Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Stanford Cardinal vs Washington Huskies
The Stanford Cardinal will visit the Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle, Washington, in which to battle the Washington Huskies on Thursday night at 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time in an all-important Pac-12 showdown. The Huskies are on a high at this point as they have won five straight games including a 7 point victory on the road versus the Colorado Buffaloes in their last outing as the Huskies went up by 13 at the half while cruising to victory behind over 50% shooting from the floor while also connecting on 9 three-pointers on the night.
On the other hand, the Stanford Cardinal halted a four game losing streak is they picked up huge home win over the Arizona State Sun Devils in their last time out as they came alive on both ends of the floor in shooting 53% from the floor while blowing the game open in the second half in outscoring the visitors 45-33 en route to the victory. Oscar Da Silva along with KZ Okpala led Stanford with 21 points apiece in their first conference victory as Okpala has scored 20 or more points in four of the last five games for the Cardinal.
Stanford Cardinal's Latest Performance :
While the Stanford Cardinal were able to surpass the 80-point mark in just their third game in their last 10 outings, they certainly made it count in their last matchup versus the Arizona State Sun Devils at home as they went 32-64 from the floor as a team while making good on 9 of 23 3-point attempts on the night as Okpala and Da Silva paced the team with 21 points each, as stated, while Daejon Davis was the only other double-digit scorer with 13 points on the night for Sanford.
Luguentz Dort along with Rob Edwards had 16 and 13 points for the struggling Arizona State Sun Devils while Remy Martin finished with only eight points on the night while going 2 – 13 from the floor for the visitors as Arizona State shot only 41% from the floor while going a miserable 6-17 from the free-throw line during the contest.
In all, Stanford had its highest offensive output in their last 5 Games, total, while its defense allowed its lowest point total to opponents during this time as well. The challenging aspect of this upcoming matchup versus the Washington Huskies is that Stanford happens to be winless in their last four road games, overall, to where they allowed 90 points or more in two of those outings. It will certainly be interesting to see how their offense will respond to being defended by a Huskies unit that is ranked in the top 50 in the nation in opponent points allowed per game along with opponent field-goal percentage per outing.
Washington Huskies's Latest Performance :
Defense has certainly been the key for the Washington Huskies lately as well as throughout the season as they are currently allowing teams to put up an average of 61 points in the last five outings. As stated, each of these outings ended in victories for Washington as they certainly will look to continue their momentum, moving forward, at home, where they are winners of six straight games. In their last outing, Washington obtained big games from Jaylen Nowell along with David Crisp as they were the only two double-digit scorers with 19 and 16 points, respectively, with Crisp ending the game going 4-7 from long-range.
And aside from not being able to capitalize off 14 turnovers for the Huskies, the Colorado Buffaloes shot just 44% from the floor while converting on six 3-pointers in the loss as D’Shawn Schwartz went 4-5 in this area while leading the team with 22 points.
Washington’s offense is only posting an average of 74 points during their current five-game winning streak, however, they have certainly had an added benefit in playing alongside such a dominant defense as they will be looking to follow the same type of philosophy versus a Stanford team that has struggled at the offensive end all year as well; However, the Cardinal are coming off an 85 point output versus the Arizona State Sun Devils and will seek to feed off this type of momentum, as well.
How Stanford Cardinal & Washington Huskies Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Stanford is 8 – 7 – 1 against the spread while the OU is 8 – 7
Washington is 7-8-1 against the spread while the OU is 6 – 10
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Look for this to be an interesting Pac-12 matchup between the Stanford Cardinal along with the Washington Huskies on Thursday night. Stanford will certainly be looking to continue the play illustrated in his last outing versus Arizona State by playing much better on the road versus a Washington Huskies squad that has also been on a high lately due to its ability to consistently lock down opposing offenses. In all, one should look for this to be a very competitive and possibly low-scoring contest to where both offenses will find their fair share of issues looking to score versus defenses that allow 43% shooting from the floor, or less, for the year.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Washington Huskies
My reason for the pick :
While Stanford will certainly attempt to make a game out of this contest on Thursday night, one should certainly look for the Washington Huskies to pull away at some point due to their ability to play consistent on the defensive end. Of course, this outstanding play will lead to easier opportunities on the offensive end via perimeter transition and / or trips to the free-throw line. With an offense for the Huskies which continues to struggle scoring, at times, this can certainly assist the Huskies in gaining some momentum that they will indeed carry throughout this contest en route to a convincing conference victory.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under
My reason for the prediction :
The under has been the play in three of the last five home games for the Washington Huskies, and I expect these trends to continue in this matchup vs Stanford on Thursday as well. As stated, Washington has one of the best defensive units in the country at this point while Stanford, despite putting up 85 points versus Arizona State, continues to have a very inconsistent offense, overall. With that being the case, look for this to be a low-scoring matchup to where the total will not be surpassed due to the home team having yet another masterful performance on the defensive end.
