Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Nebraska Cornhuskers vs Rutgers Scarlett Knights

A Nebraska team that was humbled in their last matchup in suffering a defeat to the Michigan State Spartans will travel to Rutgers Athletic Center in Piscataway, New Jersey, in which to battle another struggling team in the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Monday night at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time for an all-important Big Ten showdown. Rutgers  enter this game having lost four of their last five games, overall, along with three straight as they fell to the Northwestern Wildcats at home in their last outing as their defense held the Wildcats to just 39% shooting from the floor on the night. Nonetheless, Rutgers offense was dismal from the perimeter, yet again, in shooting just 38% while making good on just four 3-pointers on the night as Montez Mathis led the team with 16 points in the losing effort while going 5-10 from the floor.

On the other hand, the  Nebraska Cornhuskers also ended a winning streak of their own as they fell to the Michigan State Spartans at home with the Cornhuskers not being able to capitalize off 14 turnovers for the Spartans in the contest while also doing themselves no favors by shooting just 32% from the floor en route to the conference loss.

Nebraska Cornhuskers's Latest Performance :

The Cornhuskers simply could not turn the corner versus a solid Michigan State team at home in their last time out as the defense did its part in allowing just 43% shooting on the night for the Spartans. On the other hand, the offense simply could not put the ball in the basket as the Cornhuskers shot 32% from the floor in the night while connecting on just five of 26 three-point attempts as James Palmer Jr led the team with 24 points while Isaac Copeland chipped in 14 points in the loss.

On the other hand, Cassius Winston was the man of the night for Michigan State as he powered in 29 points to lead the offensive charge for the Spartans. For the season, Nebraska is averaging 78 points per game on 47% shooting. Nonetheless, in their last two outings, they have averaged just 64 points per game and  are really in need of a much better outing versus a struggling Rutgers Scarlet Knights squad on Monday night. Unfortunately for Nebraska, they are losers of three of the last four road games, overall, as each lost was by an average of 9 points. Yet, in their last outing on the road versus the Indiana Hoosiers, Nebraska fell by 15 points in a loss where they struggled, yet again, mightily from the perimeter.

Rutgers Scarlett Knights's Latest Performance :

It is a mystery as to what happened to the Rutgers offense in recent games as they are losers of three straight while now themselves near the cellar of the Big Ten conference standings at this point in the season. In other words, the Scarlet Knights have averaged just 59 points in their last three outings as they put up just 57 points versus the Northwestern Wildcats on 38% shooting in addition to going only 4-18 from long range. Montez Mathis along with Geo Baker led Rutgers in scoring with 16 and 12 points, respectively, as Rutgers could not capitalize on 14 turnovers for Northwestern throughout the contest while shooting horribly from the free-throw line while also not doing themselves any favors in shooting just 60% from the free throw line.

And while the defense certainly showed up for this contest in allowing just 38% shooting for Northwestern, the Wildcats not only got 17 points from Derek Pardon, but also received a huge lift off the  bench by Ryan Taylor who ended the game with 14 points while also finishing 4 – 9 from 3-point range in the win.

In all, while Rutgers has had problems on the offensive end all season long, their defense has been their saving grace in allowing teams to average under 60 points per game on 41% shooting. Unfortunately for the Scarlet Knights, the defense has even struggled recently as well as they have allowed 80 or more points to their opponents in two of their last three outings.

Nonetheless, they may indeed have success versus a Nebraska team that also does not score many points, but, heavily relies on his defense in which to limit offensive opportunities for its opponents while remaining competitive within games. On the other hand, the offense may have slim pickings, yet again, as Nebraska’s defense ranks as one of the best in the nation at this point.

How Nebraska Cornhuskers & Rutgers Scarlett Knights Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Nebraska is 11 – 5 – 1 ATS while the OU is 7-9

Rutgers is 7 – 10 ATS while the OU is  9 – 8

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Look for this to be a very interesting Big Ten matchup amongst these two squads on Monday night as the Rutgers Scarlet Knights will be attempting to come out of their offensive funk versus a Nebraska team that is very solid on the defensive end. On the other hand, Nebraska may indeed run into their fair share of issues versus a Rutgers defense that  allow opponents to shoot just 42% from the floor, despite being a shaky unit in recent outings.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Nebraska Cornhuskers

My reason for the pick :

Look for Nebraska to get back on the winning track in this contest versus a Rutgers team that will struggle in this contest as they have done for the majority of the season. Of course, the Cornhuskers will not put up a bunch of points, yet will obtain and maintain a lead throughout while relying on their defense in which to wear down their opponent. As stated, the Cornhuskers will limit quality looks at the basket for Rutgers throughout the game while pulling away from them at some point in what will be a convincing win.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

The under has been the play in three of the last five home games for the Scarlet Knights while also being the play in the last two games for Nebraska. With the way these offenses have performed lately as well as throughout the season, along with the overall defensive prowess from both of these squads, I will back tthe under in this instance as I really do not see Rutgers putting many points on the board  throughout this contest. On the other hand, Nebraska will score  just enough in which to pick up the hard-fought victory in what will be a low-scoring and competitive contest.

Betting trends for Nebraska Cornhuskers:
