 PPG. The Knicks have been happy with the production of undrafted free agent Alonzo Trier as he has already signed a deal to keep him in NY for years to come and he was effective off the bench against OKC as he contributed 16 points, 8 assists, and 6 rebounds. The Knicks look to be playing the injury to Kristapas Prozingis safe as he looks to be on for the remainder of the year but he will be a big get when he returns healthy as he is averaging 17.8 PPG and 7.1 RPG over his 3 seasons.

Against The Spread Selection: Houston Rockets -7
My reason for the pick :
Houston has looked average over the last 2 weeks but can you really expect the Knicks to keep a game close after they have lost 9 of their last 10 games. Houston has the far superior James Harden and unfortaunley I don’t see anyone on the Knicks who will be able to match Harden’s production yet alone guard the MVP candidate. The Knicks currently rank in the bottom 3 in the NBA in team defense which could spell trouble against a team like Houston who lives and dies but the 3. Houston should play inspired after being blown out on national TV Monday and what better way than responding with a big-time win over the lowly New York Knicks. Take Houston to cover the spread and win on the road.
