Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Tennessee Volunteers vs Florida Gators
The Florida Gators are set to return home to the Stephen C. O’Connell Center after playing on the road in their latest outing and they will play host to the Tennessee Volunteers in an SEC matchup, the opening tipoff is slated for 6:00 PM. The Tennessee Volunteers are currently the 3rd ranked team in the nation and look like a true national championship contender while the Florida Gators have picked up their level of play and should be able to snag an at-large bid come March.
Tennessee Volunteers's Latest Performance :
The Tennesee Volunteers aren’t only seeking consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances for the 1st time since the 2009-2011 seasons but are also a threat to win the National Championship as they are currently one of the top teams in the country. The Volunteers have been able to open conference play 2-0 after they won on the road against the Missouri Tigers 87-63. The biggest outing for the Volunteers didn’t come from a traditional source as junior guard Jordan Bowden came off the bench and dropped 20 points, Bowden has been an effective bench scorer all season as he averages 9.6 PPG. The top big man for the Volunteers is junior forward Grant Williams but one of the top players in the nation was unable to find his stroke against the Tigers as he only dropped 4 points and grabbed 1 rebound in the win, Williams averages 18.8 PPG and 7.8 RPG. Stepping up in the absence of Williams was senior forward Kyle Alexander as he recorded a double-double with 14 points and 17 rebounds, but this should come to the surprise of no Tennessee fan as he averages close to a double-double with 10.6 PPG and 8.1 RPG. Senior guard Admiral Schofield fell just short of his own double-double with 16 points and 9 rebounds, Schofield has developed well under Rick Barnes as he averages 18 PPG and 6.2 RPG.
Florida Gators's Latest Performance :
Under Mike White, the Florida Gators have made 2 consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament as the young minded coach has shaped this program into one of the top in the SEC. The Gators started the year rough with a blowout loss against Florida State, but things have looked better as of recent especially in their last outing where they went on the road and beat a good Arkansas team 57-51. Florida has shown us all year that they have some of the best scoring depth in the SEC as although they only have 2 guys who average 10+ PPG they have 8 guys who average 6+ PPG. Senior guard KeVaughn Allen has been around this program for a long time and he has finally taken over as the go-to guy which we saw against Arkansas as he dropped 18 points and grabbed 5 rebounds, Allen is the Gators leading scorer with 10.9 PPG. In line as the next great Florida guard is freshmen Noah Locke and we saw flashes of what he can do against the Razorbacks with a 15 point performance, Locke is the only other Gator to average 10 PPG. The Gators will be looking to establish senior guard Jalen Hudson down the stretch as his stats are down significantly as he went from averaging 15.5 PPG a year ago to 6.9 PPG, Hudson was able to have a solid all-around game for the Gators as he dropped 9 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.

Against The Spread Selection: Tennessee Volunteers
My reason for the pick :
Normally I would jump on the home underdog in this situation as Saturday seems like a common day for upsets but I can’t get myself to bet against the upperclassmen of Tennessee as they are playing some good basketball right now. The Gators have not been able to score as much as years past but that has translated into one of the top defenses in the nation but the only problem is the Volunteers have been just as good on defense and even better on offense. Tennessee showed the ability to win on the road in their latest outing and the scariest part was that their leading scorer only dropped 4 points. Tennessee wants to keep asserting themselves as one of the top teams in the nation and going into a hostile environment like Florida will be a test but I see them pulling off the win.
Betting trends for Tennessee Volunteers:
- Tennessee is 5-0-1 ATS with 4+ days off this season.
Betting trends for Florida Gators:
- Florida is 3-5 ATS after a win this season.
