Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Pittsburgh Panthers vs Syracuse Orange

The Pittsburgh Panthers will travel to the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, New York, to battle the Syracuse Orange on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. Eastern Standard Time in an ACC showdown.  The Syracuse Orange certainly atoned for a recent loss to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets by picking up a huge overtime win versus the Duke Blue Devils in their last time out as they were able to catch the Blue Devils in overtime by 10-6 margin in picking up a victory in what was a close game throughout. Tyus Battle had a monster game for Syracuse in this contest is he ended with 32 points, four rebounds, along with four assists while Elijah Hughes also pumped in 22 points while pulling down five rebounds in the contest as well.

On the other hand, the Panthers of Pittsburgh have  been exchanging wins for losses lately as they atone for a defeat at the hands of the North Carolina State Wolfpack on the road by picking up a victory versus the Florida State Seminoles at home in their last outing as the Panthers pulled away in the second half by outscoring the visitors by 11 points as Trey McGowens was the player of the game as he ended with 32 points while going 18-19 from the free throw line in which to provide a much-needed lift for a dismal Panthers offense. On the other hand, both teams shot 34% from the floor while the Panthers graced the free throw line 47 times compared to just 26 for the Seminoles.

Pittsburgh Panthers 's Latest Performance :

While the offense for the Panthers struggled throughout the season, it was their defense that was able to ensure that they remained competitive throughout contests. On the other hand, recently, the offense for the Pitt Panthers have increased their offensive production as they are averaging 83 points in their recent wins as they have won sixth of eight games, overall. On the  other hand, it’s defense, which has been the tip of the spear in their success in their 2018-19 campaign, have struggled lately in allowing teams to score 80 or more points in two of their last three outings. Of course, this is very uncharacteristic for a squad that has only allowed opponents to shoot at a 38% clip on a nightly basis this season.

They certainly return to form versus the Florida State Seminoles at home in their last matchup as they allowed well under 40% shooting for the visitors while permitting them to connect on just 9% of their 3-point attempts as Trent Forrest led the offense with 19 points while pulling down nine rebounds on a night where he went 4-13 from the floor. On the other hand, Trey McGowens along with Xavier Johnson led the Panthers in scoring with 30 and 18 points, respectively, as McGowan’s went only 5-12 from the floor, yet made good on 18 of 19 free throws for the contest while collecting five steals as well. Nonetheless, McGowens along with Johnson turned the ball over frequently as they combined for 10 for the game.

The Panthers also shot 46 free throws on the night compared to 27 for Florida State as they rolled to victory in this  all important ACC matchup. Pittsburgh will certainly look for this momentum to translate into this matchup versus a Syracuse squad that has also gained their fair share of momentum throughout the season. On the other hand, the Panthers are losers in their last two road games, overall, while the Syracuse Orange are winners of three of their last four games at the Carrier Dome as opponents are averaging just 63 points during this time.

Syracuse Orange's Latest Performance :

Syracuse has certainly had their aggressive defense in which to rely on in which to keep them competitive earlier in the season as their offense continues to struggle. In fact, the offense for Syracuse continues to average just 71 points per game on 41% shooting from the floor. Nonetheless, they have since racked up a huge amount of momentum while continuing to rise within the Atlantic Coast Conference due to their ability to consistently perform on the defensive end of the floor while the offense, led by Tyus Battle, has become accustomed to hitting critical shots within pivotal moments of games in which to pull out victories.

In a close game throughout versus the Duke Blue Devils, the Syracuse Orange were able to shoot 43% while holding the Blue Devils to a dismal 38% shooting on the night as they connected on 11 3-pointers compared to only four for Duke in a much-needed conference victory. And despite turning the ball over 14 times in addition to being heavily outrebounded by the Blue Devils, Syracuse was able to get 32 points from Battle in the contest while Elijah Hughes also pumped in 20 points for a  Syracuse team that now occupies the sixth slot with in the ACC.

Duke’s one-two punch of Zion Williamson along with RJ Barrett led Duke’s offense in this contest as Williamson recorded 35 points on the night while pulling down 10 rebounds. On the other hand, Barrett ended the game with 23 points while pulling down 16 rebounds in defeat for Duke, who continues to reside in  second place within the conference. And while the offense for Syracuse was able to post 95 points in the overtime victory over Duke, this was their highest offensive output in their last ten games. On the other hand, the 91 points allowed by the defense for the Orange was also very uncharacteristic as well.  However, Syracuse will certainly like to continue this momentum in which to dispose of a Pittsburgh squad that has certainly been difficult to figure out lately, on both ends of the floor.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Look for this matchup amongst the Syracuse Orange and the Pittsburgh Panthers to be a defensive-minded contest from start to finish. In other words, both teams will be looking to assert themselves early and often on the defensive end in which two gain an advantage on two offenses that, for the most part, continue to struggle on the season due to various inconsistencies. With that being said, look for this to be an exciting match-up throughout to where one offense will certainly have to convert on critical possessions late in the game in which to pull out a much-needed victory.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:   Syracuse Orange

My reason for the pick :

I will back Syracuse in this contest as they have been very dominant at home, particularly on the defensive end. With that being said, look for them to get the better of an offense for the Panthers that have awakened lately as it relates to total offensive output, but, continues to have problems with consistency as well as mental mishaps as it relates to turning the ball over.  It is for this reason that Syracuse will allow their defensive pressure to ensure easier, more efficient baskets on the offensive end en route to picking up a slim victory over a defensive-minded squad for Pittsburgh.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

Considering the defenses that will be taking the floor on Saturday afternoon in this contest, I will certainly back the under as I happen to believe that both offenses will be neutralized throughout much of the contest, thus making this a low-scoring and competitive matchup throughout. As stated, Syracuse will come up with some critical baskets late in the game in which to seal a slim victory; However, look for Pittsburgh to keep this game tight due to their ability to play defense as well along with their  ability to hit critical shots.

Betting trends for Pittsburgh Panthers :

  • The under is 7-3 in Panthers last 10 games

Betting trends for Syracuse Orange:
