Detroit University Titans vs Xavier Musketeers
The Detroit Mercy Titans will travel to Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, to battle the Xavier Musketeers on Friday night at 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Musketeers are losers of two of their last three games as they suffered a road loss to the Missouri Tigers in their last time out has Missouri built a 14-point lead at the half while cruising to victory behind 23 points from Jeremiah Tilmon as he also pulled down 10 rebounds.
On the other hand, the Titans of Detroit Mercy are losers of five straight games as their last loss came at the hands of the Ohio Bobcats at home as the Bobcats racked up a six-point lead at halftime and despite a potential rally by the Titans in the second half, were able to pull out the all-important victory behind 20 points from Jason Carter, as he was the only double-digit score for Ohio in the win.
Detroit University Titans's Latest Performance :
The offense for Detroit Mercy has averaged only 60 points during their current five-game losing streak while the defense has allowed opponents to score 78 points. In their last outing versus the Ohio Bobcats at home, the defense played much better in allowing the Bobcats to shoot only 43% from the floor for the game while making good on only five of 14 attempts from long-range as Jason Carter went 6-14 from the floor while also being the only double-digit score for Ohio with 20 points while Doug Taylor chipped in nine points along with 13 rebounds for the Bobcats in the win, as well.
The Titans only had two double-digit scores as Antoine Davis scored 19 points on 6-21 shooting to lead the team while Harrison Curry went 5-11 for the night while chipping in 12 points in the lost for Detroit Mercy, who was outrebounded 38-28 for the game. The Titans now take to the road in which to face Xavier team that will be chomping at the bit in which to get back into the win column. It will be important to note that in their last three road games, Detroit Mercy has lost each of those games by an average of 30 points. With that being said, they will certainly seek to make this game a bit closer as they will build off of their defensive momentum from their last outing in which to keep this game competitive.
Xavier Musketeers's Latest Performance :
The Xavier Musketeers was certainly humbled in their last two losses versus the Cincinnati Bearcats along with the Missouri Tigers as their offense was nonexistent throughout each game while the defense remain solid, for the most part, yet received no help on the offensive end en route to defeats. As stated, in their last outing versus the Missouri Tigers, Xavier went in at the half down by 16 points as they allowed the Missouri Tigers to shoot just 44% on the game along with connecting on eight of 23 three-point attempts as Tilmon went 10-15 from the floor while leading the team with 23 points while Jordan Geist also chipped in 13 points for Missouri as their offense continued to struggle, at times, yet were benefited by 17 turnovers by the Musketeers while also outrebounding the visitors by a margin of 37 – 28 for the game.
On the other hand, the Musketeers shot a dismal 38% from the field while connecting on 6 of 19 3-point attempts on the night as Quentin Goodin was their only double-digit scorer as he finished with 24 points, six rebounds, along with four assists on a night where he finished 6 – 10 from the floor. And while Xavier played much better in the second half, there offense turned it into a higher gear a bit too late as they were charged with their second loss in three games, overall. They will certainly look to get back on track versus a Detroit Mercy team that has struggled throughout the year as their offense continues to look horrible while the defense continues to allow a teams to score way to efficiently from the perimeter.
How Detroit University Titans & Xavier Musketeers Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Detroit Mercy is 8 – 3 ATS while the OU is 5 – 6
Xavier is 3-7 ATS while the OU is 5 – 7
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This will be an interesting matchup in that Detroit Mercy will look to get back into the win column after an extended losing streak while the Xavier Musketeers will also seek to do the same after a two-game skid of their own. In all, look for both teams to push the pace in which to kick-start their up-and-down offenses while also catching the defenses on its heels. Expect this to be a highly competitive contest and possibly a low-scoring one as the offenses have truly struggled, as stated, while the defense is continuing to remain solid, for the most part.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Xavier Musketeers
My reason for the pick :
I will back Xavier in this matchup as I see them taking control of the pace of this game early and often in which to obtain and maintain this over the course of the game en route to victory. As stated, Detroit Mercy has played terrible in their past few games and I see this trend continuing vs Xavier is team that has played well at home and will also be looking to pull out all the stops in getting back into the win column moving forward. In all, Xavier will win this game in blow out fashion due to their ability to remain consistent on both ends of the floor versus a struggling Titan squad.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under
My reason for the prediction :
While I certainly believe that Xavier will put some points on the board vs. an awful defense for Detroit Mercy on Friday night, look for the under to be the strong play as one must also keep in mind that Xavier’s offense has struggled at times, recently. With that being the case, look for their defense to have a solid night as they will certainly neutralize an already inconsistent offense for the Titans in this contest as the total will certainly not surpass its set limit for this matchup.
