Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Minnesota Golden Gophers vs Washington Huskies

The Minnesota Golden Gophers will meet the 24th ranked Washington Huskies in the Vancouver Classic in Vancouver, Canada, on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Golden Gophers picked up the  69-64 victory over the Texas A&M Aggies in their first game of the tournament as Jordan Murphy and Amir Coffey had 14 and 12 points, respectively while reserves Dupree McBrayer had 10 points on the night for Minnesota in the victory.

On the other hand, the Washington Huskies picked up an 82-68 blowout win over the Santa Clara Broncos in their first matchup of the Vancouver Classic as they went into the half up by 10 points while cruising to victory in the second. And while the Huskies allowed the Broncos to shoot 45% for the night, Washington shot 48% for the game while sinking 8 of  23 three point attempts for the night. The Golden Gophers will certainly look to keep their outstanding season in tact thus far; However, they may find a number of issues in matching up with a Washington team that is Averaging 72 points per game on 45% shooting while their defense is allowing just 69 points per game on 43% shooting.

Minnesota Golden Gophers's Latest Performance :

In their last two outings, the Minnesota Golden Gophers have had to hunker down on the defensive end in which to become victorious. In their last outing versus the Aggies of Texas A&M, The Golden Gophers jumped out to a 36-28 halftime lead and despite being outscored by the Aggies in the second half, were able to pull out the hard-fought victory in the end. Also, the Golden Gophers were able to withstand 20 turnovers on the night in which to pick up the victory as Jordan Murphy and Amir Coffey were the primary catalyst in allowing Minnesota to remain undefeated.  And while the offense for the Golden Gophers were very much dismal on the night in shooting 43% from the field, they allowed the Aggies to shoot 41% from the floor while connecting on only 3 of 15 3-point attempts for the night.

Of course, the Minnesota Golden Gophers were certainly on an off-night in their last outing as they are currently averaging 84 points per game on 52% shooting from the field. Of course, one can potentially surmise that the Golden Gophers have a tendency to lean toward their offense in which to win games; However, their defense is allowing opponents to score only 69 points per game on 41.8% shooting on the season. In all, expect this  game with the Huskies to be a very competitive contest amongst two teams looking to extend they’re outstanding play to begin the season.

Washington Huskies's Latest Performance :

While Washington’s offense has averaged 72 points per game on the season, they have not been consistent in their efforts as a whole thus far in the season. Jaylen Nowell is the leading scorer for the Huskies averaging 20.8 points per game and was able to rack up 32 points in their matchup versus the Santa Clara Broncos.  He would also have help from reserves Dominic Green, who scored 13 points for the night, while Noah Dickerson ended the game with 11 points And 5 rebounds.

The defense has continued to step up for the Huskies as they have allowed opponents to score less than 70 points in their last two games. And despite an ugly loss to the Auburn Tigers on the road on November 9th, the Huskies have battled back in which to win their last two games by an average margin of 9 points.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Look for  both the Huskies and the Golden Gophers to come out and push the pace in this matchup as both teams  certainly have the talent in which to benefit from this type of philosophy. On the other hand, the defenses for both teams have been solid this year as well and have been effective at picking up critical stops when needed. With that being said, look for Minnesota and Washington to come into this game with a mindset to get a win after lackluster performances in their opening round wins.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:   Minnesota Golden Gophers

My reason for the pick :

I will pick Minnesota in this matchup as I believe that they have the much better talent at the end of the day in which to pull out a victory. Also, while the Golden Gopher offense has not been clicking on all cylinders, they continue to have potential playmakers within the lineup while also having a defense that they can rely on in which to get stops. It is for this reason that I will back on the Golden Gophers to pull out a convincing win over a Washington Huskies squad that has played well up until this point, however, will certainly have their issues in matching up versus a solid Minnesota squad.

Totals Selection: Pick: Over

My reason for the prediction :

I will pick the over in this contest as I believe that both offenses will certainly be looking to atone from a dismal performance in their last outing. With that being the case, expect the Huskies, as stated, to push the pace of the game constantly throughout this matchup. Of course, the Minnesota Golden Gophers can play at this pace as well and will certainly put some points on the board as a result.  In all, expect the over to be the strong play in this matchup on Wednesday night.
