Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

South Florida Bulls vs Cincinnati Bearcats

The Cincinnati Bearcats return home to Fifth Third Arena for their 2nd consecutive home game where they will play host to the South Florida Bulls in an AAC clash, the opening tipoff is slated for 7:00 PM. Cincinnati isn’t ranked this year but they still look like one of the better teams in the conference as they are 3-1 in AAC play while South Florida is still rebuilding their program but look like they have improved significantly from last year.

South Florida Bulls's Latest Performance :

South Florida has been so far in the hole of the AAC over the last few years that this program has been written off but 2nd-year coach Brian Gregory looks to have gotten the Bulls to a sleeper in the conference as they have already eclipsed their season win totals over the last 6 seasons. USF was able to show how far they have come as a program in their recent road loss against one of the better teams in the conference as they took the Temple Owls to the buzzer in an 82-80 game. Sophomore forward Alexis Yetna averages a double-double with 12.8 PPG and 10.8 RPG, and he was able to have a career game against the Owls with 24 points and 9 rebounds. The double-double came from a different source in this game as junior guard Laquincy Rideau had 18 points and 10 assists, Rideau is enjoying a good season as he is averaging 13.9 PPG and 5.8 RPG. The leading scorer on the season for Gregory and company is the sophomore guard David Collins who comes into this game averaging 14.6 PPG. Collins was able to produce against the Owls as he contributed 16 points and 5 rebounds. One area that the Bulls would like to see improved moving forward is their bench play and their latest outing was an example of that as they only totaled 12 points. USF has been vastly improved on the defensive end of things this season as they rank inside the top 50 in team defense.

Cincinnati Bearcats's Latest Performance :

The Cincinnati Bearcats lost some of their top players to the NBA this past offseason but they still look like one of the better teams in the AAC as they once again have one of the best defensive units in the country. The Bearcats were able to extend their conference record to 3-1 in their recent outing as they beat the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on the road 70-65. Cincinnati has some of the best depth in the conference as they have the ability to roll out 9 guys and as we saw against Tulsa 4 different guys contributed at least 12 points or more. Junior guard Jarron Cumberland is the leading scorer on the season as he averages 16.9 PPG, and he fell just shy of that mark in their latest outing with a 14 point performance. The Bearcats presence down low is strong with junior forward Tre Scott as he is a constant threat for a double-double and he was able to record 12 points and 9 rebounds against the Golden Hurricane, Scott averages 9.4 PPG and 6.1 RPG. Mick Cronin received a big spark from their bench as senior guard Cane Broome had a team-high 16 points with 6 assists while Trevor Moore recorded 9 points and 3 rebounds. One area that Cronin would like to see improved during the remainder of AAC play is the production out of the other guys in the starting lineup and we saw that play a role against Tulsa as Justin Jenifer and Nysier Brooks were only able to combine for 4 points.

Against The Spread Selection: South Florida Bulls

My reason for the pick :

South Florida is still not valued as a threat in the AAC after their past 5 seasons but as we saw in their recent matchup against Temple they are a good team who play hard for each other from the opening tip to the buzzer. They were 10-point underdogs in their matchup against Temple and they easily covered, and I assume they will be somewhere in that range again. USF has so far been really good ATS and they are a perfect 3-0 ATS on the road which means the trends point to them keeping their good ATS season alive. USF has shown the ability to clamp up on the defensive end of things and I think they do that once against a below average Cincinnati offense which should keep this game close.

Betting trends for South Florida Bulls:

  • USF is 5-0 ATS as an underdog this season.

Betting trends for Cincinnati Bearcats:

  • Cincinnati is 1-3 ATS in AAC matchups this season.
