Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Atlanta Hawks vs Portland Trailblazers
The Atlanta Hawks will travel to the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon, to battle the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday night at 10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Portland currently finds itself within third place in the Northwest division of the Western Conference standings behind the Oklahoma City Thunder. And while being only two games behind Oklahoma City, the Portland Trail Blazers certainly needed a win on the road in their last outing versus the Thunder. Nonetheless, this would not be as the Thunder shot 50% from the floor while relegating the Trailblazers to just 43% from the field as despite 34 points from Damian Lillard along with 31 points from CJ McCollum, the Blazers were not able to overcome 36 points from Paul George along with 26 points from Russell Westbrook, who went 9-20 from the floor in addition to also collecting 10 rebounds in addition to 14 assists, as triple-doubles have been come common to Mr. Westbrook.
On the other hand, the Atlanta Hawks halted a two-game losing streak by picking up a victory on the road versus the Chicago Bulls in their last time out as John Collins was the man of the night in scoring 35 points in the victory while Trae Young also chipped in 12 points for an Atlanta team that shot 50% from the floor while connecting on 14 3-pointers on the night as opposed to allowing 44% shooting for a consistently struggling Bulls squad en route to the victory.
Atlanta Hawks 's Latest Performance :
The win versus the Chicago Bulls in their last outing was just the second road win for the Hawks in their last five outings as they were able to get a monster game from John Collins while also finding huge contributions from Trae Young as well. Taurean Prince along with Alex Len also chipped in 15 and 14 points for the Hawks on a night where they connected on 50% of their shots while shooting 38% from three-point range.
On the other hand, the Hawks allowed Chicago to shoot just 44% from the floor, as stated, as the Bulls were relegated to just 30% shooting from long range as Zach LaVine along with Lauri Markkanen chipped in 23 and 22 points, respectively, for a Bulls team that continues to drop game after game this season due to their inability to remain consistent, primarily on the offensive end of the floor.
Nonetheless, the Atlanta Hawks have not been able to gain any type of consistency either this season, as they are in the cellar of the Southeast division of the Eastern Conference. Nonetheless, the Hawks are winners of their last two road games, overall, as they have posted at least 120 points in each of these outings. On the other hand, they will be battling a Portland team that has been just as outstanding at home recently as they have posted at least 124 points in their last four games at the Moda Center.
Portland Trailblazers's Latest Performance :
Paul George not only contributed 36 points to the winning effort for Oklahoma City in their last matchup versus the Portland Trail Blazers, but, was also able to post eight rebounds as well as six assists in addition to Westbrook chipping in 29 points along with yet another triple double in the win. On the other hand, Steven Adams also had 14 points for the Thunder as well as they were on fire from the floor throughout the night. Of course, Damian Lillard along with CJ McCollum had strong nights for the Portland Trail Blazers as well; However, Portland shot only 43% from the field as a team as Lillard and McCollum chipped in 34 and 31 points, respectively, as stated, while Yusuf Nurkic also had 22 points in the losing effort as 19 turnovers doomed Portland in the end in this contest as Paul George along with Terrance Ferguson combined for 8 steals, total, in the matchup.
”They’ve been shooting the three well in recent games,” Portland coach Terry Stotts said of the Thunder. ”That made the difference, but I thought the biggest difference in the game was our turnovers that they created. The two quarters that we lost, we had six turnovers in each of those quarters and that just fueled their runs.”Nonetheless, the Portland Trail Blazers will look to come back home for a four-game homestand, beginning with the Atlanta Hawks, in which to get back on the right track. The Trailblazers have won six straight games at the Moda Center and will be matched up versus a Hawks team that has been atrocious on the road throughout the season, yet are coming off of a road win vs the struggling Chicago Bulls in their last outing.
How Atlanta Hawks & Portland Trailblazers Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Atlanta is 21-26 ATS while the OU is 25 – 22
Portland is 26 – 23 ATS while the OU is 23-25
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Look for this to be a very exciting and interesting matchup amongst the Atlanta Hawks, who will be looking to feed from the momentum of the last victory versus Chicago, and the Portland Trail Blazers, who will be looking to get back into the win column after a potentially deflating loss to division foe Oklahoma City Thunder. One can certainly expect Portland to push the pace early and often in this contest in which to obtain some easy buckets in transition and / or get to the free-throw line. On the other hand, Atlanta will follow the same type of philosophy as they will certainly be wanting a kick-start their offenses while also establishing themselves, defensively, versus a Portland team that has been red-hot lately on offense.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Portland Trail Blazers
My reason for the pick :
Portland has been very dominant at home recently, as stated, and I expect this to continue versus an Atlanta Hawks team that, despite winning their last two outings on the road, continues to be a very inconsistent squad, overall. With that being said, look for the Trail Blazers to be much more effective on the offensive end while hunkering down on the defensive end to limit quality looks at the basket for the Atlanta Hawks. In all, one should certainly look for the home team to end with a convincing victory amongst these two squads.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over
My reason for the prediction :
I will back the over in this contest as the Portland Trail Blazers have been on fire from the field on the offensive end, as pointed out. On the other hand, the Atlanta Hawks have allowed opponents to score at least 120 points in four of their last six outings, overall. With that being said, look for this to continue as the Blazers will be chomping at the bit in which to deliver a much better performance than in their last outing versus the Thunder. It is for this reason that the over will indeed be the strong play this contest among these two teams on Sunday.
