Cal Irvine Anteaters vs Butler Bulldogs

The Anteaters  of Cal Irvine University will travel to Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, to face the Butler Bulldogs on Friday afternoon at 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Butler atoned for a  neutral site loss to the Indiana Hoosiers in their prior outing by beating the Presbyterian Blue Hose in their last outing as they went down by one at the break while outscoring Presbyterian 35-25 in the second half en route to the much-needed victory behind 18 points along with seven assists from Aaron Thompson in the  win.

On the other hand, Cal Irvine comes into this game winners of three straight games as they picked up a victory over the Denver Pioneers at home in their last outing has they took a 47-16 lead at halftime and never looked back as they were led by Max Hazzard who hit 10 three-pointers on the night while leading the team with 32 points, total, as the team shot  46% from the floor while hitting a total of 18 three-pointers.

Cal Irvine Anteaters 's Latest Performance :

Cal Irvine will certainly get a workout versus the Butler Bulldogs in this matchup as they come into this matchup winners of their last four road games as their offense pumped in just 60 points during this time. On the other hand, the defense has allowed opponents to score an average of 58 points during this time as it has been the tip of the spear for their success in 2018.

In their last outing versus the Eastern Michigan Eagles on the road, the Anteaters allowed the team to shoot just 34% on the night along with 26% from three-point range as leading scorer, Elijah Minnie, went 5-11 from the floor while leading the team with 15 points while the only other double-digit score for the Eagles was Kevin McAdoo who came off the bench to score 11 points in the contest. In all, UC Irvine  illustrated exactly how they have been able to be so successful lately as they continue to lead with a stifling and aggressive defense in which to create opportunities on the offensive end. They now look forward to facing a Butler Bulldogs team that has played well at home on both ends of the floor and will certainly be looking to win their second straight, overall, along with 4th game in five outings.

Butler Bulldogs's Latest Performance :

The Butler Bulldogs have won five of their last seven games, overall, yet their offense continues to be up and down on the season as they are averaging only 74 points per game.  On the other hand, their defense continues to be the tip of the spear as they are only allowed 67 points during this time as they allowed their last opponent, the Presbyterian Blue Hose, exactly 67 points on 44% shooting along with 9-24 from three-point range as Butler erased a slim, one point deficit at the half in which to outscore the Blue Hose by a 35-25 margin in the second half, as stated, en route to the victory.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will be an interesting matchup as you have a solid Cal Irvine team, particularly on the defensive end, going up versus a Butler team that has been Jekyll and Hyde at home vs on the road on both sides of the ball. In all, one can certainly expect a very competitive matchup in this contest on Friday night as both teams will certainly like to continue their  outstanding play while the Bulldogs will be faced with the test in attempting to make some headway versus and Anteaters defense that ranks as one of the best in the nation.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Butler Bulldogs

My reason for the pick :

While the Anteaters have been playing outstanding on the defensive end all year, I will side with the Butler Bulldogs in this matchup in that they have played much better at home as opposed to on the road in 2018. And while the UC Irvine Anteaters will certainly bring their A-game for this matchup, they will fall a bit short as the Bulldogs will put in  some big shots down the stretch in which to pull away late in this game while coming up with the much-needed victory.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the under in this matchup as I happen to believe that the Anteaters will allow some points to the Bulldogs in this contest, however, the overall total will remain well below its set limit for this game as I  see Butler locking down an already inconsistent offense for UC Irvine throughout the contest as well. In all, the under is indeed the strong play in this instance as this will certainly be a competitive yet low-scoring contest from start to finish.

Betting trends for Cal Irvine Anteaters :

  • The Anteaters are 3-0 ATS  in last 3 year old games
The under is  6 – 3 in Anteaters last 9 games

Betting trends for Butler Bulldogs:

  • The Bulldogs are 1-4 ATS  in last 5 games
The under is 7 – 1 in Bulldogs last eight games
