Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Orlando Magic vs Brooklyn Nets

The Brooklyn Nets are set to return home to the Barclays Center for their 2nd consecutive home game where they will take on the Orlando Magic in an Eastern Conference clash, the opening tipoff is slated for 7:30 PM. Brooklyn has been as hot as any team in the NBA as they have won 8 of their last 10 games which has them at 6th in the Eastern Conference while Orlando has struggled as expected as they have been on the losing end for 7 of their last 10 games.

Orlando Magic's Latest Performance :

The Orlando Magic have struggled to find an identity over the last few years as they have stacked up on forwards and have paid big money to expiring veterans, and this has led this organization to having multiple losing seasons and this year looks to be no different. The Magic are currently looking to flip the script on a few bad weeks as they enter this game losing 7 of their last 10 games, but Orlando was able to win on Monday against the rebuilding Atlanta Hawks 122-103. Center Nikola Vucevic looks like an all-star for the Magic and his outing against the Hawks is just another example of his abilities as he contributed a double-double with 29 points and 14 rebounds, Vucevic is the Magic’s leading scorer with 20.5 PPG as well as the leading rebounder with 12 RPG. Joining Vucevic in the productive column was 26-year-old Evan Fournier as he was able to record 29 points himself as well as contributing 7 assists, Fournier has not had as good as a year as expected as he is only averaging 15.2 PPG and shooting .33% from 3. Veteran Terrance Ross has been the spark plug for Orlando off the bench this season as he is averaging 14 PPG, and his outing against the Hawks was another example of that as he contributed 16 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds. The Magic would like to find themselves a future PG as they currently don’t have much production from that position as they start 31-year-old D.J. Augustin who is only averaging 11.6 PPG.

Brooklyn Nets's Latest Performance :

The Brooklyn Nets were supposed to be in the rebuilding stage as they have cap space and 1st round picks over the next few years but this team has won 8 of their last 10 games which puts them in 6th place of the Eastern Conference with a record over .500. The Nets come into this game on a 4-game winning streak with their most recent win coming against the Sacramento Kings 123-94. D’Angelo Russell has been on a tear as of recent and this was just another example of that as he recorded 31 points and 8 assists against the Kings, Russell is having a stellar season for the Nets as he enters this game averaging 19.2 PPG and 6.4 APG. Joining Russell in the backcourt is SG Joe Harris who is one of the best spot-up shooters in the NBA and we saw his scoring abilities on display in their latest game as he pitched in 19 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, Harris is averaging 13.5 PPG while shooting close to 48% from 3. 2nd-year pro Jarrett Allen has started to assert himself as one of the top big men in the Eastern Conference as he comes into this game averaging 11.7 PPG and 8.8 RPG, Allen was able to contribute 8 points and 12 rebounds against the Kings. Brooklyn was able to receive some solid games from their reserves as well as Ed Davis recorded 6 points and 16 rebounds while 6th man of the year candidate Spencer Dinwiddie had 11 points and 6 assists. Dinwiddie has developed into one of the top bench pieces in all of the NBA as the 4th year pro out of Colorado is averaging 17 PPG and 5.1 APG.

Against The Spread Selection: Brooklyn Nets -5

My reason for the pick :

The Brooklyn Nets are as hot as any team in basketball at the moment and I like them to cover this small spread at home against a struggling Orland Magic team who they just beat this past weekend. D’Angelo Russell is playing at a high level for the Nets as of recent and I like for him to continue his dominance in this one as the Magic simply don’t have the star power in their backcourt to defend Russell. Orlando’s strength is down low with Vucevic but the Nets have a really good big man in Jarrett Allen who is one of the top young defenders in the NBA, so expect Allen to play a pivotal role in keeping the potential all-star quiet. Orlando has also not traveled very well this season as they enter this matchup 8-14 on the road and with them being on a long road trip I expect a slow start at of the gates. Take the Nets to continue their win streak and gaining some space in the East.

Betting trends for Orlando Magic:

  • Orlando is 9-10 ATS after a win this season.

Betting trends for Brooklyn Nets:

  • Brooklyn is 8-4 ATS as a favorite this season.
