Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Kentucky Wildcats vs Seton Hall Pirates
The 8th ranked Kentucky Wildcats will travel to Prudential Center in South Orange, New Jersey, to battle the Seton Hall pirates on Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Wildcats have reeled off 7 straight victories after their loss to the Duke Blue Devils earlier in the season with their last win coming versus the UNC Greensboro Spartans as they would erase a three-point halftime lead for the Spartans while outscoring the visitors 41 – 21 in the second half en route to a huge victory.
On the other hand, the Seton Hall Pirates atoned for a home loss to the Louisville Cardinals as they won their last outing versus the New Hampshire Wildcats by a 77 – 57 score as each of the starters for Seton Hall scored in double-figures led by Quincy McKnight, who had 18 points along with five rebounds while only shooting 5-11 from the field in the win.
Kentucky Wildcats's Latest Performance :
While offense has not been the strong point for the Seton Hall Pirates in 2018, their defense has certainly risen to the occasion thus far in the season as they continue to lock down opposing offenses. In their last outing versus the Wildcats of New Hampshire, the Pirates allowed the visitors to shoot only 37% from the field on the night as Chris Lester led the team in scoring with only 12 points off the bench in the lost. On the other hand, Seton Hall shot 47% on the night while nailing eight 3-pointers as they possessed five double-digit scorers, as stated, led by McKnight with 18 while Myles Cale along with Sandro Mamukelashvili each chipped in 14 points each in the victory.
In all, the Pirates are only allowing opponents to score 67 points in their last three outings,. Again, their offense has struggled mightily throughout the season while their defense looks to set the pace early in this matchup versus a Kentucky team that has certainly ran through their competition as far as the season.
Seton Hall Pirates's Latest Performance :
As stated, the Kentucky Wildcats picked up yet another 17-point win over the Spartans of UNC-Greensboro in their last outing by overcoming a rough shooting first half while pulling things together in the second half in which to outscore the visitors by 20 points en route to the victory. Reid Travis along with Tyler Herro finished the game with 22 and 18 points, respectively, for Kentucky as they combined for 9 three-pointers in the contest. On the other hand, Keldon Johnson chipped in 13 points along with 11 rebounds in the win as well as Kentucky shot 48% from the field on the night.
And despite having 17 turnovers, primarily during the first half, Kentucky ended the game outrebounding the Spartans by a margin of 41 – 27 for the game. On the defensive end, Spartans were allowed to shoot 35% for the game while nailing only seven of 28 3-point attempts as they were led by Francis Alonzo, who finished the game with 22 points, as he would go 6-12 from the floor. Kentucky, in all, is averaging 84 points per game on 49% shooting as they will now battle a Seton Hall team that is defensive-minded throughout in allowing teams to score only 64 points per game on 42% shooting.
How Kentucky Wildcats & Seton Hall Pirates Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Kentucky is 3 – 5 ATS while the OU is 3 – 5
Seton Hall is 4 – 4 ATS wile the OU is 2 – 5
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This will be a huge litmus test for the Seton Hall Pirates as they will take on a Kentucky team that has been stellar since their loss to a top rank Duke team earlier in the season. Of course, the offense for Seton Hall must begin to get more production on a nightly basis in which will allow the team to be taken more seriously. Nonetheless, they may find it very difficult to get back on track versus a Kentucky Wildcats team that has neutralized opponents offenses on a regular basis in 2018. In all, expect this to be a competitive matchup throughout and one to where the Seton Hall defense must exert themselves for 40 minutes in which to keep the game tight.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Kentucky Wildcats
My reason for the pick :
Again, look for this game to be closer than expected as the Pirates have played well at home in 2018. Of course, their record thus far at Prudential Center is 2 – 2, however, each of their losses were by 5 and 2 points, respectively, to Louisville as well as to St Louis early in the season. With that being the case, look for a Kentucky to grind out a hard-fought victory in this matchup as their offense is simply too talented and athletic as they will come up with some critical baskets late in the game in which to tip the scales.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under
My reason for the prediction :
I will back the under in this contest as it has been the play in the last four games, total, for the Kentucky Wildcats while being the result in three of the last four games, overall, for the Seton Hall Pirates. Add into the equation that two solid defense will be taking the floor in this contest, the under is indeed the strong play on Saturday afternoon amongst these two teams. As stated, look for the home team to come out focused and intense in this matchup, however, Kentucky will make the plays late in the game in which to pull out the hard fought victory
