Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Virginia Tech Hokies vs North Carolina Tarheels
In an interesting ACC matchup, the 7th-ranked Virginia Tech Hokies will travel to the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, to battle the 15th ranked North Carolina Tar Heels in a Monday night showdown at 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The North Carolina Tar Heels have not taken the floor since prevailing over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at home in their last outing as their offense was able to get back on track in posting 75 points in the contest while allowing just 69 points on 41% shooting from the floor for the Fighting Irish. Coby White led the team with 14 points while Luke Maye also chipped in 14 points while in addition to pulling down 10 rebounds in a much-needed victory for North Carolina.
On the other hand, the Virginia Tech Hokies were humbled mightily by the Virginia Cavaliers in their last matchup as their high scoring offense was only able to connect on 43% of their shots for the game while a solid defense for the Hokies was torched throughout the contest as Virginia was able to shoot 50% or better both from the perimeter as well as from long-range on the night. Finally, the 81 points allowed by Virginia Tech to Virginia in this contest was their highest offensive output for their opponents in their last 10 games.
Virginia Tech Hokies's Latest Performance :
The Virginia Tech Hokies are also beginning to become a jekyll-and-hyde team in their own right as they atoned for a terrible loss to the Virginia Cavaliers in their prior outing in which to take out the Wake Forest Demon Deacons at home by 16 points. In this outing, their offense jumped on top of the Demon Deacons from the start as they recorded 42 points for the first half while going up by 10 at the break. Nonetheless, the Hokies were able to cruise to victory behind 11 three pointers along with 53% shooting from the floor as Nickeil Alexander-Walker led the team with 24 points while Ty Outlaw also chipped in fourteen points for Virginia Tech. Ahmad Hill along with Kerry Blackshear jr. chipped in 12 and 11 points, as well.
Virginia Tech’s defense allowed just 32% shooting for Wake Forest in the contest as the home team was very much in control throughout the contest. Virginia Tech now looks to take this momentum into yet another ACC matchup with a North Carolina team that enters this matchup with tons of momentum after their last outing. And while the Hokies have scored the 80 or more points in six of their last seven home games, they have averaged just 54 points in their last two road games as they squeaked out a slim victory versus Georgia Tech while being mauled by the Virginia Cavaliers in their last road outing. This will be their first meeting versus the Tar Heels all year, however, was able to pick up a victory versus North Carolina in their last outing in January of 2018.
North Carolina Tarheels's Latest Performance :
The Tar Heels picked up their third straight road win in their last outing versus the Miami Hurricanes as North Carolina was able to pull away late in the second half, despite allowing 49% shooting from the floor to the Hurricanes for the night, due to the fact that they were able to destroy Miami on the offensive end in shooting 55% from the floor for the contest as Cameron Johnson, Kenny Williams, along with Coby White finished with 22, 16, and 15 points respectively. Luke Maye chipped in 14 points while pulling down nine rebounds as well in the win for the Tar Heels as the visitors scored 85 points or more in their last three road games.
The defense has also been solid on the road during this time as they are allowing opponents to score an average of 73 points. Nonetheless, while the offense has put up big numbers on the road for North Carolina recently, they have been less inclined to do so at Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill, recently. In other words, they are only putting up an average of 69 points at home in their last three outing, which also included only a 52-point output in a blowout loss to the Louisville Cardinals.
Despite this, North Carolina has won five of their last six home games and will certainly be looking to put in an outstanding performance versus a potentially vulnerable Virginia Tech team on Monday night. It will be important to know that Luke Maye has recorded a double-double in three of the last five games for the Tar Heels as he missed out on a double-double by just one rebound in his last outing versus the hurricanes.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Look for this to be a very exciting matchup amongst these two teams on Monday night. One can certainly expect for this to be an up-and-down affair as the Hokies are known to give up many more points on the road as opposed to being at home. On the other hand, North Carolina has not been as productive on the offensive end at home recent, either. With that being said, expect both squads to press the issue issue due to both defenses being dangerous when they are able to get on the defensive end. It is for this reason that both North Carolina and Virginia Tech will look to push the ball consistently throughout this contest in which to keep both defenses on his heels.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: North Carolina Tar Heels
My reason for the pick :
Virginia Tech has simply been another team on the road as opposed to being at home this season. With that being said, I will back the North Carolina Tar Heels in this contest as while their scoring has a tendency to taper off at home this season, they remain to be a team that will enter this matchup with huge amounts of confidence and momentum, as stated. Look for them to make some critical buckets down the stretch while their defense will neutralize a high-scoring offense for Virginia Tech that struggles when playing away from home.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under
My reason for the prediction :
I will back the under in this instance as both defenses will make their presence felt throughout the contest. Furthermore, when one considers the fact that both teams have struggled on the road and at home, the under the most certainly be the strong play. In all, I foresee a very competitive and low scoring contest on Monday night amongst these teams throughout.
