Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Colorado Buffaloes vs New Mexico Lobos
The New Mexico Lobos return home to University Arena for their 2nd consecutive home game as they will welcome in the Colorado Buffaloes, the opening tipoff is slated for 9:00 PM. Colorado looks like a serious threat in the PAC-12 with a down year in the conference while New Mexico is trying to return back to the Mountain West championship.
Colorado Buffaloes's Latest Performance :
The Colorado Buffaloes are finally living up to their potential as they look like a threat to go deep in the PAC-12 tournament especially considering the fact that the conference only has one top 25 team entering this week. The Buffaloes are coming off a big home win against UIC as they used a 50 point 2nd half to win by 14 points. Leading the way for the Buffaloes was sophomore guard McKinley Wright as he dropped 21 points, dished out 9 assists, and grabbed 6 rebounds in the win. Wright has been solid for the Buffaloes in his 2nd year as a starter as he is leading the team with 15.1 PPG, 6.3 APG, and 5.4 RPG. Wright wasn’t the only guard who performed above expectations in this outing as sophomore guard Tyler Bey recorded a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Bey didn’t contribute much last year (6.1 PPG) but he is having a stellar year for the Buffaloes as he is averaging just shy of a double-double with 12.1 PPG and 8.5 RPG. The other guards for the Buffaloes were stout in this outing as D’Shawn Schwartz and Shane Gatling combined for 24 points.
New Mexico Lobos's Latest Performance :
The New Mexico Lobos made the Mountain West championship game last season but they have failed to live up to their early expectations in 2018 as they have been on the losing end of some bad blowouts. The Lobos are coming off an 85-60 loss at home against Saint Mary’s who like New Mexico is having a down year of their own. The Lobos didn’t have one guy who had a breakout game which is in part of their deep rotation as they have 7 different guys who play 20+ minutes a game. Leading the way in this game was sophomore guard Vance Jackson who dropped 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Jackson is is a big guard at 6’8 and his length is a problem for opposing teams as he is averaging 13.1 PPG and 7.1 RPG. Senior guard Anthony Mathis has been the leader for the Lobos all season as he is averaging 14 PPG but he was unable to generate much offense against Saint Mary’s as he was held to only 4 points in 24 minutes of playing time. The Lobos were without the services of junior forward Corey Manigault who is one of the 3 Lobos to average double-digit points this season with 12.8 PPG.

Against The Spread Selection: Colorado Buffaloes
My reason for the pick :
The Colorado Buffaloes are rolling right now as they have been winning their games in convincing fashion but what will be a major problem in this game is the fact that Colorado has a great offense and New Mexico has the 3rd worst defense in college basketball. Wright and Bey are nightmares for the Buffaloes as Wright can score on anyone and Bey is a lengthy guard and I just don’t think New Mexico can match their talent level especially with Manigault out. The Lobos have gotten blown out in 2 straight games against teams of Colorado caliber so I expect nothing less in this game. Colorado wins big.
