Xavier Bulldogs vs Missouri Tigers
The Xavier Bulldogs will travel to Missouri Arena in Columbia, Missouri, to face the Missouri Tigers on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Missouri comes into this matchup winners of three straight games as they picked up a home win over the Golden Eagles of Oral Roberts in their last outing by an 80 – 64 score as they pulled away in the second half thanks to a balanced scoring attack which saw the Tigers possess six players in double digits for the night led by Mark Smith with 14 points on the night while he also went 3-6 from three-point range while pulling down five rebounds, total.
On the other hand, the Xavier Bulldogs atoned for a loss to Cincinnati by picking up a win over the Eastern Kentucky Colonels in the last matchup by a 95 – 77 score as they took a 14-point lead at the half while cruising to victory behind 16 points from Quinton Goodin.
Xavier Bulldogs's Latest Performance :
And while the Xavier offense has been stellar this season in putting up 78 points per game on 49% shooting from the field, their defense has stepped up lately which has made this Bulldogs team an even more dangerous squad. In their last six games to where the Bulldogs went 5-1, their defense is allowing opponents to put up an average of 66 points while the offense continued to light things up from the offensive end as they scored 80 or more points in four of these outings.
Their last game was certainly one of those outings as they put up 95 points on the Eastern Kentucky Colonels while shooting a whopping 71% from the field along with connecting on 7 of 16 3-pointers on the night as six players scored in double-figures for the Bulldogs, as stated, led by Goodin with 16 points, while Zach Hankins along with Naji Marshall ended the game with 14 and 15 points, respectively, as Xavier was also responsible for collecting 22 turnovers on the night while also committing 26 turnovers of their own.
On the defensive end, the Colonels shot 41% on the night despite making 12 3-pointers throughout the game as Nick Mayo led the team with 25 points along with six rebounds as he went 4 – 6 from 3-point range for the game while Dujuanta Weaver went 5-11 from three-point range for the night while ending with 15 points. In all, Xavier dominated this game from start to finish as they took a 14-point lead into the half while cruising to victory in the second due to their ability to limit offensive opportunities for the Colonels while also taking advantage of offensive opportunities versus a shaky defensive unit for Eastern Kentucky. They will not look too utilize their offensive explosiveness on to a Missouri team that has been locking down opposing offenses all year.
Missouri Tigers's Latest Performance :
Missouri won their third straight game as their offense put up 80 points at home versus the Golden Eagles of Oral Roberts in their last outing. Furthermore, Missouri shot 48% from the field while connecting on 12 3-pointers as they were led by Mark Smith, as stated, with 14 points along with five rebounds as the Tigers maintain a balanced attack with six players scoring in double figures. Missouri also were able to get to the free-throw line in this matchup as they shot 24 free throws compared to 13 for Oral Roberts.
Defensively, the Golden Eagles were only allowed to shoot 39% from the field while going 7-21 from long-range as Emmanuel Nzekwesi led the team with 17 points along with six rebounds while going 8-15 from the floor to lead the team while DJ Weaver along with Aiden Sanders chipped in 14 and 12 points, respectively, in the loss.
In all, Missouri continues to dominate on the strength of their defensive prowess as they are allowing teams to score only 64 points on 42% shooting on the year. In fact, during their three-game winning streak, Missouri is only allowing teams to score an average of 58 points per game. On the other hand, the offense continues to labor during this time as they have been able to put up only 68 points during this time. Nonetheless, they look to come out of an offensive funk vs a Xavier Bulldogs team that is only allowing opponents the score 71 points per game on 43% shooting on a nightly basis.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This will be an interesting matchup in that you will have a Xavier Bulldogs team that has been outstanding on the offensive end in 2018 going up against a Missouri squad that is certainly a defensive-minded team that will be looking to exert themselves early and often on the defensive end. In all, one can certainly expect a very competitive matchup in this game as Xavier will certainly love to atone for their last road game versus Cincinnati to where they were blown out on December 8th. On the other hand, Missouri will simply be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak while obtaining even more confidence moving forward in the season.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Xavier Bulldogs
My reason for the pick :
While I have huge respect for Missouri and their ability to hunker down and play defense for 40 minutes on a nightly basis, I will back the Xavier Bulldogs in this matchup as I happen to believe that they will be the better offense in this matchup while also making critical baskets down the stretch in which to pull out an all important victory on Tuesday night. As stated, Missouri has struggled much on the offensive end which will also play to the advantage of Xavier as they are team that is only allowing teams to shoot 43% for the season. Also, keep in mind that the Bulldogs defense has only allowed opponents to score 63 or more points in only one of their last five games, overall.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under
My reason for the prediction :
I certainly expect the under to be the call in this game as you will have a stout defense for Missouri going up against a highly dangerous offense for Xavier on Tuesday night. It is for this reason that the under will certainly be the strong play in that while I see the Bulldogs putting up some points up on the offensive end throughout the game, the Tigers will certainly keep the pace of the game slow in which to ensure that the score remains manageable.
