Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Marist Red Foxes vs Manhattan Jaspers
The Manhattan Jaspers are set to return home to Draddy Gymnasium after playing 4 consecutive road games and they will play host to the Marist Red Foxes in a MAAC clash, the opening tipoff is slated for 7:00 PM. Manhattan and Marist have both struggled through the early portion of their conference slate as the Jaspers are 2-3 while the Red Foxes are 1-3.
Marist Red Foxes's Latest Performance :
Marist is not a winning program by any means as they have not made the NCAA Tournament since 1987 or endure a winning season since 2007-2008, and not much looks different this year for the Red Foxes as they sit towards the bottom of the MAAC. Marist is trying to break a recent losing streak which includes a loss to the Saint Peter’s Peacocks 72-63. Leading the way for the Red Foxes was no other than senior guard Brian Parker as he recorded 17 points which is slightly above his season average of 15.1 PPG, Parker is also the top assist man for the Red Foxes as he enters this game averaging 3.8 APG. The leading rebounder for the Red Foxes is senior forward Isaiah Lamb who comes into this game averaging 5.1 RPG as well as 8.6 PPG but he was unable to get going against the Peacocks as he was held to 4 points and 1 rebound. Marist has shown the ability to squeeze valuable minutes out of their bench as the 2nd unit recorded 24 points against Saint Peter’s. Sophomore guard Austin Williams lead the way off the bench for the Red Foxes as he contributed 8 points and 4 rebounds which is well above his season average of 4.4 PPG and 2.4 RPG. Marist would like to see more production from their offense as a whole as they currently rank 306th in the nation in team scoring while their defense isn’t anything spectacular as they rank 158th.
Manhattan Jaspers's Latest Performance :
Manhattan has not had a winning season since their 2015 NCAA Tournament appearance and that streak doesn’t look like it will change anytime soon as they come into this matchup with a 4-13 record. Manhattan was able to pick up one of those wins in a recent MAAC game against the Saint Peter’s Peacocks as the Jaspers won 58-56. The one area that Manhattan has lacked this season is a go-to scorer as they currently don’t have anyone who averages more than 9 PPG and to make things worse the Jaspers ranks 2nd to last in the nation in team scoring which is good for 352nd. Manhattan does try to use their depth to their advantage as they play anywhere from 9 to 11 guys a game. In the win over Saint Peter’s Manhattan turned to freshmen forward Warren Williams to lead the way as he was able to record 15 points and 6 rebounds, Williams is the top scorer for the Jaspers as he enters this game averaging 8.1 PPG and 3.8 RPG. Joining Williams down low is the junior from Syracuse in Tyler Reynolds and he saw the most minutes against the Peacocks as he recorded 9 points and 4 rebounds in over 31 minutes of playing time. The top contributor off the bench for the Jaspers is senior guard Thomas Capuano and he showed that in their latest outing with 9 points and 4 assists, Reynolds averages 7 PPG which is good for 2nd best on the team.

Against The Spread Selection: Manhattan Jaspers
My reason for the pick :
I am backing the Jaspers at home in this game as I think they are a better overall team as well as have a stellar defense that will have no problems stopping a bad offense. Manhattan may lack a true scorer this season but that has led to an equal output from not only their starters but their bench too. Manhattan ranks 40th in the nation in keeping opponents off the scoreboard while Marist ranks 306th in scoring, this will cause major problems for the Red Foxes. Marist is 2-8 on the road this season and it won’t get much easier in this one, take the Jaspers.
