North Carolina Tarheels vs Miami Hurricanes
The 15th ranked North Carolina Tar Heels will travel to Watsco Center in Miami, Florida, to battle the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday afternoon for an all-important ACC battle at 12 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Miami Hurricanes continue to slump on the season as they are losers of three straight games prior to their matchup with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Nonetheless, when all was said and done, the Hurricanes came out with a much-needed victory behind a solid game by leading scorer for the season, Chris Lykes, who ended the game with 25 points while going 14-14 from the free-throw line as the Miami Hurricanes outscored the Demon Deacons 44 – 32 in the second half after going into the break with a one-point deficit.
On the other hand, the North Carolina Tar Heels rebounded from a loss to the Louisville Cardinals as they were able to pick up a win versus the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at home as North Carolina also had a rough shooting first half while going down by three at the break. Nonetheless, the Tar Heels pulled it together in the second stanza en route to outscoring Notre Dame 42 – 33 during this time while being led by Coby White with 17 points while Luke Maye chipped in 14 points while pulling down 10 rebounds in the win for North Carolina.
North Carolina Tarheels 's Latest Performance :
For the season, the North Carolina Tar Heels are averaging 87 points on 47% shooting. Nonetheless, they were coming off of a 62-point effort versus the Louisville Cardinals in their prior outing before their matchup with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at home. In the end, the North Carolina Tar Heels ended the game posting 75 points on just 39% shooting on the night. As stated, White along with Maye led the offensive charge for the Tar Heels in this contest as the team connected on nine of 21 three-pointers on the night while also going 12-20 from the free-throw line.
On the other hand, a struggling offense for Notre Dame outshot North Carolina in this contest at 41% while also converting on 10 three-pointers on the night as Prentiss Hubb along with John Mooney led the team with 18 and 16 points, respectively, in the loss. The key stats for this game was that the Fighting Irish were only able to convert 9 of 13 free throw attempts, but, the visitors were also heavily outrebounded by North Carolina as well. Furthermore, combine this with 11 turnovers for Notre Dame, and their fate was essentially sealed as the Tar Heels, as stated, pulled away in the second half of this contest due to their ability to hunker down on the defensive end while hitting critical free throws late in which to pull out the victory.
Miami Hurricanes 's Latest Performance :
The Miami Hurricanes were certainly able to ramp up their offense a bit from their recent outings as they scored 76 points versus the Wake Forest Demon Deacons while shooting 58% from the floor in addition to connecting on 11 3-pointers. As stated, Lykes led the group with 25 points in the game while Dejan Vasiljevic chipped in 14 points off the bench while the only other double digit scorer for the Hurricanes happened to be Ebuka Izundu who finished with 11 points along with 11 rebounds.
Defensively, Miami held a dismal Wake Forest offense to just 34% shooting from the field while connecting on just seven of 33 attempts from three-point range as Chaundee Brown went 2-5 from long-range while leading the team with 22 points. As an aside, Brandon Childress along with Jaylen Hoard had horrible shooting nights as they went a combined 5 of 24 from the field while ending with 11 and 6 points, total. And despite Miami committing 15 turnovers on the night, they were able to not only outrebound the visitors in this contest, but, were also allowed to grace the free throw line 23 times while converting on 83% of their attempts compared to the Demon Deacons only finding the free-throw line just nine times in the contest.
Of course, this was a much-needed victory for the Miami Hurricanes as they were starting to slump terribly while now finding themselves three slots from the cellar of the division within the Atlantic Coast Conference. Nonetheless, they will seek to build from the momentum of this win versus the Demon Deacons while preparing for a matchup versus a North Carolina Tar Heels team that is currently ranked fourth within the conference while winning their last two road games as their offense averaged eighty seven points in these wins vs the North Carolina State Wolfpack along with the Pittsburgh Panthers.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Look for this to be a very interesting matchup amongst these two teams that will certainly be fighting tooth-and-nail in which to pick up a conference victory on Saturday afternoon. The Tar Heels will be looking to win their second straight game after a huge setback at home versus the Louisville Cardinals, as pointed out. On the other hand, the Miami Hurricanes will certainly be looking to continue their momentum as they will be looking to erect themselves from a rough patch of play as they remain to be losers of three of their last four games, despite their last victory over Wake Forest.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: North Carolina Tar Heels
My reason for the pick :
While Miami should be given much credit in fighting back from a two point deficit to an inconsistent Wake Forest team in which to outscore them heavily in the second half and pick up a victory, the fact remains that North Carolina is simply a much better team at this point in the season and this will be illustrated on Saturday afternoon as the Tar Heels will win their second straight victory. Of course, with the defenses that will be taking the floor on Saturday, one should certainly expect a very competitive and low scoring contest amongst these two teams; However, the road team will hit critical baskets down the stretch in which to pull away from Miami late in the game to pick up the win.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under
My reason for the prediction :
I will back the under in this contest as it has been the result in the majority of games for both squads recently and I expect these trends to continue on Saturday as well. Again, Miami has been up and down on the offensive end all year long. Also, despite North Carolina averaging well over 80 points per game this season, they have struggled as well during their conference slate. It is for this reason that the under will indeed be the strong play in this instance amongst two teams that boasts solid defenses that will take center stage on Saturday in an all-important ACC battle.
