Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
LSU Tigers vs Arkansas Razorbacks
The Arkansas Razorbacks return home to Bud Walton Arena for their 2nd consecutive home game where they will welcome in the LSU Tigers in an SEC clash, the opening tipoff is slated for 6:00 PM. LSU was penciled in as one of the top SEC teams in the preseason and they have played well through the 1st part of the season and could bust some tournament brackets while Arkansas has not been as good as we expected even with a lottery pick returning back to school.
LSU Tigers's Latest Performance :
The LSU Tigers are looking to flip the script on them being just a football school as they want to assert themselves as a solid basketball program and Will Wade has done a good job in his early tenure as he has acquired top-notch recruits and looks primed to make the NCAA Tournament for the 1st time since the 2014-2015 season. LSU was able to open conference play at the beginning of this week with a big win at home over Alabama 88-79. Leading the way for the Tigers was sophomore guard Tremont Waters as he was able to drop 19 points and record 7 assists in the win. Tremont Waters was a prized recruit when he came out of high school and his production has matched that as he averages 12.9 PPG and 5.6 APG. The Tigers were also able to receive a double-double from senior forward Kavell Bigby-Williams as he was able to record 14 points and 13 rebounds which is well above his typical season production of 7.3 PPG and 5.1 RPG. The freshmen have been a big reason behind the success of LSU this season and they were once again as Ja’Vonte Smart recorded 15 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds off the bench while Darius Days pitched in 14 bench points himself. The Tigers were able to win this game fairly easy without their top scorers (Skylar Mays and Naz Reid) only combining for 15 total points.
Arkansas Razorbacks's Latest Performance :
On paper, the Arkansas Razorbacks have a solid record with a lottery pick leading the team but that is only half the story as they have been sluggish to start SEC play as they only beat a below-average Texas A&M team by 2 and lost at home to the Florida Gators. Mike Anderson has shaped the program into a top-notch one in the SEC as they will be seeking their 3rd consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance in March but they need to win must-win games in the conference. One Razorback had the biggest outing of his career against the Gators as sophomore Macon Jones was able to drop 30 points, Jones has developed well over the year as he currently averages 14.3 PPG, 4.9 RPG, and 3.1 APG. The top Razorback on the season in future 1st round pick Daniel Gafford fell just short of a double-double as he recorded 9 points and 12 rebounds. Gafford flirting with leaving school last year and declaring for the NBA draft and the early analyst has been that coming back to school was a good thing as he averages 16.4 PPG and 9.6 RPG. Arkansas has enjoyed the production out of freshmen guard Isaiah Joe as he currently averages 14.8 PPG but he was unable to reach that mark against the Gators as he only dropped 6 points. The Gators also did a good job of eliminating the playmaking abilities of junior guard Jalen Harris as he only recorded 2 points and 3 assists, Harris averages 8.9 PPG and 6.6 APG.

Against The Spread Selection: LSU Tigers
My reason for the pick :
I have been unimpressed with the Razorbacks to start SEC play while the LSU Tigers were able to beat a solid Alabama team by 9 points without much help from their top scorers. Arkansas has talent with Gafford but Naz Reid is just as good down low for the Tigers and he should be able to handle him. Both teams have sensational freshmen but LSU has 4 of them while Arkansas only has 1 and I think the Tigers continue to allow them to handle the ball and score. I think the difference in this one is the fact that the Tigers backcourt is slightly better than the Razorbacks as I like Waters and Mays to be able to find their shot early and lock down on the defensive end against the young guards of Arkansas. LSU has the better bench and I think they keep the starters leg’s fresh for late in the 2nd half where they will pull away.
