Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
George Washington Colonials vs Lasalle Explorers
The George Washington Colonials will travel to Tom Gola Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to battle the LaSalle Explorers on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time for an Atlantic 10 showdown. After winning three straight games, recently, the Explorers have fell back to mediocrity as they have lost two straight games thanks to subpar offensive performances versus defensive-minded teams such as the Virginia Commonwealth Rams and, most recently, to the Billikens of St Louis. The Billikens held the Explorers to just 41% shooting from the floor while the home team committed 15 turnovers on the night en route to LaSalle losing their fourth straight home game.
The George Washington Colonials also enter this game struggling on the offensive end as they are averaging just 61 points in their last two outings on their way to losing two straight after a matchup with the Richmond Spiders at home in their last time out. In all, while the Colonials were able to shoot just 32% of the night along with 25% from three-point range, Richmond shot well over 50% from the floor along with 40% from three-point range as Nathan Kayo along with Grant Golden led the team with 18 and 17 points, respectively, while combining for 12 rebounds in the much-needed victory for the Spiders.
George Washington Colonials's Latest Performance :
Much like LaSalle, the Colonials were outplayed in every aspect of their matchup versus the Richmond Spiders as they were outrebounded throughout the contest while getting to the free-throw line only 11 times compared to 25 for their opponent. Richmond also connected 9 three pointers on the night compared to just six for George Washington in addition to the Colonials being able to shoot 32% compared to 53% for Richmond in the loss, as stated.
Terry Nolan Jr along with Maceo Jack were the only two double-digit scorers for the Colonials of George Washington as they ended the game with 15 and 14 points, respectively, with Jack pulling down six rebounds on a night where he went just 5-14 shooting from the field. As stated, Cayo and Golden led the offensive charge for the Spiders in this contest while Jacob Gilyard along with Jake Wojcik chipped in 12 points apiece in the win as well. In all, the Colonials are allowing teams to shoot 45% from the floor on a nightly basis while they are ranked a whopping 300th in the nation in 3-point percentage allowed per game with 37%. On the offensive end, George Washington is ranked with in the 300’s in every major offensive category this season as they have scored 70 or more points in just four of their last 10 games, overall.
Lasalle Explorers 's Latest Performance :
Isiah Deas along with Jack Clark combined to go 7 of 13 from three-point range for the LaSalle Explorers to lead the team with 14 points apiece in their loss to the Billikens of St Louis as the Explorers were dominated in just about every aspect of the game aside from 3-point shooting, as they were able to connect the 9 of 25 attempts for the contest compared to just 5 of 12 attempts for the Billikens.
The Billikens certainly started quickly from the start as they were able to hit some big shots in the first half while limiting the offense for Lasalle to only 27 points at the half. After the break, the Billikens were able to cruise on the strength of 12 points apiece from Hasahn French as well as Jordan Goodwin Paul. Javon Bess also chipped in 11 points on the night as he struggled in going 2 – 11 from the floor.
LaSalle is certainly in a rough place at this point in the season. On one hand, their offense is averaging just 40% shooting from the floor on a nightly basis while their defense is allowing teams to shoot at a 46% clip per outing. Isaiah Deas continues to lead the team in scoring for the season, yet has scored in single digits in 4 of the last seven games for LaSalle as the team has struggled to put points on the board, as a result. In all, the Explorers may indeed have a bit of success versus a George Washington Colonials team that has regressed a bit on the defensive end in their last two games, as well, while their offense has got to be as terrible as it gets. With that being said, look for LaSalle to attempt to pick up just their fourth win of the season by stepping things up on the offensive end in which to pull out a all important conference victory.
How George Washington Colonials & Lasalle Explorers Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
George Washington is 9 – 7 against the spread while the OU is 8 – 7
LaSalle is 6 – 8 – 1 against the spread while the OU is 7 – 8
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Look for this to be a defensive-minded contest from start to finish as both offenses continue to struggle at this critical point in the season. On the other hand, these two squads rely heavily on their defenses in which to keep them competitive throughout games in 2018. With that being the case, one should expect a defensive-minded game to ensue amongst these two teams where the offenses will struggle throughout due to lingering inconsistencies that continue to exist within their offensive sets. Nonetheless, look for this to be an exciting yet low-scoring conference matchup.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: George Washington Colonials
My reason for the pick :
For a team in LaSalle that is having much trouble on the offensive end at this point in this season, I have little to no confidence that they will somehow put out the victory in this contest. On the other hand, while the Colonials of George Washington has lost two of their last three road games, in their most recent outing versus the Saint Joe’s Hawks, they picked up a huge 14-point win to allow for a bit of momentum entering this conference duel. Of course, the Colonials went on to lose their next two games since; However, look for them to get back on track versus a struggling LaSalle team that simply cannot put points on the board, at all, on a consistent basis. Also, look for the defense for Lasalle to stink things up, once again, on this end of the floor as well as George Washington will win their second straight road game on Wednesday night.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under
My reason for the prediction :
Normally, one would think that with two defenses that have regressed in much the way that George Washington along with LaSalle has recently, the offenses would have a field day in this contest on Wednesday night. However, I have little to no faith in these dismal offenses as I happen to believe that they will struggle, yet again, despite being matched up against below average defensive units. With that being said, look for the under to indeed be the play this contest amongst these two teams on Wednesday night as I simply do not see the offenses coming out of their present funk due to their inability to remain consistent in any way in this area.
