Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Providence Friars vs Georgetown Hoyas
The Providence Friars will travel to Capital One Arena in Washington, DC, to battle the Georgetown Hoyas on Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m. Eastern Standard Time for an all-important Big East Showdown. The Hoyas had won four straight games until they ran into the St. John’s Red Storm at home in their last outing as they suffered the loss thanks to the Red Storm outscoring them 12-9 in the overtime period in which to pick up a much-needed conference victory. It would be important to note that the Red Storm shot over 50% from the floor on this night while relegating the high-scoring Hoyas to just 41% in the defeat.
After being winners of seven of their last eight games along with 3 straight, overall, the Providence Friars have lost two straight outings as they fell at home to the Villanova Wildcats in their last time out as Villanova went up by 18 at the half and withstood a second-half rally by the Friars which entailed them outscoring the visitors 34 – 22 during this time. Nonetheless, Providence was not able to pull out to victory as they were horrible on both sides of the floor in allowing 46% shooting to Villanova while their offense only connected on only 34% of their shots throughout the contest.
Providence Friars's Latest Performance :
Despite Providence outscoring the Villanova Wildcats 34-22 in the second half of their last outing, they really posed no severe threat to the Wildcats after Villanova went into the half with a 43-25 advantage. Phil Booth led the team with 23 points, seven rebounds, along with dishing out six assists for Villanova in the win as they shot 25% from the floor while making good on seven 3-pointers on the night. Villanova was outrebounded slightly in this contest, yet, certainly took advantage of 12 turnovers for Providence in this matchup en route to the Big East victory.
Providence made good on just six of 25 attempts from long range while shooting a dismal 42% from the floor as Isaiah Jackson along with Alpha Diallo were the only two double-digit scorers with 11 and 10 points, respectively, in the loss. And while I happen to believe that the defense has remained solid, for the most part, the offense for Providence was simply not able to get anything going throughout the contest in which to turn the tide, so to speak. With that being said, Providence will take to the road, once again, where there have won their last two games, in which to face a Georgetown team that has struggled lately, as pointed out; Yet, has won five of their last seven home games, overall.
Georgetown Hoyas 's Latest Performance :
The Georgetown Hoyas remain a team that scores over 82 points per game for the season; However, they have been up and down in their last two outings as they are losers of two straight games, as stated. To add to their misery, the Hoyas defense, which has also been atrocious during this time as they are allowing teams to average 86 points during their losing skid. In their last outing versus the Xavier Musketeers, the Hoyas allowed 46% shooting for the night as Zach Hankins was able to post 23 points while pulling down 10 rebounds to lead the Musketeers in scoring. On the other hand,Terry Jones also posted a double double on the night in having 19 points in addition to 10 rebounds as he provided a huge lift to Xavier in the victory.
On the other hand, Georgetown was limited to 42% shooting on the night as Jessie Govan had 23 points while pulling down eight rebounds to lead the team. Govan also went 3-5 from three-point range as the Hoyas converted on 10 of 27 attempts from long-range throughout the contest. Georgetown was certainly able to get to the free-throw line to the tune of 28 times compared to just 18 for Xavier. Furthermore, Xavier was able to outrebound Georgetown on this night while certainly taking care of the ball as they had just four turnovers on the night en route to the win.
In all, Georgetown certainly did not play their best game on either end of the floor in this contest. Yet, they will seek to pick up a win in this matchup versus is a Providence team that suffers on the offensive end as they are only posting an average of 63 points per game during a two-game losing skid of their own.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Look for this matchup to be up and down throughout as both teams will be looking to push the pace in which to kick-start their struggling offenses in this matchup. And while both defenses are allowing 43% shooting from the field, or less, on a nightly basis, look for the offenses to take center stage in this contest as Georgetown as well as Providence certainly needs a offensive boost at this point in the season in which to move forward. Of course, they will certainly like to do this on Saturday afternoon while also picking up a conference victory in the meantime.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Georgetown Hoyas
My reason for the pick :
I will back Georgetown in this contest is I happen to believe that they will have just enough in the offensive tank in which to pull ahead of a struggling Providence Friars team at home while also picking up a huge victory as well. As stated, this will be an up-and-down matchup from start to finish as Georgetown will certainly be looking to push the pace in which to gain easy buckets in transition while also possibly getting to the free-throw line a bit more throughout the contest, as well. With that being said, one should simply look for Georgetown to pull ahead at some point while also picking up a convincing victory over the Friars on Saturday afternoon.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over
My reason for the prediction :
The over has been the play in six of the last seven home games for Georgetown while also being the result in the last two road games for the Providence Friars. In fact, the defense for Providence is allowing opponents to average 80 points per game in their last two road outings while the offense has posted an average of 85 points during this time. With that being the case, also expect the over to be the play in this matchup as well as both offenses will receive a shot in the arm with each having a solid offensive performances.
