Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

TCU Horned Frogs vs Oklahoma Sooners

The TCU Horned Frogs will travel to The Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Oklahoma, to battle the 22nd ranked Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. Eastern Standard Time for an all-important Big 12 Showdown. After a stellar season thus far, Oklahoma finds itself losers of two of their last three games as they suffered a loss to the Texas Tech Red Raiders on the road in their last outing as their offense grinded to a halt due to a horrible second half, offensively, as the Sooners shot just 32% from the floor on the night while allowing 45% shooting to the Red Raiders.  In all, the offense for the Sooners have put up only an average of 66 points per game in their last four outings, overall.

On the other hand, the TCU Horned Frogs enter this matchup looking to atone for a nine point road loss to the Kansas Jayhawks in the last outing as their high scoring offense grinded to a halt in this matchup in scoring just 68 points for the contest as they actually outshot the Jayhawks  46% compared to just 42% for the home team. Nonetheless, the Jayhawks were able to get to the free-throw line 27 times compared to just 13 times for the Horned Frogs while the road team certainly did not do themselves any favors by committing 18 turnovers on the night.

TCU Horned Frogs's Latest Performance :

The defense for TCU is allowing opponents only 67 points per game on 40% shooting on a nightly basis in 2018. Therefore, it has been very uncharacteristic in watching them allow opponents to average 78 points in their last two games, overall. This was certainly the case in their last matchup versus the Kansas Jayhawks as TCU allowed the home team to shoot just 43% from the floor along with 23% from three-point range. Nonetheless, the key to this game was the Jayhawks converting at the free-throw line as they went 20-27 on the night while the Horned Frogs only went 9 of 13 for the game.

And while their offense certainly took a step back from their usual output, TCU shot 46% for the contest while connecting on 9 of 21 3-point attempts as RJ Nemphard  led the team with 14 points while leading scorer Desmond Bane chipped in 13 points as he went 6-10 from the field. In all, TCU will certainly be looking to right the ship as they continue to perform well on the defensive end, as this has been the key to their success in 2018. Nonetheless, they will need to focus on an Oklahoma Sooners team that will also be looking to right themselves from a rough patch of play recently to where their offense has stumbled mightily.

Oklahoma Sooners's Latest Performance :

While the defense for Oklahoma remained solid throughout their current rough patch, their offense has certainly not been able to hold its own as they have regressed continuously throughout their last four contests in averaging just 64 points per game.  In their last outing versus the Red Raiders of Texas Tech, the Sooners were not able to get anything going as they went 20 of 62 from the floor on the night while connecting on 9 of 29 3-point attempts as Christian James along with Brady Manek were the only two double-digit scorers with 14 and 13 points, respectively, for a Sooners team that looked to be sleepwalking throughout the contest.

On the other hand, the Red Raiders were able to shoot 45% from the floor while connecting on just five of 19 3-pointers on the night as Jarrett Culver led the way with 23 points along with 13 rebounds while David Moretti provided a lift off the bench with 12 points. Oklahoma may indeed be in for a long night on the offensive end vs TCU as well as the Horned Frogs are ranked as one of the best in defensive efficiency in the nation, despite having allowed their last two opponents to score 81 and 77 points, respectively.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will certainly be an interesting Big 12 matchup amongst two teams with contrasting styles as the TCU Horned Frogs will look to lead with their defense in this contest as  they certainly rely on its effectiveness in which to obtain much better opportunities on the offensive end. On the other hand, the Oklahoma Sooners will be looking to shore itself up on the offensive end of the floor after  a set of outings to where they simply could not get it going throughout. In all, expect a highly competitive matchup in this contest versus two Big 12 teams as each will be fighting tooth-and-nail in which to come out with a much-needed victory.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:   TCU Horned Frogs

My reason for the pick :

I will back the Horned Frogs in this matchup as I happen to believe that they are the better team, despite their last setback versus the Jayhawks. Also, TCU will look to rely on their defensive prowess which has been the key to their success this season, as stated, in neutralizing an Oklahoma Sooner squad that seems to be stagnant on the offensive end at this point. In all, look for TCU to hit some big shots down the stretch in which  to seize control of this matchup while picking up an all-important conference victory, thus atoning for their lackluster outing versus Kansas, in the meantime.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the under in this matchup as I certainly see both defenses hunkering down a bit more, particularly that of the Oklahoma Sooners, due to a lack of offensive production recently. On the other hand, TCU will certainly bring its defense into this matchup as they will establish themselves, first and foremost, versus a TCU offense that, despite their 68 point output vs Kansas, remains to be one of the most dangerous offenses in the nation.

Betting trends for TCU Horned Frogs:

  • The Horned Frogs are 8-2 against the spread in last 10 games

  • The over is 5 – 2 in Horned Frogs last seven games

Betting trends for Oklahoma Sooners:

  • The Sooners are 9-0-1 against the spread in last 10 games

  • The under is 6-1 in Sooners last seven games
