Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

South Carolina Gamecocks vs Michigan Wolverines

The South Carolina Gamecocks will travel to Crisler Arena in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to battle the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Gamecocks continue to swap wins for losses as they suffered a 73 – 64 road loss to the Cowboys of Wyoming in their last outing as they relinquished a four-point halftime lead by being blitzed in the second half by the Cowboys as they were outscored 40 – 27 en route to the loss.

On the other hand, the Michigan Wolverines kept their undefeated record intact as they picked up a slim, 62-60 win over the Northwestern Wildcats on the road in their last time out as they were paced by Ignas Brazdeikis who went 3-6 from long-range while ending the game with 23 points for the road team.

South Carolina Gamecocks 's Latest Performance :

As stated, the South Carolina offense has struggled throughout the year as they are putting up an average of 74 points per game on 41% shooting, overall. In their last three outings, the Gamecocks have failed to reach 65 points or more in two of those outings. Their leading scorer in points and assists in AJ Lawson struggled in their last outing as he went 6-15 from the floor while ending with 15 points along with nine rebounds as he failed to reach the 20-point mark in five of his last  six outings. Chris Silva also struggled for South Carolina in going 3 – 14 from the field while ending with 11 points as the Gamecocks only had two double-digit scores on the night.

On the other hand, the defense for South Carolina allowed the Cowboys to shoot only 43% from the field in their last outing yet Wyoming hit 10 three-pointers on a night where they shot 50% from long range. Justin James went two-for-two from three-point range for Wyoming in the win while finishing with 20 points along with 12 rebounds as he only missed four shots on the night. And despite South Carolina winning the rebounding battle by a margin of 37-24, they committed 16 turnovers on the night which were very costly and essentially dooming their chance of picking up a win. They now look to regroup while taking to the road in which to face a tough Michigan Wolverines squad that has certainly been picking up an enormous amount of confidence as the season progresses while also being undefeated at home in their last five home games, overall.

Michigan Wolverines's Latest Performance :

Each of the games for the Michigan Wolverines resulted in blowouts during the 2018 season.  Nonetheless, the Wolverines proved in their last outing versus the Wildcats of Northwestern that they can certainly win close games as well. In their two point victory over the Wildcats in their last outing, the Wolverines only converted on 5 of 20 shots from long-range while shooting 44% from the field. On the other hand, they only allowed Northwestern to shoot 44% on the night while connecting on 6 of 17 3-point attempts.

Derrick Pardon led the Wildcats in scoring with 20 points on the night as he went 9-10 from the floor; However, the rest of northwestern’s lineup struggled throughout the game as they combined for 13 – 36 from the floor for the game. Again, the Wolverines did not shoot well from the floor in this matchup either, yet received a lift from Brazdeikis  from the floor as well as from long-range while Xavier Poole and Jordan Simpson chipped in 15 and 10 points, respectively, for the Wolverines in the victory. And while the Wolverines may certainly find success versus a South Carolina team that has struggled throughout the start of their 2018 campaign, they may also find their own set of issues versus a defense for the Gamecocks that is only allowing teams to shoot at a 38% clip on a nightly basis.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

South Carolina Gamecocks have struggled, lately, and with a matchup looming versus a defensive-minded Michigan squad, they will likely do so, once again, as well. On the other hand, the Wolverines may find it a bit difficult in which to score versus a South Carolina defense that has been solid on the season as well. Of course, the issue for South Carolina has been their lack of offensive production throughout the season. With that being the case, look for the Gamecocks to look to push the pace in this matchup in which to catch the defense for the Wolverines on its heels, thus picking up easy buckets in transition.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:   Michigan Wolverines

My reason for the pick :

I have no doubt that South Carolina will certainly bring their defensive-minded attitude into this matchup versus Michigan on Saturday afternoon. The point is that the Wolverines have a pretty decent defense of their own that will certainly wear down this offense for the Gamecocks over the course of this matchup while  pulling out a convincing victory at home. As stated, the defense for Michigan will certainly look to neutralize an inconsistent offense for USC for the entire game, thus allowing them to pull out a win and receive their 10th win of the season, overall.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

The under has been the play in three of the last five games for the Michigan Wolverines while being the result in two of the last three games, overall, for the Gamecocks of South Carolina. Also, with two solid defenses taking the floor in this matchup, one has to side with the under as being the strongest play in this instance. In all, expect a low-scoring and competitive matchup in this contest on Saturday afternoon as the home team will certainly show and prove; Yet the total will not surpass its set mark.

Betting trends for South Carolina Gamecocks :

  • The Gamecocks are 1-8-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall.

Betting trends for Michigan Wolverines:

  • Under is 8-3 in  Wolverines last 11 overall.
Under is 9-4 in  Wolverines last 13 non-conference games.
Under is 11-5-1 in  Wolverines last 17 home games
