Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Miami Heat vs NY Knicks

The struggling New York Knicks will try, once again, in which to pick up a victory on Sunday night at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time at Madison Square Garden in New York City, as they will play host to the Miami Heat, another team currently struggling. The Knicks have lost eight straight games with their last being versus the Brooklyn Nets at the Barclay Center as their offense looks lifeless, once again, as Trey Burke along with Noah Vonleh led the team with 26 and 22 points, respectively. On the other hand, D’Angelo Russell scored 12 points on the night while the bench for the Brooklyn Nets certainly stepped up as Theo Pinson, Shabazz Napier, along with Ed Davis combined for 54 points in the victory for Brooklyn as the home team outscored the Knicks by 14 points in the second and third quarters alone en route to the victory.

The Miami Heat have struggled as well, as pointed out, yet, halted a two-game losing streak with their win over yet another reeling squad in the Chicago Bulls on the road in their last outing as Justise Winslow led the team with 29 points while Hassan Whiteside also chipped in fourteen points while grabbing 22 rebounds in the much-needed victory for the Heat.   The under has been the play in 16 of the last 21 meetings amongst these two teams at Madison Square Garden while the Heat happens to be 6-2 against the spread in the last eight meetings in New York City versus the Knicks.

Miami Heat's Latest Performance :

And despite shooting horribly from the floor, as stated, in addition to committing a whopping 16 turnovers on the night, the Nets were still able to pick up the victory over the New York Knicks at home in their last outing as the bench outscored their starters by margin of 71-37 for the game as Benson & Napier led the way with a 19 and 18 points, respectively while Davis also put in a strong double double on the night as he powered in 17 points while grabbing 14 rebounds for Brooklyn.

On the other hand, the Knicks went just 8-32 from three-point range on the night as leading scorer Vonleh went 3-11 in this area on the night yet leading the team with 22 points. Burke also put in a solid night for the Knicks with 25 points.  Tim Hardaway Jr struggled in going 2-14 for the night including 0-6 from three-point range. The Knicks were also heavily outrebounded in this contest by 60 – 33 margin as the Nets collected 18 offensive rebounds on the night compared to just six from New York.

The Knicks will now settle in at home as four their next five games will be at Madison Square Garden, where they have dropped their last four outings. Nonetheless, when  one considers that the Heat have also struggled on the road recently as well as throughout the season, the New York Knicks may indeed have a chance in which to pick up a potential victory in this highly competitive contest on Sunday. Of course, they will certainly have to have bigger contributions from Hardaway Jr in which to give themselves a shot at the win. Fortunately for the Knicks, Hardaway Jr has scored 20 or more points in two of the last three games for New York and will certainly be looking for a much better outing.

NY Knicks's Latest Performance :

Justise Winslow has been up and down on this season before his last outing versus the Cleveland Cavaliers as he had not eclipsed the 20-point mark in five games prior to this contest.  Nonetheless, when all was said and done, Winslow was able to post 27 points on the night, as stated, as he provided a huge lift to a Miami team that certainly struggled early on, yet came on late in which to shoot 46% from the floor for the game. Also, with contributions from Whiteside  along with Dewayne Wade, offensively, combined with their defense allowing the Cavaliers to shoot just 43% from the floor on the night, the Heat were able to begin their short, two game road trip on a positive note compared to their most recent four game road set to where they went 1-3 during this time.

It will be important to note that despite the victory, Miami continues to be losers of four of their last six games overall, as their offense continues to labor on a nightly basis as they are averaging just 100 points per game in their last six outings. In fact, The Heat have also failed to reach 100 points in four of their last six  games, overall, while also failing to eclipse this mark in their last five road games as well.

Look for Miami to attempt to gain some type of consistency on the offensive end versus a New York Knicks squad that currently allow opponents to score 118 points per game on 47% shooting from the floor. Nonetheless, the Knicks certainly put in a much better defensive performance in their last outing versus the Brooklyn Nets as the home team was only able to shoot 40% from the floor on the night.

How Miami Heat & NY Knicks Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Miami is 25 – 22 ATS while the OU is 24 – 23

New York is 21 – 25 – 1 ATS while the OU is 25 – 22

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Look for this to be an important game for both these teams as their offenses continues to struggle on a nightly basis. It is for this reason that I happen to believe that this game will be am exciting yet low scoring contest from start to finish as both defenses will take center stage in which to neutralize already inconsistent offenses of their opponents. In other words, look for this contest to be one where the winning team will certainly need to convert some critical buckets at pivotal points within the game in which to pull out a victory, due to the defenses playing solidly, throughout.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:   Miami Heat

My reason for the pick :

I will back Miami in this contest as I happen to believe that they will feed off of the momentum of their last victory in which to go into Madison Square Garden and pick off a New York Knicks team that continues to struggle on the offensive end, as pointed out. Of course, after such a disastrous outing in his last game, one should certainly look for Hardaway Jr to have a solid night on the offensive end on Sunday; However, his contributions will not be enough as Miami will find ways in which to hunker down on the defensive end late in the game to pull away and seal the victory.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

With the way in which both offenses have struggled lately as well as throughout the season, I feel comfortable in picking the under in this contest as I can certainly see both offenses struggling yet again throughout this contest due to a severe lack of consistency. On the other hand, the defense will certainly benefit from this as the under will indeed be the strong play in this instance.

Under is 5-1 in Heat last 6 when their opponent allows 100 points or more in their previous game.
