Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
North Alabama Lions vs Liberty Flames
The Liberty Flames are set to return home to the Vines Center for their 2nd consecutive home game where they will play host to the North Alabama Lions in an Atlantic Sun conference clash, the opening tipoff is slated for 7:00 PM. Liberty played very good in their non-conference slate and have only elevated their play during A-Sun play as they are a perfect 5-0 while North Alabama has been just as good in conference play with a 4-1 record.
North Alabama Lions's Latest Performance :
This may be North Alabama’s first season playing division 1 basketball but they have played well in Atlantic Sun play during the first portion of the slate as they enter this game with a 4-1 record. The Lions come into this game on a 4 game win streak after they were able to beat the Stetson Hatters at home 63-62. Freshmen forward Emanuel Littles was able to have the best game of his young career as he recorded a double-double with 11 points and 18 rebounds. This may have been the necessary coming out party for the Alabama native as he enters this game only averaging 3.6 PPG and 8 RPG. The top guy for the Lions all season has been freshmen guard Jamari Blackmon as he averages 15.7 PPG, but he was unable to crack that mark against the Hatters as he only recorded 8 points and 6 rebounds. The top scoring performance in their latest game came from senior guard Kendarius Smith as he was able to drop 15 points and 5 rebounds in the win, Smith enters this game averaging 12.3 PPG. The Lion’s don’t have too deep of a bench but they were able to receive a big outing from sophomore guard Tavon King as he recorded 14 points against Stetson. North Alabama would like to see a better performance from their scoring as a whole as they enter this game ranked 324th in the nation in team scoring as they only average 66 PPG.
Liberty Flames's Latest Performance :
The switch to the Atlantic Sun conference has looked like the right move for the Liberty Flames as they are currently 5-0 in conference play and clearly look like the favorite to win the tournament come the end of the season. Liberty was able to extend their win streak to 6 games after a recent win at home against the UNF Ospreys 70-64. Liberty may not be as powerful of an offensive team but they have shown scoring depth throughout the season as they currently have 4 different guys averaging at least 10+ PPG. The top guy all season for the Flames has been junior forward Scottie James as he averages 12.9 PPG and 8.6 RPG, and he was able to have a great game against UNF with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Joining James in the production column is junior guard Caleb Homesley as he averages 11 PPG and 5.2 RPG, and we saw that in their latest outing as he was able to record 14 points and 7 rebounds. Liberty got a solid outing from their bench especially junior forward Myo Baxter-Bell as he was able to record 10 points and 4 rebounds which is slightly above his season average of 5.3 PPG and 2.7 RPG. Liberty has been one of the top defensive teams in the nation as they enter this game as the 6th ranked scoring defense as they hold opponents to an average of 59.6 PPG.

Against The Spread Selection: Liberty Flames
My reason for the pick :
Sure North Alabama has been a pleasant surprise in the Atlantic Sun Conference but they are going against what looks to be the favorite in the conference as Liberty has been a top mid-major program this season. Liberty holds a big advantage on North Alabama as they currently have the 6th ranked scoring defense while North Alabama only has the 324th scoring offense. Scottie James has been great for the Flames this season and while North Alabama has talent in their frontcourt they won’t be able to keep the upperclassman in check. Liberty is a perfect 9-0 at home this season while North Alabama is only 1-12 on the road. Liberty should have no problem pulling away in this game for a big-time win.
