Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Davidson Wildcats vs St. Joseph Hawks
The first place team in the Atlantic 10 Conference will meet the last place team in the division as the Davidson Wildcats will travel to Hagan Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to battle the Saint Joseph’s Hawks on Tuesday night at 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Hawks have lost their last four games, total, as it came up on the losing end yet again by a slim, one point defeat to the Dukes of Duquesne as the Dukes ability to shoot free throws late in the game while also connecting on 13 3-pointers was certainly the key to their victory.
On the other hand, Davidson, after going through a rough patch to where they lost three of four games, have won three straight games as they picked up a victory over the VCU Rams at home in their last outing. And while both teams shot horrible from the floor as they ended under 40% for the contest, Davidson was able to power in seven 3-pointers on the night compared to only for 4 the Rams while Davidson also capitalized off 13 costly turnovers for Virginia Commonwealth throughout the contest en route to the victory.
Davidson Wildcats's Latest Performance :
The Davidson Wildcats have become accustomed to winning close games lately as they picked up their third straight win to where each victory was decided by 7 points or less as they were able to edge the VCU Rams in a very competitive and exciting match-up throughout. As I stated, both teams struggled from the floor throughout the contest yet shot well from the free throw line, which kept them both in the game. Nonetheless, 13 turnovers for the Rams along with an inability to shoot the 3 point shot ultimately sealed their fate in this contest as the Wildcats was able to remain atop the division as they turned away a motivated VCU Rams team at home.
Kellan Grady led the team with 21 points along with pulling down six rebounds as he went 3-4 from three-point range. On the other hand, Marcus Evans led the Rams with 16 points as he went 1-7 from long-range on the night while also pulling down seven rebounds. They will now face a St Joseph’s team. that picked up a 3-point win in their most recent meeting in February of 2018. And while the offense for Davidson has certainly encountered a huge drop-off in overall point production in their last three road games, the defense has allowed opponents to average just 68 points per game during this time.
St. Joseph Hawks's Latest Performance :
St Joseph’s Hawks continue to struggle on both sides of the floor recently as their offense have decreased their shooting average from the floor per game to only 41%. Also, the Hawks are putting up just 71 points per game for the year. Nonetheless, they are coming off of an 87 point outing versus the Dukes of Duquesne as they shot 47% from the floor yet its defense allowed the Dukes 49% shooting. In addition to this, the Dukes were allowed to connect on 13 3-pointers, as stated, while the Hawks were just nine of 28 from long range in the contest.
Charlie Brown jr. went 4-7 from long-range by lead the team with 28 points in the loss for St. Joe’s while the Dukes had six double digit scorers led by Michael Hughes as he scored 17 points while pulling down eight rebounds. To make matters worse for St Joseph’s, they are only winners of two of their last five home games as they will now face a Davidson team that also happens to be losers of two of their last three games as well. Nonetheless, aside from a blowout loss in Chapel Hill versus the UNC Tar Heels, their other two outings were decided by five points or less.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This will certainly be an interesting and exciting match-up amongst two Atlantic 10 squads in the Davidson Wildcats as well as the Saint Joseph’s Hawks as the Wildcats will be looking to hang on to their number one spot with an all-important victory. On the other hand, St Joseph’s will look to climb out of the cellar of the conference in which to string together some wins moving forward. Of course, with the Wildcats allowing teams to shoot just 40% from the floor on a nightly basis, look for the Hawks to push the pace to gain some easy buckets in transition while picking up some easy scores via the free throw line.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Davidson Wildcats
My reason for the pick :
Look for Davidson to score a win in this contest on Tuesday night as St Joseph simply does not have what it takes on the offensive end in which two allow this game to remain competitive over 40 minutes. With that being the case, one should certainly expect Davidson to pull away from the home team at some point while also having a solid shooting night from the perimeter as well. In all, the Wildcats will certainly lead with their defense on this night as the Hawks will have yet another dismal night from the floor en route to their fifth straight loss.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under
My reason for the prediction :
While I happen to believe that Davidson will put some points on the board in this contest, I have no confidence that the Hawks will do the same. As stated, Davidson will certainly pull away from the home team at some point in this contest while neutralizing their already inconsistent offense throughout much of the game. Of course, the under will indeed be the strong play in this contest as I certainly see the score board swelling in favor of the road team; However, the total will not surpass its set limit in this instance.
