Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Washington Wizards vs Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers are set to return home to Quicken Loans Arena after playing on the road in their latest outing and they will welcome in the Washington Wizards in an Eastern Conference clash, the opening tipoff is slated for 7:00 PM. Cleveland has been the worst team in the NBA this season as they come into this game winners in 10 of their 51 games while Washington has won 6 of their last 10 games and is looking to fight their way back into the early Eastern Conference playoff picture.

Washington Wizards's Latest Performance :

The Washington Wizards are looking to extend their postseason streak to 3 consecutive appearances but this team has endured too many ups and downs over the course of the season which is represented in their record as they are 7 games below .500. The Wizards come into this game looking to avoid a losing streak after they dropped their recent road game against the San Antonio Spurs this past Sunday 132-119. Bradley Beal has been the leading scorer for the Wizards this season as he is averaging 24.6 PPG, 5.1 RPG, and 5 APG, and he was able to flirt around that mark against the Spurs with 21 points, 7 assists, and 4 rebounds while also racking up 4 steals. Tomas Satoranksy stepped into the starting role for all-star John Wall and he showed his abilities as the 2nd year pro recorded 21 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists in their latest outing which is well above his season average of 7.9 PPG, 3.9 APG, and 2.9 RPG. Starting center Thomas Bryant may have found a permanent home with the Wizards as he is playing well in his 1st season and he was able to continue his recent streak of good games with a double-double against the Spurs as he delivered 15 points and 10 rebounds. Otto Porter Jr. has been in the trade rumors over the past few weeks as the 5th year pro is a valuable asset and he showed his abilities off the bench as he was able the contribute 13 points and 4 assists against the Spurs, Porter averages 12.8 PPG and 5.6 RPG.

Cleveland Cavaliers's Latest Performance :

The Cleveland Cavaliers are clearly looking to tank in the post-LeBron era which will result in them missing the playoffs for the 1st time since 2014 and that has been the obvious as they have lost 8 of their last 10 games but they were able to win on the road in their recent matchup against the equally as bad Chicago Bulls 104-101. The Cavaliers have not had a go-to scorer this season which has resulted in a score-by-committee approach as they have 8 different guys averaging double-digits in the PPG department, and we saw that on display against the Bulls as 5 guys had 14+ points. Alec Burks was able to have one of his best games of the season as he recorded 18 points and 8 rebounds which is well above his season average of 11.5 PPG and 5.5 RPG. The Cavaliers are looking for Cedi Osman to develop into a solid two-way wing and he showed his potential against the Bulls as he recorded 17 points and 8 rebounds as well as contributed 2 steals, Osman is averaging 12.4 PPG and 4.7 RPG in his 1st year as a full-time starter. Ante Zizic was able to have a solid game on the boards for the Cavaliers as the 22-year-old brought down 14 rebounds to go along with his 8 points, Zizic has started 8 games this season where he is averaging 6.7 PPG and 4.8 RPG. The Cavaliers were once again able to receive a solid effort from Jordan Clarkson off the bench as he recorded 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists, and Clarkson could become a trade asset as he is having a good season with Cleveland as he averages 16.5 PPG.

Against The Spread Selection: Washington Wizards

My reason for the pick :

How can you back the Cleveland Cavaliers given their current state this season as they are playing G-League players as well as trying to tank. The Washington Wizards are fighting for a playoff spot and have a fairly solid offense as they are outscoring the Cavaliers by 10.4 PPG and they have the far superior player in Bradley Beal who has been on a tear as of recent. Beal will continue to score at a high rate against a Cavaliers defense who ranks 23rd in the NBA, and while Washington has one of the worst defenses in the league, who will contribute for Cleveland? Washington should win this game by 10+ points after being stomped on the road against the Spurs.

Betting trends for Washington Wizards:

  • The under is 12-9-1 when Washington is a favorite this season.

Betting trends for Cleveland Cavaliers:

  • Cleveland is 2-7 ATS after a win this season.
