Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Arizona State Sun Devils vs Stanford Cardinal
The Stanford Cardinal are set to return home to the Stanford Maples Pavilion for their 2nd consecutive home game where they will play host to the Arizona Sun Devils in a Pac-12 clash, the opening tipoff is slated for 6:00 PM. Arizona State has enjoyed a good year and might be the favorite to win the conference this season while Stanford has a ton of young talent but still look to be a year or two away from competing in the Pac-12.
Arizona State Sun Devils's Latest Performance :
The Arizona State Sun Devils are seeking consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances for the 1st time since the 1979-1981 seasons and Bobby Hurley doesn’t only have them in prime position to do that but also in striking range of running the weak Pac-12. Arizona State was able to reach 2-1 in conference play after a recent win over California 80-66. Arizona State may not score as many points as we saw last season but they still have scoring depth as 5 different guys average at least 10+ PPG. Sophomore guard Remy Martin had a big outing for the Sun Devils as he was able to drop 24 points and dish out 8 assists. Martin was supposed to be “the scorer” for the Sun Devils this season but he hasn’ taken off as expected as he only averages 12.9 PPG. Senior forward Zylan Cheatham has done the dirty work all season long as he averages 12.1 PPG and 9.3 RPG which he was able to match in their latest outing as he recorded 17 points and 6 rebounds. The leading scorer on the season for Arizona State has been freshmen guard Luguentz Dort as he averages 17.2 PPG who by the way looks like an NBA prospect as he can score at all three levels, Dort recorded 13 points against the Golden Bears. Arizona State needs to play better on the defensive end if they want to bust some brackets as they currently rank 213th in the nation for scoring defense.
Stanford Cardinal's Latest Performance :
The Stanford Cardinal once had a top-15 recruiting class not too long ago but this program is still rebuilding and we have seen that during the early going of the 2018-2019 season as they have started Pac-12 play 0-3. The Stanford Cardinal enter this game fresh off a loss against the Arizona Wildcats 75-70. Sophomore forward Kezie Okpala was a part of their top recruiting class and we have seen him develop into an NBA prospect as he averages 17.7 PPG and 6.5 RPG. Okpala was one of the only guys to find his stroke against the Wildcats as he was able to record a team-high 29 points and 6 rebounds. Joining Okpala in the 2017 signing class was Daejon Davis and he has been just as important as Okpala has and we saw that against Arizona as he dropped 15 points as well as grabbed 6 rebounds, Davis enters this matchup averaging 12.1 PPG and 4.1 APG. Senior forward John Sharma has been coming off the bench for the Cardinal but he received the start against Arizona and may have solidified a spot in the starting lineup as he recorded 8 points and 7 rebounds. Freshmen guard Cormac Ryan is one of 3 Cardinal to average at least 10+ PPG but he was unable to find the bucket against the Wildcats as he only dropped 2 points, Ryan is the go-to 3 point shooter for Stanford as he averages 6.8 attempts per game.

Against The Spread Selection: Arizona State Sun Devils
My reason for the pick :
Arizona State is the top team in the Pac-12 which doesn’t say much considering there is currently no team within the conference that ranks in the top 25. Arizona State has not been very good on the defensive end of the court but Stanford has been even worse which spells trouble for the Cardinal as the Sun Devils are knocking on a top 50 offense. Remy Martin and Luguentz Dort are two of the top guards in the Pac-12 and Stanford won’t have enough re-enforcements to stop that duo. The one advantage that Stanford holds is the fact that they have Kezie Okpala but even after his monster outing against Arizona they still lost and I think Arizona State is better than their in-state rivals.
