Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Virginia Cavaliers vs Duke Blue Devils
The Duke Blue Devils are set to return home to Cameron Indoor Stadium for their 2nd consecutive home game and they will play host to the Virginia Cavaliers in an ACC clash, the opening tipoff is slated for 6:00 PM. Viringia is currently the 4th ranked team in the nation and 1 of 2 undefeated teams left while Duke is coming off an upset loss at home and suffered some injuries in the process.
Virginia Cavaliers's Latest Performance :
Virginia might be the most overlooked team in the country due to their early loss last season in the NCAA Tournament but that may have only fueled the fire for this team as they are playing at a high level right now as they are 16-0. Virginia was able to pick up a huge win in their recent ACC clash as they beat the 9th ranked Virginia Tech Hokies 81-59. De’Andre Hunter flirted with the NBA this past offseason and we have been seeing exactly why as of recent as he recorded 21 points and 5 rebounds in the win, Hunter enters this game averaging 14.4 PPG and 5.3 RPG. Junior guard Ty Jermone runs the offense and he showed his abilities against the Hokies as he recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, but this should come to the surprise of no Cavalier fan as the New York native is averaging 13.2 PPG and 4.9 APG. The leading scorer on the season for Virginia is junior guard Kyle Guy as he averages 15.3 PPG, and he was able to flirt around that mark in their recent clash as he contributed 15 points and 5 rebounds. Tony Bennett has a solid rotation of 3 bench players who give valuable minutes and we saw that on display with Kihei Clark, Braxton Key, and Jay Huff combined for 23 points. Virginia might not play the prettiest style of basketball as they are the #1 ranked defense in the country but what makes this team different is their ability to score as they have cracked 80 points this season 4 different times.
Duke Blue Devils's Latest Performance :
The Duke Blue Devils were penciled in as the favorite to win the NCAA championship after their amazing start to the season but they have endured some injuries down the stretch of ACC play which has shown their flaws. Duke had a close call on the road against Florida State but they finally broke through with a loss against Syracuse 95-91. Cam Reddish sat out against the Orange with an illness which was a big hit to this team as the freshmen average 13.3 PPG. PG Tre Jones is arguably the most important player to the Blue Devils as he gets the offense running and plays stellar defense but he was injured in the 1st half and will be out for some time, Jones averages 8.1 PPG and APG. This left the Blue Devils looking for answers from their other two amazing freshmen in Zion Williamson and R.J. Barrett. Both guys were able to record a double-double in the absence of their teammates as Williamson recorded 35 points and 10 rebounds while Barrett pitched in 23 points, 16 rebounds, and 9 assists. Both of these highly ranked freshmen are important pieces to this team as Barrett leads the team in scoring with 23.4 PPG and 6.9 RPG but Williamson is just behind him with 21.2 PPG and 9.4 RPG. The Blue Devils reverted to giving backup guard Alex O’Connell some valuable minutes off the bench and he delivered a career-high 16 points, he will be called on for the remainder of the Tre Jones injury to fill in and execute.

Against The Spread Selection: Virginia Cavaliers
My reason for the pick :
A lot of people might be on Duke because they are at home and still have the #1-2 NBA draft picks on their roster but if you watched any of the Syracuse game you would know this team looked way different without a PG. Virignia has the #1 defense in the nation as they are a pesky bunch who likes to force turnovers and if Duke doesn’t have a true PG on the top of their offense I smell trouble. Virignia has a bunch of veterans on their team who won’t be intimidated by the loud crowd of Duke and they will continue to force the dynamic freshmen of Duke into misktakes. Virginia is hungry to prove that they belong in the elite category and with Duke losing earlier in the week they have a chance to move into the #1 spot with a win here. Virginia is also stellar ATS, take the Cavlaiers on the road.
