North Dakota Fighting Hawks vs Kentucky Wildcats
The Fighting Hawks of North Dakota University will travel to Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky, to battle the 2nd ranked Kentucky Wildcats on Wednesday night at 9 pm EST. The Hawks are coming off a 63-60 road win over the Wisconsin Milwaukee Panthers as North Dakota fought off a huge rally by the Panthers in the second half to get an all-important victory behind 14 points from Conner Avants. The Fighting Hawks shot only 41% for the game yet held the Panthers to only 33% shooting from the floor while allowing them just eight made threes out of 36 attempts.
The Wildcats won their first game of the season on Friday night over the Southern Illinois Salukis by a 71-59 score at home as Keldon Johnson along with Immanuel Quickly each scored 15 points for the day as UK outrebounded the Salukis 48-16 for the game. This will be the first meeting ever amongst these two squads.
North Dakota Fighting Hawks's Latest Performance :
North Dakota picked up their second win on the season while remaining undefeated due to a three-point road win over the Wisconsin Milwaukee Panthers as Connner Avants put in 14 points to lead the team while Cortez Seales had 12 points and five rebounds in the win. For the game, the Fighting Hawks shot 42% from the field while locking down the Panthers in allowing only 33% shooting for the night. North Dakota edged the Panthers in rebounding by a 40-35 margin, however, they also committed 14 turnovers for the night, thus keeping the game interesting.
Nonetheless, the Fighting Hawks are ranked in the top 30 in points allowed (54) along with field goal percentage allowed (33%). With that being the case, they will certainly need to come out focused and intense on establishing themselves on the defensive end versus a Kentucky team that puts up 77.5 points per game.
Kentucky Wildcats's Latest Performance :
Kentucky, after a disastrous outing versus Duke in their opener last Friday, rebounded to beat up on the Salukis of Southern Illinois as they shot 45% for the field while only hitting four three pointers for the night. They outrebounded the Salukis 48-18 margin yet committed 19 turnovers compared to only 13 for the Salukis. On the other hand, Southern Illinois was allowed to shoot 41% from the field while going five of 16 from three-point range. Johnson and Quickly each led the team in scoring with 15 points each while reserve Quade Green scored 14 for the night.
In all, the Wildcats have an easy road ahead as they will certainly face subpar competition. It is for this reason as to why picking up wins versus teams such as North Dakota will be imperative in which to pad their win-loss record at this time.
How North Dakota Fighting Hawks & Kentucky Wildcats Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
North Dakota is 1-0 ATS while the OU is 0-1
Kentucky is 0-2 ATS while the OU is 0-1
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This game will be one that will be important for both teams. On one hand, North Dakota will look to get a huge win over a highly ranked Kentucky team. On the other hand, Kentucky, after their blowout loss to Duke, will certainly want to pick up wins as often as possible in which to atone for their early defeat. With that being said, look for the Fighting Hawks to not back down at the sight of the Wildcats, but, to embrace the opportunity while attempting to make something great happen as a result.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Kentucky Wildcats
My reason for the pick :
I will back the Wildcats in this instance as I certainly see them controlling the pace of the game throughout while also pulling away from the Fighting Hawks early in which to cruise to victory. As stated, Kentucky has upcoming games to where they will be highly favored. With that being the case, they will certainly use this opportunity to shore up vulnerabilities exposed by Duke in their first loss of the season.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over
My reason for the prediction :
Look for the over to be the play int his contest as it will be a back and forth affair amongst two offenses looking to extend their success. Of course, each of the defenses have played well recently; However, look for both teams to be effective on the offensive end as the Fighting Hawks will hang around for a bit. It will be up to the Kentucky offense to make plays throughout to which I feel they will. It is for this reason that I will back the over in this contest on Wednesday.
