Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Butler Bulldogs vs Dayton Flyers

The Butler Bulldogs will battle the Dayton Flyers at the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament in Nassau, Bahamas, on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Bulldogs come into the matchup undefeated at 3-0 for the season while coming off of an 83-76 home win over the Ole Miss Rebels as they were able to take control of the game late while taking advantage of 15 turnovers for the night for Mississippi.

On the other hand, the Dayton Flyers are also undefeated on the season and are fresh off of a 91-80 win over the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons on November 16th.  After a slow first half in which the Flyers went down by 5 at the break, they regained their composure in the second half in outscoring the Mastodons 49-33 en route to the much-needed victory.  Josh Cunningham led the Flyers in scoring with 20 points along with eight rebounds as the Flyers will look to remain undefeated versus a Butler team that is also hungry for yet another victory.

Butler Bulldogs 's Latest Performance :

Butler continues to run roughshod over their opponents, however, in their last outing versus the Rebels of Ole Miss, the Bulldogs proved that they can also win close games as well in pulling out the slim victory. In a back-and-forth game throughout, both teams shot 46% on the night; However, 15 turnovers combined with the Rebels inability to convert at the free throw line ultimately allowed the Bulldogs to come out with the slim victory. Paul Jorgensen led the Bulldogs with 27 points while Kamar Baldwin chipped in 23 points along with eight rebounds in the win.

Baldwin has been the undisputable playmaker for the Bulldogs this year as he leads the team with 23 points per game while also having six assist along with seven rebounds on the season per game.  Look for the Bulldogs to rely on his experience and playmaking ability versus a Dayton team that has certainly turned heads with their play early on in the  2018 season.

Dayton Flyers's Latest Performance :

Dayton had five players in double figures in their last win over the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons as Cunningham led the way with 20 points while Jalen Crutcher chipped in 18 points along with seven assists in the win as the Flyers shot over 60% from the field for the game. On the other hand, the Mastodons were allowed to convert over 50% of their shots for the game while also sinking 13 of 29 3-point attempts also.  In all, the Mastodons inability to convert at the free throw line in shooting 39% for the night along with the Flyers ability to outrebound the visitors by a margin of 35-21 for the game, Dayton put themselves in a position in which to pick up a hard-fought victory.

Dayton has been solid on both ends of the court to begin the 2018 season. Their offense is not only averaging 82 points per outing, but their defense has also been effective in allowing just 65 points per game to their opponents thus far. With that being the case, look for their focus to really be where it needs to be versus a Butler team that is currently shooting 53% from the field in 2018 while averaging 84 points per game.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

In all, look for Butler to speed up the pace in this matchup as they are very effective when looking to push the ball. On the other hand, look for Dayton to also come out offensive minded as well while also establishing themselves much better on the defensive end versus a dangerous Bulldogs offensive squad. With that being said, expect this to also be a very close and competitive contest to where both teams well likely struggle on the offensive end due to being matched up against defenses that are athletic and aggressive.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:   Butler Bulldogs

My reason for the pick :

I will back the Bulldogs in this matchup since as they are seemingly the better team thus far in the season. And while the Flyers have played solid on both ends of the court thus far in 2018, this matchup with the Bulldogs will certainly represent a step up in competition. In all, look for the Bulldogs to exert themselves on the  offensive end early while using this momentum in which to step up their play on the defensive end. In other words, expect Butler to come out with a hard-fought win over a pesky Dayton Flyers squad that will certainly be confident entering this matchup.

Totals Selection: Pick: Over

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the over in this contest and that both teams are known to be defensive-minded squads. And while both  units have been solid thus far in the season, look for them to succumb early and often to very dangerous offenses. Besides, both teams will be looking to extend their stellar play on the offensive end, so, one can certainly look for the over to be the logical choice in this contest on Wednesday night.
