Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Kansas State Wildcats vs Oklahoma Sooners
The Oklahoma Sooners are set to return home to the Lloyd Noble Center for their 2nd consecutive home game where they will play host to the Kansas State Wildcats in a Big 12 clash, the opening tipoff is slated for 7:00 PM. Oklahoma lost arguably their most important piece in program history but they still look like one of the best teams within the conference as they 20th in the country while Kansas State has a veteran-led team but have failed to find consistency through the 1st part of the season.
Kansas State Wildcats's Latest Performance :
We expected to see Kansas State towards the top of the Big 12 after they returned every player from their 2017-2018 Elite 8 run but they are currently sitting at the .500 mark as they have played in some close games to open conference play. The Wildcats were able to show their veteran leadership in their recent road win over the formerly ranked Iowa State Cyclones as they pulled out a close 58-57 victory. Leading the way for the Wildcats was their leading scorer in senior Barry Brown as he was able to record 23 points, Brown enters this matchup averaging 15.2 PPG and 4.1 RPG. Senior forward Dean Wade is arguably the best player for the Wildcats as he averages 12.4 PPG and 7.8 RPG, but he was only able to drop 2 points against Iowa State. Another guy who failed to find his stroke against the Cyclones was junior forward Xavier Snead as he was only able to record 4 points which is slightly below his season average of 10.1 PPG. Junior forward Makol Mawien was able to put together a fairly solid outing in their latest game as he recorded 7 points and 5 rebounds which is slightly above his season average of 7.1 PPG and 4.5 RPG. Kansas State is one of the weakest scoring teams in the nation but that isn’t their style of play as they rank 5th in the nation in team defense.
Oklahoma Sooners's Latest Performance :
The Oklahoma Sooners have been one of the more successful programs in the Big 12 under Lon Kruger as they have made the NCAA Tournament in 5 of the last 7 seasons, and they will once again be seeking that mark in which they should be able to achieve. The Sooners have been one of the top teams in the Big 12 through the first portion of the season as they currently rank 20th in the nation. Oklahoma was able to obtain their 2nd win of Big 12 in their recent matchup as they beat the TCU Horned Frogs at home 76-74. Junior forward Kristian Doolittle had the biggest game of his season as he was able to record a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds, Doolittle is averaging 9.2 PPG and 6.5 RPG on the season. The leading scorer on the season for Oklahoma has been senior guard Christian James as he is averaging 16.8 PPG and he is also the leading rebounder with 7.7 RPG, James was able to record 15 points and 8 rebounds against TCU. Sophomore forward Brady Manek was a part of the prized 2017 recruiting class and he is playing well for the Sooners this season as he is averaging 11.6 PPG and 7.4 RPG. The one area that the Sooners would like to see improved moving forward is their bench production and their matchup against TCU was an example of that as they only received 7 bench points.

Against The Spread Selection: Oklahoma Sooners
My reason for the pick :
Oklahoma was expected to fall off due to Trae Youn departing for the NBA but that isn’t the case as this team actually looks better than last years squad. Oklahoma has been one of the top ATS teams in the country and they are 7-0 SU at home this season while Kansas State is 1-3 SU on the road. Sure Kansas State has a top-notch defense and they will cause havoc on the Sooners but the difference in this one is the fact that Kansas State ranks 327th in the nation when it comes to scoring. Christian James will sit in the middle of the Kansas State defense and either take the jump shot or dish out the ball to the corner, both strengths of the senior. Take Oklahoma to continue winning at home.
