Robert Morris Colonials vs Central Connecticut Blue Devils
The Central Connecticut Blue Devils are set to return home to the William H. Detrick Gymnasium for their 2nd consecutive home game and they will play host to the Robert Morris Colonials in a Northeast Conference clash, the opening tipoff is slated for 3:30 PM. Robert Morris has recovered from a tough non-conference slate as they are 3-1 in NEC play while Central Connecticut sits middle of the pack with a 2-2 conference record.
Robert Morris Colonials's Latest Performance :
Robert Morris started the 2018-2019 season off with games against USC, Purdue, and Louisville but these blowout losses have only prepared this team for the NEC slate where they are 3-1-which is good enough for 1st place. Robert Morris comes into this game looking to prevent a losing streak as they lost to the LIU-Brooklyn Blackbirds 80-73. Leading the way for the Colonials in this one was no other than senior guard Josh Williams as he recorded 20 points, Williams is the leading scorer on the season as he is averaging 14.9 PPG. Sophomore forward Charles Bain was able to have a solid outing down low as he recorded 17 points and 4 rebounds, Bain enters this game averaging 10.2 PPG and 4.2 RPG. Sophomore guard Jon Williams is the top assist man for the Colonials as he comes into this game averaging 4.1 APG and 5.3 PPG, and he flirted right around that mark in their latest outing with 3 points and 4 assists. Senior forward Malik Petteway comes off the bench for the Colonials but he is still the 2nd leading scorer as he averages 10.9 PPG as well as the leading rebounder with 5.5 RPG. The bench is one of the strong suits for Robert Morris and we saw that on display against LIU-Brooklyn as they totaled 26 bench points. Robert Morris has a fairly good defense as they rank inside the top 100 in D1 basketball for points allowed.
Central Connecticut Blue Devils's Latest Performance :
Central Connecticut is not a basketball powerhouse by any means but they have started to turn things around under 3rd-year coach Donyell Marshall as they have already won more games this season than they did in the 2014-2016 seasons. Central Connecticut was able to win a recent road clash against the bottom feeder of the NEC as they won 77-68 against the Mount St. Mary Mountaineers. Senior forward Tyler Kohl has been the clear cut go-to option for this team this season as he leads the team in PPG with 18.5, RPG with 6.6, as well as in APG with 4.6. Kohl flirted with a triple-double in their recent clash with Mount St. Mary as the 6’5 forward recorded 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists. Kohl wasn’t the only one who gave the Blue Devils production in this matchup as senior center Deion Bute had his best game of the season as he recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, Bute is averaging 8.6 PPG and 5.1 RPG. Freshmen guard Ian Krishnan is the top guy in the backcourt as he averages 13.3 PPG and he was able to contribute nicely in the win over Mount St. Mary with 13 points and 6 rebounds. The Blue Devils also have some solid production coming off their bench as junior forward Joe Hugley is the 3rd leading scorer on the team averaging 12 PPG, and he was able to crack that mark in their recent game against Mount St. Mary with 12 points and 5 rebounds.

Against The Spread Selection: Robert Morris Colonials
My reason for the pick :
Their overall records may be the same but as you see in the non-conference slate Robert Morris played some of the top programs in the nation which Central Connecticut did not. I like what Robert Morris has going especially in NEC play as they are playing some of the best defense in the conference and I think they will make it their game plan to shut down the leading scorer for the Blue Devils in Tyler Kohl. The Colonials don’t play a single freshman which tells me this is a veteran-led team that is hungry to make some noise in a wide-open conference. Robert Morris looks like they could be a contender in the conference come March and I think they show that on the road in this one with a big-time win. Take the Colonials to win.
