Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
George Mason Patriots vs UMass Minutemen
The UMass Minutemen are set to return home to the Mullins Center after playing on the road in their previous 2 outings and they will play host to the George Mason Patriots in an Atlantic 10 clash, the opening tipoff is slated for 7:00 PM. George Mason is enjoying a good season in conference play as they are currently 3-1 while UMass has struggled to find consistency which has put them at the bottom of the A-10 with a 0-3 record.
George Mason Patriots's Latest Performance :
George Mason has not made the NCAA Tournament since the 2010-2011 season when they were under Jim Larranaga but this might be their best season yet as the A-10 is up for grabs and the Patriots have a fairly strong team. The Patriots enter this matchup 3-1 in conference play with their latest win coming on the road against the Rhode Island Rams 84-67. Leading the way for George Mason was junior guard Justin Kier as he was able to record a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, Kier has been a do it all type of guy this season as he leads the team in scoring with 15 PPG as well as in rebounding with 6.6 RPG. Senior guard Otis Livingston has been the top assist guy all season long as he averages 4.5 APG while also contributing 13.3 PPG, Livingston was able to top both of those marks against the Rams with 14 points and 7 assists. Junior forward Jarred Reuter is the lone big man in the starting lineup and he was able to capitalize on a thin frontcourt of Rhode Island with 8 points and 7 rebounds. The bench has been extremely hit or miss this season but they received a solid effort against Rhode Island as freshmen guard Jordan Miller delivered 14 points. This was Miller’s first game of the season but given his production, it is unknown if the Patriots will move him into the starting lineup or keep him as a 6th man.
UMass Minutemen's Latest Performance :
UMass is still adjusting to the coaching style of 2nd-year coach Matt McCall which has led to some growing pains and there is still a ton of hope for this team moving forward as they only have 1 senior who plays a role for this team. UMass has not gotten off to the hottest start in conference play but their schedule has done them no favorites as they lost to 2 of the top 3 teams in the conference. UMass enters this game 0-3 in A-10 play with their latest loss coming on the road against the Dayton Flyers 72-67. Junior guard Luwane Pipkins may be the top guard in the league and he showed us exactly why against the Flyers as he recorded a team-high 19 points while contributing 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Pipkins has been the face of this program ever since he stepped on campus and he is playing up to expectations this season as he averages 19.4 PPG, 5.3 RPG, and 5.5 RPG. Joining Pipkins in the backcourt is sophomore Carl Pierre and he has shown flashes of scoring this season as he averages 10.6 PPG, Pierre was able to record 16 points against Dayton. The top forward for this team is the Rutgers transfer Jonathan Laurent as he averages 11.1 PPG and 4.9 RPG but he came off the bench against Dayton which may have impacted his production as he only recorded 2 points and 1 rebound in the loss. Senior forward Djery Baptiste only played in 3 games prior to the Dayton game but he played well off the bench for McCall as he recorded 10 rebounds.

Against The Spread Selection: George Mason Patriots
My reason for the pick :
George Mason looks like a threat in the A-10 as they are playing really good as of recent while UMass looks destined to finish last in the conference as they have shown no fight. George Mason has a great starting lineup that should be able to match the production of Luwane Pipkins but the difference in this one is the fact that the Patriots got back Jordan Miller. George Mason hasn’t been anything special on the offensive end of the court but they are a really good defensive unit and they have traveled well this season. George Mason has also been very good ATS on the road while the Minutemen have been really bad ATS at home. George Mason wins on the road no problem.
