Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Virginia Tech Hokies vs Georgia Tech Yellowjackets

The 10th ranked Virginia Tech Hokies will travel to McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta, Georgia, to battle the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Yellowjackets are winners of four of their last five games, overall, while also currently being on a three-game winning streak as they were victorious over a Wake Forest Demon Deacon squad in their last time out as they shot 55% from the floor while holding the Demon Deacons to just 39% for the night. Also, the Yellowjackets were able to hit 83% of their  34 free throw attempts on the night en route to the much-needed ACC victory.

The Hokies were also victorious in ACC play in their last outing as they were able to pick up a victory at home over the Boston College Eagles as they were able to overcome a slow start early in which to outscore the Eagles by 13 points in the second half while also getting 25 along with 20 points from Nickeil Alexander-Walker along with Kerry Blackshear jr.

Virginia Tech Hokies 's Latest Performance :

Since their loss to Penn State on November 27th, Virginia Tech has picked up victories in each of their last eight games with their offense scoring 80 + points in six of those matchups. Unfortunately for the Hokies, they did not accomplish this feat in their last matchup versus the Boston College Eagles, however, were able to pick up a huge ACC victory in the meantime which catapulted them to the top spot with in the ACC  conference.

Nonetheless, the Hokies will certainly look to continue their  momentum and confidence moving forward vs. a defensive-minded Georgia Tech team whose offense has seemed to have turned the corner in their last outing versus the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in putting up 90 or more points for the first time in their last 10 games, overall.

As stated, the Hokies had their fair share of problems in figuring out this Boston College team early on as the Eagles went up at the half by a slim two points. However, Virginia Tech was able to regain  their wits in the second half in which to outscore the visitors by a 47 – 34 margin in which to pick up the huge conference victory. Of course, one can certainly look for Virginia Tech to begin this game on a fast pace as they will look to control this area of the game, throughout, versus a Georgia Tech team that will be looking to slow down the pace considerably and which to allow their defense to take center stage. However, the Yellowjackets will certainly not find this to be easy versus a Virginia Tech team that has simply been red-hot from the field throughout the season in averaging 81 points per game on 52% shooting from the floor on a nightly basis.

Georgia Tech Yellowjackets's Latest Performance :

And while the offense for Georgia Tech went through a rough stretch to where they struggled mightily for seven straight games, the Yellowjackets have certainly picked things up on this end in their last three outings as they are averaging 88 points per game while the defense has been as solid as ever in allowing just 69 points during this time. Nonetheless, versus Wake Forest in their last time out, Georgia Tech allowed the most points in either of their last three outings as the Demon Deacons were able to put up 79 points total on just 39% shooting. And while the visitors were able to connect on nine of 22 3-point attempts for the night, they also committed 12 turnovers on the night en route to the defeat.

The Yellowjackets, on the other hand, shot a tad over 55% from the floor, as stated, as James Banks III along with Michael Devoe led the team with 20 and 16 points, respectively, as Devoe went 3-4 from long-range during the contest. Brandon Childress along with Jaylen Hoard lead Wake Forest with 28 points along with 19 points in the matchup.

Nonetheless, Georgia Tech will move on in which to face a red-hot Virginia Tech team on their home court, to where they are winners of five of their last seven games, overall. This matchup will be only the second true road matchup for the Virginia Tech Hokies this year as their first road game of the season turned out to be a loss to the Penn State Nittany Lions.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Look for this to be one of the more interesting games of the night as the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will look to continue their success in 2018 at home as they will battle in Virginia Tech team that is certainly on a high  and will be looking to pick up their 9th straight win with a victory. And while I have talked at length about the Georgia Tech defense and its overall effectiveness this season, it will be an also important to note that the Virginia Tech defense is currently allowing teams to shoot only at a 39% clip per game while allowing just 58 points per game.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Virginia Tech Hokies

My reason for the pick :

Virgedinia Tech is finally beginning to obtain recognition for their tough play on both ends of the floor. Now that they are on the map, however, they must be able to show a sense of resiliency on a nightly basis as they will certainly get their opponents  best with every outing that passes. With that being the case, look for the Hokies to make some critical baskets down the stretch on a night to where they will likely struggle on the offensive end. On the other hand, look for the Hokies to stiffen up on the defensive end as well as the Georgia Tech offense proved in their last outing that they can indeed be a dangerous team on the offensive end as well. Nonetheless, the visitors will  pull out a slim victory in this contest  and what will be an exciting and very competitive match up the route.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the under in this contest as both defenses will look to establish themselves early and often in this contest as they will not only be dealing with a dangerous offense for Virginia Tech, but, the road team will certainly look to neutralize an inconsistent offense for Georgia Tech that scored over 90 points in their last outing. In all, the under is indeed the strong play in this contest as I see both defense is hunkering down at pivotal points in which to limit offensive opportunities for their opponents, throughout.

Betting trends for Virginia Tech Hokies :

  • The Hokies are 4-2 against the spread in the last six games

Betting trends for Georgia Tech Yellowjackets:

  • The Yellow Jackets are 6-3 against the spread in last 9 games
