Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Towson Tigers vs Drexel Dragons

Two cellar teams within the CAA division will face-off amongst each other as the Towson Tigers will travel to Daskalakis Athletic Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to battle the Drexel Dragons on Thursday night at 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Dragons simply cannot gain any type of steam at this point in the season as they followed up a win versus the College of Charleston in their prior outing with a  14 point loss to the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks in their last time out. In this outing, Drexel’s offense went cold in the second half as they relinquished a two-point halftime lead while being outscored 57 – 41 in the second half en route to their second loss in three games. Troy Harper and James Butler chipped in 17 points apiece for the Dragons in the loss while the Drexel defense allowed the Seahawks to shoot a tad over 50% from the floor in the game.

On the other hand, the Tigers have had similar problems as they have lost five straight games, primarily due to their inability to  remain consistent on the offensive end. However, the Tigers went up by 10 at the half on the James Madison Dukes before the home team outscored the visitors 46-27 in the second half as they were led by Matt Lewis along with Darius Banks with 24 and 22 points, respectively, for the Dukes in the win. The road team is 8-3-1 against the spread in the last 12 meetings amongst these teams while the underdog is 11 – 5 – 1 against the spread in the last 17 meetings as well.

Towson Tigers's Latest Performance :

On the other hand, the offense for Towson  is averaging just 66 points per game on 42% shooting on the season. To provide an example as to how bad it has gotten for the Tigers, Towson  has surpassed its average for the season in just one of their last five outings, overall. They came just shy of this average in their last outing versus the James Madison Dukes as they posted 65 points on the night on 42% shooting as Brian Fobbs led the way with 19 points to leave the team while Solomon Uyaelunmo along with Tobias Howard chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively. The Dukes were also able to hit twice as many 3-pointers on the night as they connected on 8 3-pointers while also shooting 47% from the floor as the Tigers followed up a dominant first-half, to where they outscored the Dukes 38-28, with a second half to where their offense went cold at critical points while their defense certainly had their fair share of mishaps during this time as well.

Nonetheless, as stated, the Dukes won this game primarily due to their ability to get to the free-throw line as they shot 85% on 28 trips on the night while the Tigers were horrible in converting just 53% of their  13 free throws on the night en route to the loss. This has simply been the mantra for Towson throughout the season as their offense has simply not been able to assist a defense, that is only allowing opponents 43% shooting on a nightly basis, in any way in which to get a much-needed victory. Nonetheless, the Tigers may indeed have some success in this matchup vs Drexel as the Dragons are allowing 49% shooting, as stated, to opponents in 2019.

Drexel Dragons's Latest Performance :

Devontae Cacok along with Jeantal Cylla led the Seahawks in scoring versus the Drexel Dragons as they pumped in 24 and 20 points in the win as Cacok  was also able to pull down 12 rebounds as well. And aside from shooting 50% from the floor, UNC-Wilmington also was able to connect on 11 3-pointers on the night compared to 12 for the Dragons. Nonetheless, the Tigers were only able to make good on 27 of 62 field goal attempts of the night for an average of 42% as they suffered yet another damaging loss on the season. The Seahawks would also get to the free-throw line 28 times compared to 10 for Drexel while the home team also heavily outrebounded Drexel in this contest as well.

Butler and Harper led the offensive charge for the Dragons in this contest, however, it would not be enough in the end as they would only get minimal contributions from the remaining double-digit scorers in the game in Alihan Demir along with Trevor John who chipped in 13 and 11 points in the loss.  The Dragons are certainly a potentially dangerous team on the offensive end in 2019 as they are shooting a tad under 47% from the floor. Nonetheless, Drexel has a tendency to struggle from inconsistency on the offensive end as well as this was shown in their recent outings.  On the other hand, their defense also struggles as well as they are allowing opponents to average 80 points per game this season on 49% shooting. Furthermore, Drexel has allowed 80 points or more in two of their last three games, total.

How Towson Tigers & Drexel Dragons Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Towson is 5-12 ATS while the OU is 8-9

Drexel is 9-9 ATS while the OU is 11-7

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will certainly be an interesting matchup amongst these two teams as both will be vying to pick up an all-important win in which to erect themselves out of the cellar of the CAA conference. Drexel certainly enter this game with the better offense of the two as they possess playmakers that can put the ball in the hoop; However, the Tigers have the much more consistent defense in this contest as it will be interesting to see how they will perform versus a Drexel team that aas scored 79 points or more in all but one of their last five contests.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Drexel Dragons

My reason for the pick :

Despite the Dragons being 1-3 in their last four home games, the fact is that the Towson Tigers are losers of their last two road games with their average loss being by 10 points. With that being said, look for Drexel to push the pace on the offensive end in this contest while really bringing it to a defense for the Tigers that can really lock down opponents, if they have the ability to get set on the defensive end of the floor. With that being said, look for Drexel’s mistake-prone defense to neutralize an already inconsistent offense for Towson  in this contest as even versus a defense which allows 47% shooting to its opponents this year, the Tigers will not be able to score with any type of consistency en route to yet another loss, their sixth straight.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

The under has been the play in three of the last four home games for the Drexel Dragons while also being the result in two of the last three road games for the Tigers. With that being said, with the types of offenses that will be taking the floor on this night, expect Drexel to totally neutralize the low scoring offense for Towson  Thursday night while one should also look for the defense for the Tigers to make it that much harder for the offense for Drexel to locate quality looks at the rim for much of the game in what will be a very competitive yet low scoring matchup throughout.
