Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

CS Fullerton Titans vs Washington Huskies

The Titans of Cal State Fullerton will travel to Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle, Washington, to battle the Washington Huskies on New Year’s night at 10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Huskies into this matchup winners of four of the last six games, overall, as they were able to pick up a home win over the Hornets of Sacramento State in their last outing with Noah Dickerson along with Matisse Thybulle contributing 12 points apiece in the win on a night where the Huskies struggled from the floor in going 43% for the game. Nonetheless, the defense for the Huskies allowed only 26% shooting to their opponent on this night while also permitting them to connect on only three of 14 attempts from long range in the victory.

On the other hand, The Titans of Cal State Fullerton halted a four-game losing streak as they picked up a victory over the Portland Pilots in their last time out as 44% shooting along with out rebounding the Pilots by a margin of 42-18 for the game was critical in allowing them to pick up the much-needed victory while gaining confidence in the meantime.

CS Fullerton Titans's Latest Performance :

Cal State Fullerton had lost their fourth straight matchup  after falling to the Nebraska Cornhuskers in a game to which they allowed 86 points. In fact, the loss marked the second time in a three-game stretch to where the Titans allowed 80 points or more to an opponent. Nonetheless, the defense for the Titans have been a staple of their competitiveness in 2018 as they are only allowing opponents to shoot an average of 41% from the floor on a nightly basis. Their defensive prowess was illustrated like none other versus the Portland Pilots as they allowed the visitors to shoot a tad better than average at 43% for the game while making good on just six 3-point attempts on the night.

The Pilots were also heavily outrebounded by a 42 – 22 margin by the Titans while Kyle Allman jr. along with Khalil Ahmad led the scoring attack for the Titans with 26 and 21 points, respectively, as they also combined for a total of 12 assists in the all-important victory. So, with a bit of momentum on their side, Cal State Fullerton will now roll into Alaska Airlines Arena in which to battle a Washington Huskies team that has certainly not performed well on the offensive end, yet possesses one of the best defenses in the nation at this point in the season.

Washington Huskies's Latest Performance :

The Washington Huskies have simply been an average team in their last four games as they have only one half of those outings, primarily due to their offense continuing to struggle at pivotal points within games. This was illustrated like none of the versus the Sacramento State Hornets as the Huskies actually went down at the half by a slim three points as they only put up a total of 19 points during the first 20 minutes. Nonetheless, they were able to gained some type of consistency in the second half in which to outscore the visitors  38 – 19 in the second half en route to the much-needed victory.

For the game, they allowed the Hornets to shoot just 26% from the floor as Marcus Graves along with Joshua Patton led the team with 12 points apiece as they were the only double-digit scores. On the other hand, Matisse Thybulle along with Noah Dickerson, as stated, led the Huskies with 12 points a piece in the win as the Huskies ended the game shooting 43% from the floor while connecting on only three 3-point attempts on the night. And despite forcing 20 turnovers, the Huskies also had 15 turnovers of their own throughout the matchup in what was a very ugly game. Nonetheless, Washington will look to rely on their defense, once again, in which to pick up a victory over a Cal State Fullerton team that gained a bit of momentum in their last outing by halting an extended losing streak by picking up a victory over the Portland Pilots.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Look for this to be a defensive-minded contest from start to finish as both offenses will struggle, yet again, due to the defense for the Huskies along with the Titans maintaining there successful play on the defensive end.  On the other hand, look for both offenses to attempt to push the ball as this will certainly allow them to somehow catch the defense on its heels from time to time. In all, one should certainly expect an exciting and interesting match-up amongst these two teams on New Year’s night as they will each be desperately looking for a much-needed win.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:   Washington Huskies

My reason for the pick :

I will back the Huskies in this matchup as they will neutralize an already  inconsistent offense for Fullerton throughout this contest. On the other hand, while the Titans will step up on the defensive end, expect Washington to hit some big shots down the stretch in which to pull away from the visitors at some point.  With that being the case, look for this to be a very exciting contest, as stated, with the Huskies pulling out a hard-fought victory in the end.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the under in this contest as it has been the play in eight straight games for the Huskies. And while I happen to believe that the Huskies will come into this game with the bulk of the momentum, despite a win by Fullerton in their last time out, look for them to really establish themselves on the defensive end early and often versus a team in Cal State Fullerton that will be confident on the offensive end after a much better performance versus a terrible Portland Pilots team.
