Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Butler Bulldogs vs Depaul Blue Demons

The Butler Bulldogs will travel to Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Illinois, to battle the DePaul Blue Demons on Wednesday night at 8:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time in exciting Big East conference  basketball. DePaul has rebounded nicely from a three-game losing streak to win their last two outings with the last being an eight-point win over a solid St John’s Red Storm team on the road as DePaul was able to pick up a hard-fought victory behind 27 points along with eight rebounds from Femi Olujobi, who went 11-19 from the floor on the night. And despite the Red Storm outshooting DePaul in this matchup by a 47% to 44% margin, the Blue Demons were able to get to the free-throw line 28 times while converting 17 attempts on the night compared to the Red Storm converting just four of six free throws throughout the contest.

The Butler Bulldogs have lost four of their last five games, overall, as their last loss came at the hands of the Xavier Musketeers on the road as the home team was able to rally in the second half in which to outscore the Bulldogs by a 44-38 margin after going in at the half down by five en route to the slim, one point victory.

Butler Bulldogs's Latest Performance :

And while Xavier shot less than 40% on the night while allowing 47% shooting to Butler, the Musketeers were able to also get to the free-throw line throughout this contest as they converted on 19 of 25 attempts while the Bulldogs made good on 8 of 12 free throws in the loss. Xavier also outrebounded Butler in this matchup by a 33-26 margin. Paul Scruggs led the Musketeers in an all-around game as he pumped in 23 points, eight rebounds, in addition to dishing out six assists on the night while Kamar Baldwin led Butler with 18 points while dishing out seven assists as he went 6-12 from the floor for a struggling Bulldog squad.

The fact is that the Butler Bulldogs have simply been average in 2018 on both ends of the floor. While their offense shoots at a 45% clip on a nightly basis for an attack that averages over 70 points per game, the defense allows opponents to shoot 44% on the night while posting an average of 67 points per game. These numbers may certainly not be a good sign for their upcoming matchup versus the Blue Demons as they are allowing opponents to shoot just 40% from the floor while their offense, for the season, has shot 47% from the floor while averaging 77 points per game. In all, Butler will certainly be in store for yet another competitive matchup within their conference on Wednesday night as they will look to somehow reverse the trends while also getting back on track on both sides of the floor versus DePaul.

Depaul Blue Demons 's Latest Performance :

As stated, DePaul has rebounded from a three-game rough patch to where their offense average just 63 points per game to winning two in a row to where the offense has increased its output to 77 points per game. In the last outing versus the Red Storm, the Blue Demons posted 79 points while shooting just 44% from the floor along with 4 of 12 from three-point range as Olujobi led with 27 points on the night, as stated, while Paul Reed ended with a double-double with 18 points along with pulling down 10 rebounds as he went 7 – 11 from the floor for DePaul.

On the other hand, LJ Figueroa along with Justin Simon were the two 20 point scorers for St John’s in this matchup as they ended with 23 and 20 points, respectively, with Simon ending with seven assists. Nonetheless, the key to the game was DePaul’s ability to rebound the ball as well as get to the free-throw line as they  graced the free throw line over four times as much as their opponent in this matchup en route to the victory.

In all, DePaul is beginning to win games simply due to their ability to put points on the board at pivotal moments within games while relying on their defense in which two make it tough for opposing offenses to score at critical moments as well. They will certainly look to continue this type of play versus the Butler Bulldogs as they are a team that has struggled lately on both ends of the floor. Also, combine this with the fact that Butler has lost their last three road games, all together, one should certainly expect  DePaul to have a bit of success in this matchup on Wednesday night.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Look for this to be a highly competitive Big East matchup amongst Butler and DePaul on Wednesday night. On one hand, the Bulldogs will be looking to end a three-game road skid with a victory over the Blue Demons; However, look for DePaul to also defend their home court as they are winners of five of their last seven games at Wintrust Arena. Nonetheless, their last home victory versus the Seton Hall Pirates ended a two-game losing streak at home for the DePaul Blue Demons.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:   DePaul Blue Demons

My reason for the pick :

I have much more confidence that the Blue Demons will be able to get the job done on Wednesday night versus a Butler team that continues to struggle on both sides of the ball, as pointed out. Furthermore, the Blue Demons have erected themselves from a rough patch play in which to really play consistently  in recent outings and will certainly do so in this matchup as well. In all, one should certainly look for the Blue Demons to find success on the offensive end early while also limiting offensive opportunities for the Bulldogs en route to their second straight home victory along with third straight victory, overall.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

While I happen to believe that the Blue Demons will certainly put some points on the board throughout this matchup, I believe that they will limit Butler’s offense  throughout this contest as the under will indeed be the strong play. The fact is that both teams are ranked within the upper echelon of teams within the Big East conference and will be fighting tooth-and-nail in which to increase their positioning. With that being the case, look for them to lead with their defense in this contest as this has certainly allowed them to remain competitive throughout the season. In all, the total will not surpass it set limit in this instance.
