Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Santa Clara Broncos vs California Bears1

Santa Clara Broncos will travel to Haas Pavilion in Berkeley California, to battle the California Bears on Monday night at 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.  The Broncos ended a four-game losing streak to begin the season by picking up a huge 71-63 road win over the San Jose State Spartans in their last match up as Tahj Eaddy led the team with 23 points on the night as the Broncos shot 46% from the field while holding the Spartans to merely 38% shooting for the night.

The California Bears, on the other hand, are coming off their second straight loss along with third in four outings as they were 76-59 neutral site losers to the Temple Owls in their last outing at the Gotprint.com  Legends Classic at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. In this outing, the Bears were blown away in the second half by a 44-30 margin as the Owl shot 54% for the night while nailing 9 3-pointers for the contest. Andre Kelly, Matt Bradley, along with Paris Austin each chipped in 10 points apiece for the Bears in the loss.

Santa Clara Broncos's Latest Performance :

As stated, the Broncos look to build from their first win of the season in this matchup versus a  Cal team that has struggled in every way in the 2018 season. And while the Broncos have also struggled, they performed much better in their outing versus San Jose State as Eaddy led the team in scoring with 23  while Josip Vrankic finished with 18 points in the much-needed win for the Broncos. Their defense was also much better as they only allowed the Spartans 38% shooting on the night. It will be important to also note that the Broncos picked up the victory after being heavily outrebounded by the Spartans by a 40 – 28 margin for the contest.

In all, look for the Broncos to continue their winning ways versus a Cal Bears team that has not been able to perform consistently thus far. In fact, look for both of these struggling offenses to potentially come out of their current funk on the offensive end as both defenses are allowing 75 points or more to their opponent per outing this year.

California Bears1's Latest Performance :

The Cal Bears have certainly had their share of issues on both ends of the court this season as their offense is only putting up an average of 69 points per game while their defense is allowing opponents to score 75 points per outing. Paris Austin leads the team in scoring with 16 points per game along with four assists, however, he has struggled in recent outings while the defense has also suffered the same fate. Nonetheless, they will look to get back on track versus a Santa Clara Broncos team that has also had its issues offensively and defensively in 2018.

With that being said, a win is certainly not imminent for California versus the Broncos as they have simply been too inconsistent in which two win on a nightly basis. With their only win of the season coming against the Hampton University Pirates out of the MEAC division, a game to where they scored their highest point total of the season (80), their per game average certainly took a dip in their three losses on the season as they were only able to put up an average of 65 points per game. It will be interesting to see how both these teams play against one another as they each have certainly struggled mightily throughout the season.

How Santa Clara Broncos & California Bears1 Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Santa Clara is 2 – 2 ATS while the OU is  3 – 1

California is 2 – 2 ATS while the OU is  1-3

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Look for both teams to attempt to establish themselves on the offensive end early and often as this has been the primarily catalyst for their early losses in 2018. Also, look for them also to use their early success on offense in which to play more aggressive defense against their opponent as well. In all, expect this to be a rather low-scoring matchup to where the defenses will certainly take center stage. The Bears and Broncos will certainly play a competitive match up on Monday night as the Bears may have a small advantage entering the contest due to playing at home in front of their crowd.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:   Cal Bears

My reason for the pick :

While both teams have struggled on both sides of the Court, as stated, look for Cal to come out with a much needed victory in this matchup as I have little to no confidence in Santa Clara playing on the road at this point. Of course, the Bears have certainly had their issues that are very much documented in this article, look for them to come out with a slim victory in this matchup in what will likely be a  high-scoring affair as both teams will certainly find their range against to subpar defenses. Nonetheless, look for the Bears to come out victorious in the end as they will pick up a few more defensive stops along the way than the road team.

Totals Selection: Pick: Over

My reason for the prediction :

As stated, with both teams allowing their opponents to find the range from the perimeter lately, look for the over to definitely be the play in this matchup. As stated, look for the Broncos to bring  a bit of momentum into this match up due to their last victory; However, also look for the Bears to enjoy making their return to the home court after a disastrous tournament run in the last few outings. With that being the case, look for the total to certainly balloon as these teams are not known to play very much defense at all thus far in the season.

Betting trends for Santa Clara Broncos:

  • The Broncos are 2-5 ATS  in last 7 games

  • The over is 4 – 1 in Broncos last 5 games

Betting trends for California Bears1:

  • The Bears are 3-6 ATS  and last nine games

  • The under is 7 – 1 in Bears last 8 games
