Florida State Seminoles vs UCONN Huskies

The UCONN Huskies will take on the Florida State Seminoles in a neutral site matchup at the Prudential Center as they are participating in the Never Forget Tribute Classic, the opening tipoff is slated for 6:30 PM. The UCONN Huskies are looking good under 1st-year coach Dan Hurley while Florida State has continued to look like a top team in the ACC.

Florida State Seminoles's Latest Performance :

The Florida State Seminoles have continued their level of play early on in 2018 after they made an appearance in the elite 8 last season as they have beat ranked opponents and have blown out lower level teams. The Seminoles were able to end their latest homestand with a blowout type win over the Troy Trojans 83-67. The thing that makes the Seminoles one of the better teams in the nation is their depth and they showed that against Troy as 4 different guys touched double-digit points. Senior guard PJ Savoy led the way for the Noles with 16 points and 5 rebounds while fellow backcourt mates M.J. Walker and Trent Forest combined for 27 points and 7 rebounds. Senior guard Terrance Mann is the leading scorer on the season for Florida State as he averages 11.1 PPG and 7.3 RPG but he is followed closely by his fellow teammates as 3 different guys average at least 10.0 PPG. Backup forward Mfiondu Kabengele put together a nice outing against Troy as he was able to drop 10 points and grab 7 rebounds.

UCONN Huskies's Latest Performance :

The UCONN Huskies decided to move on from Kevin Ollie but that move looks like it has paid off in the early going of the Dan Hurley era as they have gone from the 300th scoring offense to the 27th in a year. The UCONN Huskies dropped a recent matchup against basketball powerhouse in the Arizona Wildcats 76-72. Jalen Adams has looked good in the Hurley system as the senior guard is averaging 18.8 PPG and he is coming off a big game against the Wildcats as he dropped 21 points, dished out 6 assists, and grabbed 5 rebounds. Senior forward Eric Cobb put together his best performance of the season as he was able to score 12 points and grab 10 rebound against the Wildcats which is above his season average of 6.9 PPG and 4.9 RPG. Junior guard Christian Vital was able to supplement Adams nicely as he was able score 11 points, Vital averages 12.1 PPG. The Huskies will be looking to squeeze a little bit more out of senior guard Tarin Smith as he was only able to score 5 points in 30 minutes of playing time.

Against The Spread Selection: Florida State Seminoles*

My reason for the pick :

This will be a fun matchup to watch as both teams like to get up and down the court in a hurry but I will have to side with the Seminoles in this one as they have a better defense as UConn has proven they can’t guard anyone this season. The Seminoles have a crazy amount of depth which is dangerous for any opposing team as they can tire you out in a hurry. The guards will match up nicely as both teams have a solid rotation of guards but the Seminoles have an advantage down low and that will be the difference in this one.
