Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Minnesota Golden Gophers vs Boston College Eagles
The Minnesota Golden Gophers will travel to Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, to battle the Boston College Eagles on Monday night at 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Golden Gophers continue their stella streak of play in picking up a 68-66 neutral-site win over the Washington Huskies in their last time out on November 21st. In this matchup, Minnesota came from 5 down at the half to outscore the Huskies 48-41 in the second half en route to the huge victory. The Golden Gophers did struggle on the night in shooting only 38% yet were led by their playmakers in Jordan Murphy and Amir Coffey with 18 and 17 points, respectively, in the win.
On the other hand, the Boston College Eagles have also maintained a decent season up until this point as they won their second straight game in picking up a 78-66 neutral-site win over Loyola Chicago as they obtained a 10-point lead at the half while cruising to victory in the second with Jordan Chapman leading the way with 20 points for the Eagles while nailing 3-6 3-pointers for the contest.
Minnesota Golden Gophers's Latest Performance :
The Golden Gophers have proven that they can win close games while also proving that they can blow out opponents as well. They would have a great showing during the Vancouver Showcase in Vancouver, Canada, as they picked up three straight wins over the Aggies of Texas A&M, the Broncos of Santa Clara University, along with their last victory over the Washington Huskies in what was a close game throughout. The Golden Gophers picked up the win despite allowing the Huskies to shoot over 50% from the field as they went on a fierce second-half rally in which to control the pace of the game while also sealing the victory in the meantime.
Murphy and Coffy were outstanding, as usual, in scoring 18 and 17 points, respectively, in which to allow Minnesota to pull out the slim two-point victory over Washington; However, the offense only shot 38% from the field for the night while coming up successful on only four of 12 attempts from long-range. These types of matchups have been typical for Minnesota as their offense tends to be a bit inconsistent at times while their defense has certainly been the tip of the spear to begin the season as they are, much like the Eagles, allowing only 68 points per game to their opponents yet allowing them to shoot at a much better clip at 44% per outing. They will certainly need to bring their A-game on both sides of the court as they are now matching up against a Boston College team that may not be the most effective team offensively, but, are guaranteed to bring it on defense on a nightly basis.
Boston College Eagles's Latest Performance :
While the Eagles are certainly not what one would call offensive juggernauts, they have managed to make critical shots down the stretch in the early part of their 2018 campaign in which to pick up early wins while also obtaining a bit of confidence in the meantime. Their defense, on the other hand, is only allowing opponents to score 68 points per game on 38% shooting per outing. In fact, the Eagles have held three of their first five opponents under 70 points for the season as they are certainly making their presence felt on the defensive end, first and foremost.
Ty Bowman, despite his rough shooting night versus Loyola Chicago as he ended with 12 points for the game, is indeed the leading scorer for Boston College in averaging 21 points per game. Bowman also leads the team in assists with four per game while also leading the team in field goal percentage in averaging 50% for the year. In all, the Boston College Eagles have had to grind out wins this season and will certainly be looking forward to the challenge of facing a Minnesota team that also continues to rack up confidence moving forward in their 2018 season as well.
How Minnesota Golden Gophers & Boston College Eagles Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Minnesota is 3 – 2 ATS while the OU is 3 – 2
Boston College is 3 – 2 ATS while the OU is 3 – 2
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This game will certainly be a battle from start to end as you have two defensive-minded squads squaring off against each other in which to pick up a all important victory. One can say that these teams are very similar to each other in that they each have star players in Murphy and Coffey along with Bowman and Chapman that can really change the complexity of a game. On the other hand, both of their defenses have been solid thus far in the 2018 campaign and are each allowing opponents the score 68 points per outing. In all, expect this to be a very interesting matchup from start to finish as I certainly see a defensive-minded matchup afoot.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Boston College Eagles
My reason for the pick :
While much can be said for Minnesota and their resiliency early on in the season, I will back the Boston College Eagles in this matchup as they will certainly bring some momentum back to Conte Center after winning two straight games in their last tournament appearance. With that being the case, the Eagles will certainly establish themselves on the defensive end, first and foremost, while neutralizing an offense for Minnesota that has been rather inconsistent this year. It is for this reason that I expect the Eagles to pull out a slim victory in this matchup while handing the Golden Gophers their first loss of 2018.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under
My reason for the prediction :
I will back the under in this matchup in that you have two stout defenses that are allowing under 70 points per game scoring to their opponents on a nightly basis. Also, the under has been to play in two of the last three home games for Boston College while also being the play in the last two road games for the Golden Gophers, overall. With that being the case, look for the under to be the strong play in this matchup versus two defensive-minded squads looking for yet another win on the season.
Betting trends for Minnesota Golden Gophers:
