Purdue Boilermakers vs Michigan State Spartans
The Purdue Boilermakers will travel to Breslin Student Events Center in East Lansing, Michigan, to battle the Seventh-ranked Michigan State Spartans on Tuesday night at 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Spartans have won eight straight games after picking up a victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes on the road in their last time out as they were able to recover from allowing the Buckeyes 43 points in the first half by outscoring the home team 50 – 34 in the second half in which two rally and seal a victory behind an outstanding shooting night at 53% from the field.
On the other hand, the Purdue Boilermakers also come into this game with a bit of confidence as they have won three straight games after beating up on the Iowa Hawkeyes at home as 52 points was posted in the first half by the Boilermakers en route to a convincing blowout victory as the home team shot 53% while also connecting on 9 three-pointers in addition to capitalizing of 17 costly turnovers for the Hawkeyes throughout the contest en route to the victory.
Purdue Boilermakers's Latest Performance :
While the Purdue Boilermakers have won five straight home games, they have not come out on the winning end on the road recently as they are winless in their last three road games, overall. During these games, the Boilermakers only put up an average of 62 points while their defense has allowed 74 points as two of those losses were by four points or less. Nonetheless, the Purdue Boilermakers will look to build upon their present momentum by picking up a huge victory over the Michigan State Spartans on Tuesday night in what will be a very exciting Big Ten showdown.
The offense for Purdue was certainly red-hot in their last contest as they shot 53% from the floor while being led by Carsen Edwards along with Matt Haarms who were the only two double-digit scorers on the night with 21 and 14 points while each pulled down five rebounds apiece. Purdue not only won the rebounding battle versus the Iowa Hawkeyes in this game, but, capitalized off 17 costly turnovers as well en route to the victory.
Their defense was a bit lackluster in allowing 48% shooting to the Hawkeyes for the game as Iowa got 25 points from Tyler Cook, who went 9 of 16 from the floor while also pulling down six rebounds. Nonetheless, Purdue continues to allow a tad less than 69 points per game on 43% shooting for the year to opponents and will certainly look to bring their defensive focus into this matchup versus a Michigan State Spartans team that has scored 80 or more points in each of their last five outings.
Michigan State Spartans 's Latest Performance :
Once again, the Michigan State Spartans propelled themselves to the top of the Big Ten standings at this point in the season on the strength of their high scoring offense along with a solid defense as its counterpart. Cassius Winston has been the spark all season for the offense as he is averaging 18 points per game for Michigan State and has scored 20 points or more in three of their last four outings, overall.
He posted 25 points in their last matchup versus the Ohio State Buckeyes Along with five assists as he only went 2-6 from long-range yet went 8-12 from the floor. Nick Ward also provided a huge lift for Michigan State in the win as he scored 21 points while going 11-14 from the free throw line en route to the victory for the Spartans. Again, the Spartans shot 54% from the floor on the night while nailing 33% of their 3-pointers in the meantime while they held Ohio State to 43% shooting while permitting them to connect on 7 of 25 attempts from long-range as Kaleb Wesson went 1-2 from long range in this outing yet ending with 25 points along with eight rebounds to lead the team. On the other hand, CJ Jackson, Andre Wesson, along with Keyshawn Woods went a combined 7 – 22 for the floor for Ohio State on a night where they could not find any consistency on the offensive end.
Of course, Michigan state has prided itself on limiting offensive opportunities for its opponents throughout the 2018 season and will certainly look to do so in this matchup vs a Purdue team that has garnered a bit of momentum lately. Nonetheless, the Spartans, in their last five games, has only allowed opponents to average 58 points per game while their offense has pumped out an average of 87 points per game during this time.

Look for the pace of this matchup to be fast throughout as Michigan state will certainly be looking to kick-start their offense early and often. Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Michigan State Spartans
My reason for the pick :
While I believe that Purdue will certainly make this game interesting early on, one should certainly look for the Michigan State Spartans to control the pace of this game throughout while pulling away at some point due to their ability to remain consistent on the offensive end while continuing to be stingy on the defensive side of the floor. As stated, Michigan State has dominated their opponents in the last 5 home games and I certainly see these trends continuing as Purdue has not played well on the road recently due to their inability to perform as effectively on the offensive end. Look for this to continue versus a stout Michigan State defense on Tuesday night as the home team will pull out a convincing victory at the end.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over
My reason for the prediction :
The over has not only been the play in three of the last four games for the Michigan State Spartans, but, has also been the result in for the last five games, overall, for the Purdue Boilermakers. I certainly see these trends continuing in this matchup as Michigan State’s offense will prove, once again, that they are a force to be reckoned with in the nation en route to a huge victory. Of course, Purdue will put some points on the board as well as they have also put up 80 or more points in three of their last four games; However, they certainly will not have the same type of offensive output versus the Michigan State Spartans. In all, look for the scoreboard to swell in favor of the home team as the over will indeed be the strong play.
