Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Florida Atlantic Owls vs Arkansas State Red Wolves

The Florida Atlantic Owls will travel to First National Bank Arena in Jonesboro, Arkansas,  to battle the Arkansas State Red Wolves on Friday night at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The  Owls are winners of five of their last six games, overall, as they atoned for a loss vs Bethune-Cookman in their prior outing by getting a win versus the Mercer Bears by a 68-64 score as the Owls took a 10-point lead at the half while extinguishing a late rally by the Bears toward the end of the game in which to pick up the much-needed victory.

The Arkansas  Red Wolves, on the other hand, come into this game losers of two of their last three games as they suffered a loss at the hands of the Minnesota Golden Gophers in their last outing by a 72 – 56 score as a 41-24 halftime lead put the game out of reach for the Red Wolves as they scored less than 70 points for the first time on the season. The Owls are   7 – 3 – 1 against the spread in the last 11 meetings versus Arkansas state, overall.

Florida Atlantic Owls's Latest Performance :

Florida Atlantic’s defense has been a huge reason as to why they have excelled throughout the season thus far as they are allowing teams to shoot only 42% from the floor on a nightly basis while putting up 68 points per outing. The defense also shined versus the Mercer Bears in their last outing as Mercer shot a tad less than 40% from the floor while shooting only 11% from three-point range on the night. The Owls, on the other hand, struggled from three-point range in shooting 23% on the night yet shot a tad better from the floor at 44% as they were led by Jailyn Ingram, who led the team with 22 points along with eight rebounds. On the other hand, Mercer’s Jaylen Stowe ended with 16 points along with eight rebounds.

Ingram leads Florida Atlantic’s offensive charge as he is averaging 20 points per game along with eight rebounds while shooting 58% from the floor on a nightly basis. The team  will certainly need his aggression on the offensive end in this matchup as they may indeed have success versus an Arkansas State team that allows a tad under 80 points per game while allowing teams to shoot 46% from the floor regularly.

Arkansas State Red Wolves's Latest Performance :

The Arkansas Red Wolves have been up and down the entire season as they began their 2018 campaign by going 1-4, overall, before winning two of their next three games prior to their matchup with Minnesota.  In their outing with the Golden Gophers, however, Arkansas State shot 31% from the floor on the  night as they were led by Ty Cockfield , who struggled from the field in going 7-24 on the night while ending with 20 points in addition to Tristin Walley chipping in 14 points along with six rebounds in the loss.

On the other hand, the Red Wolves allowed Dupree McBrayer  along with Amir Coffey to both shoot 2-3 from three-point range as they ended with 20 and 14 points, respectively, for the Golden Gophers yet Daniel Oturu Let the team with 19 points along with 12 rebounds on the night. The fortunate stat for the Red Wolves is that they are winners of their last two home games this season as they won both outings by 10 points or more. They will certainly be looking to get back on the right track versus a Florida Atlantic team that has been on a roll since the beginning of the season and are shooting 45% from the floor while averaging 78 points per game.

How Florida Atlantic Owls & Arkansas State Red Wolves Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Florida Atlantic is 4 – 3 ATS while the OU is  3 – 4

Arkansas State is 3- 5 ATS while the OU is  4 – 4

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will be an interesting matchup in that the Arkansas State Red Wolves will seek to right their ship at home, where they are undefeated on the season, versus a Florida Atlantic team that comes into this game only having lost two games on the season. And though neither offense has been lighting things up from the floor, the defense for Florida Atlantic, in particular, has certainly been solid throughout the season and will like to continue this trend versus a struggling Arkansas State squad on  Friday night.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Florida Atlantic owls

My reason for the pick :

I will back the Owls in this matchup as I happen to believe that they’re simply the better team on both sides of the ball as this point in the season. As stated, Arkansas State has its struggles on both sides of the ball in 2018 while their defense is giving up an average of 75 points per game in their last three outings, alone. With that being the case, expect the visitors to push the pace early in this matchup in which to put some points on the  board while relying on their defense to neutralize an inconsistent offense for Arkansas State in the meantime.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

While I believe that Florida Atlantic will certainly put some points on the board in this matchup, I do not believe that Arkansas State will reciprocate. In other words, the under will be the strong play in this matchup due to the inability of the Red Wolves to be consistent on the offensive end, as been the mantra for this team all season. With that being the case, look for the total to remain well below its set limit for this very competitive contest on Friday night amongst these two teams.
