Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Georgia State Panthers vs Tulane Green Wave

The Georgia State Panthers will travel to Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse in New Orleans Louisiana, to battle the Tulane Green Wave on Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Tulane Green Wave are coming off their second straight loss as they were  68-61 losers to The Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns in their last time out as they did not play well at all during the Cayman Islands Classic Tournament last weekend. And while the Green Wave struggled on offense throughout this matchup, they only allowed The Ragin Cajuns to shoot 32% on the night. Jordan Cornish went  8 – 16 from the field to lead Tulane with 20 points in the loss.

On the other hand, the Georgia State Panthers picked up a huge win over the Georgia Bulldogs at the Cayman Island classic as they took a 51-32 lead at the half while cruising to victory in the second. The Panthers had five players score in double digits for the  night with Malik Benlevi leading the way with 24 points along with seven rebounds in what was their third win in for outings, overall.

Georgia State Panthers's Latest Performance :

After evening their record at 1-1 to begin the season, the Panthers of Georgia State have rebounded nicely in which to go 3-1 in their next four games with their last being a resume building win over the Georgia Bulldogs in the Cayman Islands Classic last weekend. In this matchup, the Panthers controlled the pace of the game throughout as they shot over 50% both from the field as well as from 3-point range. They also possessed five double-digit scorers as Malik Benlevi led the team with 24 points while Damarcus Simonds  along with Damon Wilson chipped in 17 points each for the Panthers.

Their defense, on the other hand, continues to limit offensive opportunities for their opponents as they only allowed Georgia to connect on 27% of their 3-point attempts for the night (5-18).  And while the Bulldogs outrebounded Georgia State by a 32-22 margin, they turned the ball over 17 times in the contest, thus sealing their fate.

Tulane Green Wave's Latest Performance :

The Tulane Green Wave will be looking to end a two-game losing streak versus the Georgia State Panthers on Wednesday afternoon as they will seek to establish themselves, first and foremost, on the offensive end where they have struggled recently.  In fact, for the year, the Green Wave are averaging just 70 points on 40% shooting from the field.  Caleb Daniels, wholeads the team in scoring with 15 points per outing, had only 10 points on 3-8 shooting for the night in their loss versus the Ragin Cajuns while Jordan Cornish led the team with 20 points on 8-16 shooting from the floor.

On the other hand, the defense for Tulane allowed Louisiana-Lafayette to shoot only 32% from the field as both teams struggled mightily throughout the contest. The Ragin Cajuns made eight three-pointers compared to only three for Tulane while the visitors also made good on 16 of 21 free throw attempts while the Green Wave missed 10 of 28 attempts for the night. Combine this with the fact that Tulane also committed 15 costly turnovers in the contest,  it would not be a stretch to learn that they suffered the loss in the end. Nonetheless, the Green Wave look to get back on track versus a Georgia State team that has been solid lately in winning three of their last for contests, overall.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Look for this to be yet another interesting game as I am interested to see more from this Georgia State Panthers squad. I have been not only impressed by their play on the defensive end, but,  by their ability to come up with critical baskets at pivotal moments in games lately. With that being said, expect the Green Wave of Tulane to come out focused in this matchup in which to halt a current two-game losing streak versus the Panthers. The problem for the home team will be that Georgia State has played very solid lately on both ends of the court, thus meaning  that they will need to certainly improve on both ends rather quickly as well and which to come up with a victory.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Georgia State Panthers

My reason for the pick :

As stated, Tulane has struggled on both sides of the ball lately and, despite being at home, I will back the Georgia State Panthers to pull out a victory in this content. In all, the Panthers seem to be the more battle-tested team at this point in the season as they have learned  how to blow teams out as well as how to pick up victories in more closer contests as well. With that being the case, look for the visitors to show a bit of composure early in the season in grinding out a hard fought victory over a Tulane team desperately looking for a win.

Totals Selection: Pick: Over

My reason for the prediction :

I will pick the over in this matchup  in that while Georgia State has been solid on both ends of the floor, they also continue to have a tendency to give up points due to missed assignments on the defensive end as well. With that being the case, expect Tulane to capitalize throughout this matchup while putting some points on the board in the meantime.
