Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Wake Forest Demon Deacons vs Virginia Tech Hokies

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons will travel to Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, Virginia, to battle the seventh-ranked Virginia Tech Hokies on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. Eastern Standard Time for an  all important ACC battle. The Virginia Tech offense has slowed down a bit recently as they certainly took a step back in their last outing versus the Virginia Cavaliers as they were able to put up just 59 points on just 43% shooting from the floor. On the other hand, the defense for Virginia Tech was awful as they allowed well over  50% shooting to an offense for the Cavaliers that struggles, more often than not, on a nightly basis.

On the other hand, Wake Forest was able to halt an extended losing streak of their own, primarily due to their defensive efforts, as they allowed the Wolfpack to shoot well under 40% for the night well the offense shot 45% from the floor as Jaylen Hoard along with Brandon Childress led the team with 16 and 10 points, respectively, in the much-needed conference victory.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons's Latest Performance :

As stated, Hoard along with  Childress paced the offensive attack for Wake Forest in their last outing versus the Wolfpack at home as the defense was able to clamp down on the offense for NC State throughout in allowing just 37% shooting from the floor along with connecting on 6 of 29 3-point attempts. Torin Dorn along with CJ Bryce paced the offense for the Wolfpack in scoring 18 along with 17 points; However, Free throws  were certainly the key stat in this win for Wake Forest as they converted 82% of 28 free throw attempts on the night while NC State was only able to get to the free-throw line a total of nine times for the contest.

In all, the Demon Deacons are winners of just two of their last seven games, overall, as they have not been able to obtain any type of momentum on a consistent basis throughout the season. Nonetheless, they will now focus on taming a Virginia Tech squad that has regressed a bit on the offensive end lately while their defense is also coming off an outing to where they were destroyed by a struggling Virginia offense.

Virginia Tech Hokies's Latest Performance :

Virginia Tech continues to shoot 49% from the floor on the season, yet, enter this matchup with the Virginia Cavaliers shooting horribly in their prior outing versus a defensive-minded Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets squad. They certainly seemed to have a carryover effect from this contest as the Virginia Cavaliers totally neutralized them from start to finish as Hokies were only able to post 22 points in the first half while allowing the Hokies to score twice as many points at the break. For the game, the Cavaliers outplayed Virginia Tech in every way as they shot a tad over 58% from the floor on the night while connecting on 13 3-pointers as opposed to 38% shooting for Virginia Tech.

DeAndre Hunter along with Kyle guy led Virginia with 15 and 14 points in the win for the Cavaliers while Nickeil Alexander-Walker along with Ahmad Hill led Virginia Tech with 19 and 14 points, respectively, as they each struggled from the floor on the night. In all, there was certainly not many positives that Virginia Tech could take from this matchup as they were simply outplayed from the start en route to a potentially deflating loss.

They may indeed struggle in this contest as well vs. a Wake Forest team that gained a bit of momentum at home in their last contest with a much-needed victory over the  North Carolina State Wolfpack. And while their offense was certainly not impressive, the defense for the Demon Deacon certainly stepped up in allowing just 67 points to a dangerous offensive squad for the Wolfpack.

How Wake Forest Demon Deacons & Virginia Tech Hokies Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Wake Forest is 7-9 ATS while the OU is  6 – 10

Virginia Tech is 9 – 6 ATS while the OU is  6-8

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Look for this to be a huge test for the Virginia Tech Hokies as they will battle a Wake Forest team that will likely be coming into this matchup with a bit of confidence after picking up a win over the Wolfpack in their last outing. Of course, the high scoring offense for Virginia Tech is coming off two less-than-stellar outings as they are averaging just 55 points and their last two outings, overall. Look for the Hokies to attempt to get their offense  going early in this contest as they will push the pace in which to gain easy buckets in transition and / or get to the free-throw line. On the other hand, Wake Forest will look to build from their defensive performance versus a dangerous Wolfpack squad while attempting to neutralize an offense for Virginia Tech that has been stifled recently by tough, aggressive defenses.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Virginia Tech Hokies

My reason for the pick :

While I happen to believe that Wake Forest will certainly bring a healthy amount of focus and intensity for this matchup versus the Hokies on Saturday, the fact remains that the Demon Deacons happen  to be losers of their last four road games, overall. On the other hand, Virginia Tech has been dominant at home recently as they are winners of six straight and will certainly be looking to get back into the win column after a potentially deflating loss versus Virginia, as stated. In all, look for Virginia to get back on track on both ends of the floor as they will eventually pick up a convincing victory over Wake Forest team that picked up a huge victory in their last outing, yet remains to be a very inconsistent team on both ends of the floor.

Totals Selection: Pick: Over

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the over in this matchup as I happen to believe that Virginia Tech will come out of its offensive funk versus a Wake Forest team that continue to allow opponents to shoot 45% from the floor on a nightly basis. Also, combine this with the fact that the Demon Deacons have allowed 76 points or more in three of their last four outings, one has to certainly conclude that the over will certainly be the strong play in this contest, particularly when considering Virginia Tech will be chomping at the bit in which to come out of their offensive funk,  by any means necessary.
